TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

We have a first class programme on offer at headquarters tonight with the running of the 2018 Coffex SA Oaks (race 6) and the 2018 BGC Industrial Cleaning Supplies SA Derby (race 8) both events carry a $25,000 to the winner cheque. We also have a very smart 600m event early in the night backed up by a 731m in race 9. It makes for a very interesting night on the punt. Don’t forget all races are Trifecta and First Four events and I’m sure we should get some good value throughout the evening.

Race 1 - Hot Marlow missed the kick here last start from box 1 but is down slightly in grade tonight and is more than capable of winning this. Rachel Zane is racing well and loves this draw and will be very hard to beat. Add Emerley Nolen and Half A Mill for value. Box Up 1.4.7.8.

Race 2 - Flummoxed has been placed here in 3 of her 5 runs and with early luck should be able to break through. Alter Ego can be hit and miss on box rise but looks a big chance from the inside draw. Box Up 1.2.7.8.

Race 3 - The Lauren Harris trained On The Bonnet wasn’t disgraced at his first start here in SA when 4th behind Smart Knocka in quick time, he has good box manners and should lead and win. Phil De Thunder and Billy Fix It can fill the placings. Box Up 1.4.6.8.

Race 4 - This is the 600m of the night and there appears to be several chances, I will stick with Stack The Aces who I tipped over the sprint last week, he ran on well to finish 3rd behind Windmill Haze last start and has a good record over this trip. Croydon Boys is racing very well and will be running on along with Max Jake who has been racing over the 731m of late. Box Up 1.2.6.8.

Race 5 - Fabwik found a heap of trouble here last start when unplaced behind Nations, she had won her previous 6 starts all in quick times and can return to the winner’s circle in this. Abuzz is very quick early and could nearly pinch this with luck and is a must for the First Four along with Mepunga Gal who will be doing her best work late. Box Up 1.2.5.8

Race 6 - This is the Final of the 2018 SA Oaks, Often Imitated was all class when she scorched the track defeating Ash Star in 29.59 from box 8 last week. The Victorian sprinter has taking a liking to Angle Park and she can only keep on improving. My American Girl showed a heap of early pace when winning from box 7 defeating Agent Thirteen in 29.74, she has now won 9 of her 18 career starts along with 7 placings and will be right in the finish. Ash Star is very strong and will be hard to beat if she is close enough early. Add Oakvale Magic for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.3.8.

Race 7 - My value runner for the night is Tyla Grace who has drawn box 1 here, she had no luck here last start when unplaced from box 8 but gets a chance to kick up early and run a cheeky race. Mr. Arjay is a veteran of 128 starts and is a must for Trifecta punters. Box Up 1.3.5.8

Race 8 - This is the 2018 BGC SA Derby Final and as mentioned earlier a more than handy $25,000 to the winner is up for grabs. Nervous An Weird showed plenty of class when winning here in 29.59 from box 4, he went straight to the front and never looked like getting beat, he definitely will prove very hard to beat. Smart Knocka began smartly from his draw of 2 and trounced his rivals by over 5 lengths in 29.64, he too has to be put in our First Four. Spring Bridge looks the best chance for the locals to have a win and will be strong at the end. Box Up 1.2.5.8.

Race 9 - The Distance event of the night and the Gavin Harris kennel can nearly run the Quinella again with his 2 runners in Springvale Cooke and Springvale Choix, both love this trip and are well drawn. The Rasmussen pair in Pirates Curse and Jeebus Bird are the value runners for our First Four. Box Up 2.3.7.8.

Race 10 - Victorian chaser Weblec Nic can get the chocolates in this event, she ran a handy 3rd in the Semis of the Oaks here last week after missing the kick, she will find this a lot easier and can go close. Queen Ophelia is a pacey type and should be in this for a long way, add Roxy’s Daisy and Times Right for the minors. Box Up 2.6.7.8.

Race 11 - A tricky event to go home on and the main chances look to be Love Made Me and Jays Ace both are more than capable on their night but haven’t had a huge amount of luck in recent runs. Romans Legend can add some big value into the Trifecta. Box Up 1.2.3.6.

2018 COFFEX COFFEE SA OAKS FINAL TONIGHT

There were three heats of the SA Oaks with three fantastic races last week. The first heat was won in good fashion by My American Girl for Victorian trainer Ashlee Terry which lead throughout running a quick 29.74 (splits 4.38/16.77). She defeated Agent Thirteen and Oakvale Magic which raced 2nd and 3rd for the event.

The second Oaks heat was won impressively by Often Imitated for Brad Greenough which speared across from box 8 to lead easily.  She was never headed and recorded a brilliant 29.59 for the 515m journey with splits of 4.33/16.66. She defeated Ash Star which was strong in running second and making ground on the leader with Reiko Rocketta holding down third for most of the race.

The final heat was taken out by Shima Breeze for leading local trainer Tony Rasmussen in a handy 30.12 (4.44/17.16). She had to come from behind in a solid performance to defeat Alicante Bouchet grabbing her in the shadows of the post. Weblec Nic ran home hard from the tail into third spot after finding trouble early.

The box draw tonight suggests it will be a match race between the bookends of impressive heat winners Often Imitated and My American Girl however the race is full of quality and an upset could easily occur.

The $35,000 Group Three Final is race 6 on the program and is listed to jump at 8.25pm (SA time).

2018 BGC INDUSTRIAL CLEANING SUPPLIES SA DERBY FINAL TONIGHT

There were also three superb SA Derby heats last week where some of the best young chasers took centre stage and Angle Park and didn’t let anyone down.

The first heat set the scene for a fantastic series when Nervous An Weird for Ashlee Terry sizzled around the Angle Park loam in a flying 29.59 in leading throughout. He ran splits of 4.43/16.71 in defeating Spring Bridge which never gave up the chase and Fab Reiko which ran home hard from midfield.

The second heat saw Grey Ghost for Jeff Britton continue on his winning way after he was able to chase down early leader Victa Caleb turning for home. He ran a super 29.64 with splits of 4.52/16.90 in defeating Aston Kimetto who was just as impressive coming from of the speed and charging into second while Victa Caleb held on well for third.

The final heat saw South East trained Smart Knocka for Tracie Price upset his more fancied rivals after he was able to lead most of the way for a brilliant victory. He ran a slick 29.64 with splits of 4.38/16.66 in defeating Victa Ashley and Crackerjack Skip.

The box draw has evened up this contest tonight with a host of winning chances and will surely be a race not to be missed next week.

The $35,000 Group Three Final is race 8 on the program and is listed to jump at 9.10pm (SA time).

The Final field in Box Draw order is:
1.  Smart Knocka  Tracie Price (SA)

STATE OF ORIGIN MATCH RACE SERIES – NOMINATIONS CLOSE TOMORROW

GRSA has introduced an exciting new feature “State of Origin” Match Race series in a lead up to the Group 1 Adelaide Cup where 4 greyhounds from SA will take on 4 greyhounds from Victoria in one on one racing.

CONDITIONS OF THE SERIES:
The State of Origin Match Race series between South Australia and Victoria will be held on Thursday, 27th September this year, the week before the Adelaide Cup heats.
Eligibility as to who represents South Australia or Victoria would be based around the Nationals conditions. Greyhounds would need to be trained in either State 76 days out of the last 150 prior to the close of nominations.
The best four greyhounds nominated from SA and Victoria will be selected by the GRSA grader. The Grader will use whatever information he has available to select those greyhounds. The Graders decision will be final. Those greyhounds not selected from Interstate will be given the opportunity to solo trial or race in another event on the night. Reserves will be declared with one from SA and one from Victoria depending on nominations to replace the States representative if scratched. For example the SA reserve will only replace an SA scratching.

The Grader will rate the four greyhounds from each State in order from 1 to 4 with 1 being the highest rated greyhound. The head to head matches will be decided by the two 1 rated greyhounds competing against each other and then it will be 2 v 2, 3 v 3 and 4 v 4. Prizemoney for each individual match will also reflect 1 to 4 with the 1 rated greyhounds receiving the most amount of money. However the overall winner will still be determined based around the times the greyhounds run so all greyhounds have that opportunity.

PRIZEMONEY:
Winners of match races –
1 v 1 – Winner $3,750
2 v 2 –  Winner $3,500
3 v 3 –  Winner $3,250
4 v 4 –  Winner $3,000

Overall State of Origin winner (based on overall times) $5,000, second $2,500, third $1,000

ON THE NIGHT:
The State of Origin Match Races will be Race 4 on the program with the first match to be run at 7.22pm (SA time) with each Match 9 minutes apart.
Race 4  -    Match 1 – 7.22pm (Sky 1 & Sky 2)
• Match 2 – 7.31pm (Sky 2)
• Match 3 – 7.40pm (Sky & Sky 2)
• Match 4 – 7.49pm (Sky 2)

VISION:
Greyhound Racing SA has exciting new vision of inside the boxes to be used for the Match Race Series which will give viewers a “greyhound eyes” view as the boxes fly open.

Nominations: State Of Origin Match Race Series closes tomorrow (Friday 21st September) with GRSA at 9.00am.
