Angle Park Preview - Thursday 1st March 2018

The highlight on tonight’s programme has to be On Fire stepping out again over the 731m; he won by over 5L on his debut and looked a natural stayer. The Launching Pad Final is race 5 and is a first-class affair with a heap of chances.
Race 1 - We kick off with a wide-open affair but we will go with Hesa Marlow in box 4, he can be hit and miss on box rise but is more than capable on his night. Mepunga Georgia looks the improver from her rails draw. Box Up 2.3.4.6.
Race 2 - This is a maiden and I like one in this at good each way odds in Dakota Cam, he tends to find trouble in his races and only needs an ounce of luck early to be right in the finish. Cairnlea Buster is making her debut and must be kept safe. Box Up 1.2.5.7.
Race 3 - The Murray kennel looks to have a strong chance with the well-drawn Flying Ellen, she found a heap of trouble last start, so we can forget that run and expect a big improvement. Emerley Nolen will be doing his best work. Box Up 1.3.4.8.
Race 4 - This is the distance affair and On Fire will start the punters elect on his latest form, he made short work of a similar field here last week and should prove the goods once again. Litter mate Purpose Driven is yet to miss a cheque in her 10 starts over this trip so she is a must for the trifecta. Box Up 1.2.4.8.
Race 5 - The Final of the 2018 Launching Pad and a very strong one at that, the main chances have all drawn wide and they appear to be Panhandle Slim, Cairnlea Jet and Fabwik all were last start winners with Fabwik taking the time honours. Tal Lee can add value for our First Four. Box Up 1.6.7.8.
Race 6 - The Rasmussen kennel looks to have a strong hand in this race with their 2 runners in Bean Monelli and Born Billy both look well drawn and should be right in the finish. Add Zellman and Bar Room Brawler for our First Four. Box Up 1.3.4.7.
Race 7 - Larrikin Locky can make it a race to race double for the Rasmussen kennel, he wasn’t disgraced when a strong 2nd here last week behind Tag And Release in 29.89, from box 1 tonight he should lead and win. Rhynstone Teddy is well drawn and appears the main danger. Box Up 1.2.7.8.
Race 8 - Aston Kody didn’t let us down here last week when a strong winner in 30.01 from box 2, he should come out running and prove very hard to beat once again. Pyredos Monelli is only a moderate beginner but saves his best work for the last 100m so he is a must for our Trifecta. Box Up 2.3.5.6.
Race 9 - This looks a tricky race but we should go with the last start winner Mazette from the Lauren Harris kennel. Gunnadoo Trooper is a lot better than his last start suggests and is well drawn out wide. Add the inform Blastoise who hasn’t missed a place in his last 5 starts at Gawler. Box Up 1.3.6.7.
Race 10 - The Robyn Mackellar trained Victa Louise should continue on her wining way in the final event, she has won 9 from 12 including her last 7, she loves the Angle Park loam and looks far too good again. Spring Shirl along with Jolene Marlow for the minors. 5 from 1.4.7 boxed.

LAUNCHING PAD SA SERIES FINAL TONIGHT
After three Heats of the 2018 Launching Pad SA Series were run last Wednesday at Angle Park we have an outstanding final tonight.

The winner of tonight’s Final will take their spot in the Launching Pad Heats in two weeks’ time at Sandown, with Semi-Finals on Thursday, 22nd March and the $150,000 to the winner Final run on Thursday, 29th March. If the winner of the SA Final for whatever reason cannot take their spot then the next qualified greyhound will be given that spot. The Sandown series is for greyhounds that have won between 1 and 6 races and have not had more than 30 starts at close of nominations. GRSA has been advised that there are still tickets left for the Sandown Launching Pad series so even if a greyhound doesn’t win the Final tonight connections can still purchase a ticket through the Sandown GRC (cost $2,000).
SA FLAVOUR TAKING ON HORSHAM CUP HEATS TOMORROW
Team Rasmussen will again be packing their bags and crossing the border to take on some of the best chasers in the land tomorrow at Horsham in the heats of the Group 2 feature.
In the first heat of the Cup (Race 4 @ 3.54pm SA time) impressive Meadows winner from a few starts ago Honcho Monelli has drawn reasonably well in box 3 and is super strong however the speedy Jimmy Newbob has drawn box 1 and looks the leader. Nangar Bear is in race 5 (second heat of the cup at 4.13pm SA time) and has drawn perfectly in box 1 but will need to be at his best with star chaser Bewildering out in box 7. In the third heat of the cup (race 6 @ 4.39pm SA time) Lachlan Monelli has drawn the carpark out in box 8 and has the job ahead with flying machine Out Of Range drawing box 1. In the fifth and final heat of the cup (race 8 @ 5.16pm SA time) Hukanui has finally drawn a box 1 which will bring a smile to his connections. One of our best chasers Hukanui loves an inside box and whilst superstar chaser Aston Dee Bee has drawn box 3 he is big chance of qualifying for the Group 2 final next week. Barton Bale has also gone across and is engaged in race 9 over 410m drawing box 8.
Shayne Kerr has also slipped across the border with last start Angle Park winner Mighty Barcia and is engaged in the second heat of the Cup. He has drawn box 8 in a tough heat so he will need to begin brilliantly from the outside box to qualify.

For those interesting in Group racing there is no better night than Saturday night at the Meadows this weekend with the running of the Group 1 Australian Cup featuring the likes of Slick, Adelaide Cup winner Raw Ability, Hecton Bale and Hasten Slowly. Also on the program is the Group 1 Superstayers where $1million dollar stayer Fanta Bale will look to add to her fantastic record.

BREEDERS 2018 PRELUDE (1) HEATS
Heats of Prelude (1) for Breeders 2018 will be run on Wednesday, 7th March at Angle Park. The Series is for all greyhounds eligible for Breeders 2018. The Final will be run on Thursday, 15th March. Prizemoney will be determined after nominations close.

MOUNT GAMBIER CUP CARNIVAL KICKS OF NEXT FRIDAY
The Mount Gambier Cup carnival will be run over two weeks and three meetings this year, highlighted by the Mount Gambier Cup Final on Sunday, March 18.
The Cup has been elevated to “Listed” status and will carry $22,000 in total prizemoney with $15,000 to the winner.
On Friday, 9th March the Club will run Heats of The Produce Store Feature Maiden over 512m, Heats of a Grade 5 over 600m and Heats of the Formula 400 Open over 400m. On Sunday, 11th March the Club will conduct the Mount Gambier Cup Heats worth $1,500 each with 8 terrific Heats anticipated. The Club will be running up to 12 races on each day of the carnival.
The final day of the carnival will not only feature the $22,000 Mount Gambier Cup Final it will also feature all the other Finals on a superb card of racing in the South East of the State.

ANGLE PARK TUESDAY TRIALS TO START AT 6PM NEXT WEEK
From the most recent Industry Consultative Group meeting it was determined to start the Angle Park Tuesday night trials from 6pm for a 3 month trial period, this will commence with the first trial session on Tuesday, 6th March.
It was believed this would assist with the lateness of bookings and would also provide more flexibility for participants.
Trainers will be able to book as normal online and by phone. GRSA however will support Satisfactory trials, Qualifying trials, Unproven & Proven trials and marking off of greyhounds with a block of 25 minutes around the same time as normal. Trials will start at 6.00pm with the first two blocks until 6.50pm allowing for 20 greyhound trials after this staff will then conduct Satisfactory Trials, Qualifying Trials and mark off greyhounds from 6.50pm to 7.15pm. This also provides an opportunity for GRSA to move the Unproven and Proven greyhound trials earlier in the night (which always used to be the case) where trainers can book into these either online or by phone. Then normal bookings will again commence from 7.15pm.
This will be for a 3 month trial period.

In response to the recent greyhound nominations on Thursday nights GRSA has decided to add Maiden events to Thursday nights.
The March All Tracks calendar has been updated with details below. GRSA will continue to monitor greyhound nominations and make changes as required.

CLAIMING RACES TO BE TRIALLED IN MARCH
After the last Grading Review Panel meeting late last year the panel determined that claiming races would be trialled to see what sort of response this would have from the Industry.
Claiming races are a regular thing in harness racing and was last programmed in greyhound racing a few years ago in NSW. There are specific rules around claiming events but basically greyhounds are graded into an event with a claiming price (ie $2,500). Prior to the event new owners can buy the greyhound before it starts. Any prizemoney won will be retained by the old owners and then the new owners take the greyhound after the race.
These races provide an opportunity to sell and buy greyhounds that are currently competing.
It would be the intention to run a 388m (14th March) and 515m (26th March) claiming event in March. Full terms and conditions will be available on the GRSA website shortly.
GREYHOUND AUSTRALASIA RACING RULES
GRSA recently advised a number of changes to the Greyhound Australasia Rules of Racing would be coming into effect.
GRSA advises the intended implementation date for the new rule amendments will be pushed back at until at least 1 April 2018. Further updates will be provided in due course. In an effort to provide comfort around the changes, a document containing relevant information can be on the GRSA website.

STEWARDS NOTICE – Change to interpretation of first offence for failing to pursue and marring
GRSA Stewards draw all participants attention to sub-section (2) of both GAR 69 and 69A, in relation to failing to pursue and marring which reads:
The period of suspension imposed to sub-rule (1) shall be-
a. In the case of a first offence, at the track where the offence occurred, 28 days and until the completion of a satisfactory trial.
Stewards note the purpose of the Rule was to encourage the trainer to allow the greyhound to have a period of time away from the track where the offence occurred and for an opportunity of work to be undertaken in relation to the greyhound’s racing manners.
It has been common practice historically in SA to allow a greyhound with this offence to trial at the same track and be cleared prior to the 28 days.
Effective immediately, GRSA Stewards will interpret the above Rule as - a greyhound which has had a 28 day suspension placed on them for a first offence for failing to pursue or marring, will not be allowed to undertake a satisfactory trial at the track where the offence occurred, until that period of suspension has expired. Greyhounds will be permitted to undertake a satisfactory trial at another track if they wish to continue to race or wait out the 28 days to requalify at the track where the offence occurred.
Any greyhound with a current 28 day suspension for a first offence for failing to pursue or marring will be obliged to requalify under the new conditions.
This change to the previous management of this Rule will bring GRSA into line with the other greyhound jurisdictions. Please contact Chief Steward Des Jonas for any clarification of the above Rule.
GRSA HOT WEATHER POLICY UPDATE
GRSA advises that an updated version of the Hot Weather Policy came into effect last week.
The main changes that participants need to be aware off are:
• All weather forecasts will be sourced from BoM (this used to be Weatherzone)
• The kennel house will be open half an hour earlier for kennelling if the forecast temperature at the corresponding regional centre is 32°C or above

BREEDER SUPPORT CHANGES
A number of Breeder Support Changes have come into effect from January 1.
The first phase of that framework will commence with the introduction of the following support strategies:
• 100% increase to the breeder component of the SA Bred Scheme from July 1, 2019 (which will impact more recent litters and all future breeding activity)
• The introduction of a subsidy of $30 per week for any retired greyhound on the waiting list to go into GAP that is being kept on a Trainer’s or Owner’s approved premises from January 1, 2018 commencing from the start of the 7th week on the list post-retirement. Existing arrangements around subsidised boarding will remain unchanged. New placement forms will be available.
• An increase to the average Breeders’ Support Payment by 40% through the introduction of a fixed payment of $100 per pup for litters whelped after January 1, 2018. New claim forms will be sent out with new services lodged from 1st January 2018.
• The elimination of fees for natural notice of service, FSI notice of service rebated by GRSA, litter registration and naming from January 1, 2018.
• An increase to the subsidy for DNA testing of breeding females to cover the full cost of (approximately) $180 from January 1, 2018. Applications to Greyhounds Australasia for DNA testing from 1st January 2018.
• A cap on the cost of sire registration of $500 with the remainder being reimbursed by way of subsidy from January 1, 2018. Applications to Greyhounds Australasia for stud dog registration from 1st January 2018
• Expansion of the Superbonus scheme in line with consultation with the ICG from January 1, 2018. Specific details to be released shortly.
SA BRED MAIDEN PAYMENT - $1,000 IF WHELPED IN 2016
The SA bred maiden payment rewards participants that get a greyhound to the track to win a race. GRSA has committed to dramatically increase this payment from $175 to $1,000 ($500 breeder/$500 owner) on 1st July, 2017. This will result in all greyhounds that are whelped in 2016 being eligible for this support.
SYNDICATION INTEREST FROM TRAINERS
Greyhound Racing SA is interested in gaining feedback from trainers who would be interested in having their details made available to any prospective syndicate groups.
GRSA receives a number of queries from owners about getting involved with their friends, however, it is quite hard for them to find a trainer. Those trainers who are comfortable with this please respond to Shaun Mathieson via email [email protected] or phone (08) 8243 7100. These details would only be made available to syndicate groups.
TRIAL DATES FOR STRATHALBYN
All bookings for normal trials will be taken by the Club for Wednesday nights. You can book trials via text MSG / or call Yvonne King at the Club on 0407 334 349 between 9am and 11am on the day of the trials. All qualifying trials will need to be booked through GRSA as per normal by 12.30pm on the day of the Qualy trials. GRSA thanks the support of Yvonne and the Strathalbyn GRC in regard to these changes.

ANGLE PARK QUALIFYING TRIALS
Angle Park Qualifying Trials are weekly on Tuesday night, for the corresponding Monday APM meeting and the Wednesday APD meeting.
Trainers must be specific on their nominations about which day they are trialling for and what distance. (ie Wed 388m, Mon 515, Mon 600m etc)
Tuesday Angle Park Qualifying dates are:
March 6th (for APM Monday meeting on 12th March – for APD Wednesday meeting on 14th March)
March 13th (for APM Monday meeting on 19th March – for APD Wednesday meeting on 21st March)
