Angle Park Preview - Thursday 1st August 2019
by The Shadow
The warmer weather is about to arrive and so is the racing here at headquarters tonight with 2 heats of the 2019 Crocmedia State Sprint Titles races 4 and 5 on the programme. We also have a strong 600m on the card along with a 731m, its great to see that we have 8 runners in our Quadi as it will add the value. As always, all races are Trifecta and First Four events but I need to bounce back after a very ordinary week here last Thursday.
Race 1 - Exceptionable should start the punters elect on his recent form, he loves an inside draw and will be right in the mix. I like American Man out in box 8, he won his Maiden in quick time then found a heap of trouble when he stumbled out of the lids here last week but still charged home, he looks to be a very handy youngster. Add Classy Blaze who loves to run a place. Box Up 1.4.7.8
Race 2 - This is the Maiden event of the night and we should go with Ardmona Miss in the Colin Swain kennel, she has been placed in 5 of her 7 starts and should be at each way odds. Subtle Girl has pace and is knocking on the door with 2 placings from just 3 starts. Box Up 1.2.5.8
Race 3 - Fly For Fun returned to form with a slick win here from box 5 here last week in 29.82, he should lead the inside brigade and prove very hard to beat. Kennel mate Missy Crane has been in the money at her last 5 starts and is drawn to run a cheeky race again. Weblec Queen and Barmah McLaren can add the value for the First Four. Box Up 1.4.5.8
Race 4 - The 1st of the Sprint Heats and Fantastic Yankee has a VERY big motor when on song, the Chegia trained chaser has a personal best of 29.47 at this venue and is boxed for a bold showing. Ebby Lamar has been mixing distances of late and has 2 wins beside his name in recent starts, he is hard to leave out of our First Four. Diamond Heart and No Passengers can figure in the mix. Box Up 1.2.4.5.
Race 5 - This is the 2nd of the Heats and Come Home will be running on as will Canya Chase who is very smart and should start the punters elect. Game Face can run a cheeky race and add value. Box Up 1.2.3.4
Race 6 - Hammy Time has only had the 3 starts since arriving from WA, he won on debut in 30.06 from this draw then ventured to Gawler for a placing, he can lead here and can go very close again. Spring Taylor can be hit and miss on box rise but she will be powering home over the last 200m and is boxed to give this a big shake. Box Up 1.2.5.6
Race 7 - Fantastic Bronx led throughout for a very smart win here last start for a 6 Length win in 30.11, I think he can go quicker and looks very hard to beat again. Black Antico LOVES this draw, he is the value runner for our Trifecta, add Blastoise and the speedy Victa Suzie. Box Up 1.2.3.7
Race 8 - This is the Distance affair of the night and the main chances look to be Saldana and Dyna Quota, both have won here in handy times in the past. Ethics was checked out of it early at her latest run and flew late to run an eye catching 3rd she is a must for the Trifecta. Box Up 3.4.5.6
Race 9 - This is a wide open affair and I like one in this at handy odds in Chill Winston, he has been freshened since his last start 4th and was racing well prior, he is more than capable with an ounce of luck early. Allinga Mal has been in form with wins at Murray Bridge and Gawler, he will be hard to toss if he steps. Box up 2.4.5.7
Race 10 - We have a more than handy 600m event here and its hard to go past the well-drawn West On Bamboo, she can be hit and miss on lid rise but should be able to kick up and win. The Trengove kennel have 3 runners in this and they can fill the placings. Box up 1.2.7.8
Race 11 - Oakvale Thrill was a last winner from her draw at Gawler in a handy 31.07, she is very strong and can bounce back tonight. Allinga Jess and Victa Boris both have early pace and are very strong on their night. Box up 1.2.5.8
Race 12 - Road Travelled is in outstanding form of late with 3 quick wins here, he is well drawn again and looks the measuring stick once again. Lektra Brandy has been in superb form at the Mount and can run into the placings from the rails draw. Box Up 1.4.7.8

TRIALLING AT MURRAY BRIDGE AT RACE MEETINGS
For trials at Race meetings when available (less than 12 races) at Murray Bridge when it is a One turn meeting we will only have the One turn trials available in between kennelling and the first race.
Similar for the Straight track it will only be Straight track trials.
G-SIX TO MOVE FORWARD FROM AUGUST
In early May, GRSA embarked upon a trial of six-dog fields under the banner of G-SIX racing.
As the 3 month trial has ended, it can be observed that overall wagering has improved sufficiently to cover the additional stakemoney required by G-SIX by virtue of the fact that it enables additional races and one extra meeting to be scheduled each week. The format also appears to have contributed to greyhounds being able to find more space in the run, as a general observation. The number of individual weekly race starts in South Australia has also risen by about 5% since the start of May.
It’s also clear at this point that whilst G-SIX appears to be uniquely suited to the SA racing model for a variety of reasons – including the spread of weekly nominations, the geographical location of tracks, and the structure of the wagering model under which it operates – we are still very much in a learning phase about the outcomes from this type of racing. It must also be noted that the G-SIX model requires additional racing to be scheduled to make it a viable exercise. In GRSA’s case, the trial of reduced fields coincided with the scheduling of an additional weekly race meeting at Mount Gambier in the Thursday afternoon timeslot.
GRSA has identified some potential for the format to be modified to combine the G-SIX and G-EIGHT (8 dog field) formats at selected meetings with a view to maximising the balance and flow of nominations across the weekly Sky schedule. On that basis, GRSA will apply a hybrid approach to its race meeting programming from 1st August as per the table below. Under the new framework, the more traditional G-EIGHT format will operate across the four legs of the Quadrella (typically the best four races on the card) for selected meetings, with the remainder of the meeting being graded as G-SIX.
Additionally, the heats and finals of all feature events, as advised by the Racing Department, will run under the G-EIGHT (or ‘full field’) format.
