TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

It's final night here at Angle Park with the running of the SA Oaks and SA Derby, both races are worth $25,000 to the winner and have brought together 2 very good line ups. We also have a 600m and 731m on the programme. Don’t forget all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - We kick off with a very open affair and its hard to go past Alpha Aion out in the 7, he was a last start winner from a wide draw over the 600m in good time and looks primed for this. Crash Bandicoot is a smart performer but can be hit and miss on box rise. Box Up 1.5.7.8

Race 2 - Boombox Robbie ran on strongly after finding early trouble at his debut when a very good 3rd, he is well drawn in this and looks the one to beat. Acka Jet has been placed in 2 of his 6 starts and is a must for Trifecta punters. Box Up 1.2.4.8.

Race 3 - The Lauren Harris trained Fly For Fun was very unlucky here last start when he was run of the track into the 1st turn, he is boxed to bounce back tonight but will be short. Mrs. Sharp is a well-travelled chaser who didn’t have a huge amount of luck either and can run into the placings. Box up 1.2.4.8

Race 4 - Fantastic Yankee has been in superb form in recent runs at Murray Bridge over the short, he looks the likely leader and will prove hard to beat again. Zipping Jamie is tardy early but will be doing her best late as will Dyna Alistair. Box up 1.4.5.7

Race 5 - This looks a terrific event for a First Four as its wide open, I like Lose Your Blues out in box 8, she has been in the money 5 of 7 this trip and looks one of the better chances. Ace Allen and Destini Cavalier are chances for our First Four on recent runs but are hit and miss early. Box Up 2.3.5.8

Race 6 - The SA Oaks Final and we will go with the local performer Oakvale Beauty down in box 2, she has a terrific record here with 7 wins and 3 placings from her 11 runs, she has a personal best of 29.69 and is drawn for a bold showing. The Victorian Mepunga Maggie should start the punters elect, she stumbled on box rise here last week and still managed to finish 2nd if she leads she would be very hard to beat. Submission is in outstanding form with wins from her last 5 and is a must for our Trifecta. Box up 2.3.6.8

Race 7 - This is the Distance affair of the night and a tricky one at that, the chances look to be Sir Truculent who has handy 600m form and is drawn to run a cheeky race. Five Thirty who is more than capable if she is close enough early and My Boy Bean who will be running on strongly and is the value runner. Box Up 1.4.6.8

Race 8 - The 2019 Derby Final with $25,000 to the winner and its hard to go past Curt Lee from Victoria in the astute Glen Rounds kennel, he bounced to the lead and carved out a B.O.N flying 29.50 at only his 2nd look at the track with moderate beginners on his inside tonight he should win again. Weblec King is another smart performer and will be right in the finish along with Mepunga Pegasus rounding out our First Four. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 9 - Jack Get Back is in fine form, he has won 4 of his past 5 and has terrific early pace and is drawn for a bold showing. Fantastic Axel has been carving up Murray Bridge of late with 2 wins on the trot and a win here wouldn’t surprise, add Diamond Heart for our Trifecta. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 10 - I like Star Anise here, she has early pace and is well drawn and is more than capable when on the lure. Oakvale Warrior loves his circuit and is well drawn he could make it a big night for the Wilson kennel. Box Up 2.4.5.8

Race 11 - Bailey Rocks was slow out and never a chance after finding early trouble  here last week which is very unusual for her, she is a class act on her night and should go very close. Cawbourne Hunter needs a little room to move early if he steps would take a power of beating. Chaddy Whacker is the value runner for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 12 - Miss Takiri can send us home on a winning note, she has the pace to cross from here and might be able to pinch this. Oakvale Astro is the one who will be running on if he can settle forward will take beating, add Tony’s Spark who has handy form. Box Up 2.5.7.8

This year we have added extra conditions graciously supported by Greyhound Racing Victoria and their metro clubs which give all runners extra incentive to compete. Special Conditions below are

  2. Winner of the SA State of Origin Race (SA or VIC greyhound) gains automatic entry (if they accept) into the Group 2 Shootout at Sandown (14th November).

CONDITIONS OF THE TAB STATE OF ORIGIN SERIES:

The State of Origin Match Race series between South Australia and Victoria will be held on Thursday, 26th September.

Nominations close at 9am on Monday, 23rd September with GRSA.

Eligibility as to who represents South Australia or Victoria is based around the Nationals conditions. Greyhounds would need to be trained in either State 76 days out of the last 150 prior to the date of the race (26th September).  Date required is Friday 12th July 2019.

The best four greyhounds nominated from SA will be selected by the GRSA grader to represent SA. Victoria will already have a qualifier (if nominated) from their highest placed Victorian trained greyhound in their Speedstar series at Sandown on Sunday, 15th September. The other three best greyhounds nominated from Vic will be selected by the GRSA grader.

With the linking of the State Of Origin with the Adelaide Cup if a greyhound has qualified for another series on Adelaide Cup Final night they may be considered ineligible for the State Of Origin. The Grader will use whatever information he has available to select those greyhounds including liaising with GRV for the Victorian selections and ratings. The SA Graders decision will be final. Those greyhounds not selected from Interstate will be given the opportunity to solo trial or race in another event on the night. Reserves will be declared with one from SA and one from Victoria depending on nominations to replace the States representative if scratched. For example the SA reserve will only replace an SA scratching.

The Grader will rate the four greyhounds from each State in order from 1 to 4 with 1 being the highest rated greyhound again with assistance from GRV. The head to head matches will be decided by the two 1 rated greyhounds competing against each other and then it will be 2 v 2, 3 v 3 and 4 v 4. Prizemoney for each individual match will also reflect 1 to 4 with the 1 rated greyhounds receiving the most amount of money. However, the overall winner will still be determined based around the times the greyhounds run so all greyhounds have that opportunity.

PRIZEMONEY:

Winners of match races – 1 v 1 – Winner $4,750, 2 v 2 – Winner $4,500, 3 v 3 – Winner $4,250, 4 v 4 – Winner $4,000. Unplaced $500 for all Matches

Overall State of Origin winner (based on overall times) $7,500, second $2,500, third $1,000.

The winner of the SA State of Origin (SA or VIC greyhound) will be guaranteed a spot (if they accept) into the Group 1 Adelaide Cup final (11th October) 2 weeks later and will be required to by pass the Heats.

ON THE NIGHT:

The TAB State of Origin Match Races will be Race 3 on the program with the first match to be run at 7.22pm (SA time) with each Match 9 minutes apart.

Race 3  -    Match 1 – 7.22pm (Sky 1 & Sky 2)

  • Match 2 – 7.31pm (Sky 2)
  • Match 3 – 7.40pm (Sky & Sky 2)
  • Match 4 – 7.49pm (Sky 2)

VISION:

Greyhound Racing SA will again showcase exciting vision of inside the boxes to be used for the Match Race Series which will give viewers a “greyhound eyes” view as the boxes fly open and continue to look to innovate with their coverage.

MURRAY BRIDGE SUNDAY TO START EARLY ON 29TH SEPTEMBER

With the Murray Bridge Show coming up in the next few weeks Sky Racing has given the Club approval to start their meeting around 3pm on Sunday 29th September.

The start time will coincide with the Show finishing and will hopefully attract a few more patrons oncourse.

Nominations close Tuesday 24th September with GRSA at 9.00am.

GRADING CHANGES FROM GRADING REVIEW PANEL HAVE STARTED

The main change from the GRP was that when a greyhound comes to SA and has won less than 5 races (1-4 wins) then it will be considered a Grade 6 even if it has won Grade 5 races (Metropolitan Grade 5 races (460m – 590m) in their State, however, this will affect Grade 6). There will be no retrospective grading for greyhounds already in SA with a starting date of the 9th September.

MOUNT GAMBIER TIME GRADING TO BE A MIX OF WINS FROM OCTOBER

After a request from the Mt Gambier GRC to change the format of their Time Grading events, GRSA has approved the change for their Thursday meetings from specific grades to a mix of race wins. From their meeting on Thursday, 3rd October and all other Time Graded meetings races will be Maidens, 1-4 wins and 5+ wins which will change from Maiden, Grade 6 and Grade 5.

Races will still be Non Penalty, with normal Time Graded prizemoney.

For Middle Distance (600m) and Distance (732m) racing, the GRSA Grader (using discretion), may choose to construct a field over these distances without regard for the number of wins of the greyhounds nominated, if in the opinion of the Grader the spread of Time Ratings warrants the running of that race.

NO SATISFACTORY TRIALS AT MOUNT GAMBIER WHILE NEW KENNEL HOUSE BEING BUILT

The Mt Gambier GRC have advised GRSA that there will be NO satisfactory trials on race days at Mount Gambier during the kennel house renovation due to the added pressures over the next 6 weeks.  An option may be to conduct a satisfactory trial on Tuesday, however, this would have to be considered on a case by case basis by the clubs availability.

NEW TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP FORM INCLUDES PROOF OF PURCHASE

Participants are advised that as from 1st September, 2019 a new Transfer of Ownership Form is to be completed if wanting to seek grading exemptions.  The new Form has a Proof of Purchase section, this requires purchasers to lodge documentation confirming the purchase of the greyhound or if no documentation is available then it is a requirement for the Statutory Declaration to be completed.  If a Transfer of Ownership Form is lodged without the completion of this section then NO grading exemptions will be applied to the greyhound.  The form is available on our website.
