TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

It’s time to back a few winners and look on the bright side of life, and we can certainly do that tonight here at headquarters, the Rasmussen kennel have a very strong representation throughout the evening and they are the kennel to follow. As always all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - I have tipped Tornado Alley here in recent starts and he bobbed up at 7/1 with a win at Murray Bridge last start, he gets his chance again with moderate beginners on his inside and should be hard to beat. Emerley Zero is well drawn and is amongst the main chances along with Gemtree Dynamo who is hit and miss. Box Up 4.5.7.8

Race 2 - The book ends in this appear the main chances, Emerley Fabbro is in terrific form with 2 wins from his last 5 in quick times. Boss Three Fifty has been missing the kick of late, he is very capable when on song and can’t be left out of calculations. Lucy’s Nimbus and Cawbourne Hunter can fill the placings. Box Up 1.2.5.8

Race 3 - American Man flew late here last week but missed when 2L second in 29.96, he loves the draw and gets his chance tonight. No Knowledge is the danger and he should find this easier than his last start 4th behind Fantastic Reef. Collecting and Canya Queen for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.7.8

Race 4 - This is the 600m event of the night and it’s certainly a wide-open affair, I like Oakvale Magic out in box 8, he handles a wide draw and might be able to cross them early in the run to the 1st turn. Canya Chase won here in quick time last start and should start the punters elect. Aston Chandon is very smart when on song and can’t be overlooked. Box Up 2.4.5.8

Race 5 - Danyo’s Bully found a heap of trouble last start at Murray Bridge, he looks the likely leader and can go very close in this. Fantastic Flame will be running on and is the obvious threat. Add Cripps Dusty at big odds, she has been mixing distances of late and with an ounce of luck is more than capable of storming home over the top of them. Box Up 1.2.3.4

Race 6 - McLaren Illusion won from this draw last start at massive odds in quick time he should be able to kick up again and is certainly amongst the main chances. Chevy Chaser has solid form and has been racing well in similar company. Cawbourne Cooper and Springvale Anna are a chance for the minors. Box Up 1.4.7.8

Race 7 - The Vadim Roz sprinter Soda Crash gets his chance tonight, he has found one better in recent runs in tough company, he gets a chance to lead here and is our top pick. Master Chaos is smart when on the lure as is Viking Vince. Hello I’m Jade can add the value for the First Four. Box Up 1.4.6.8

Race 8 - Irapsag Miss is another who is in the Rasmussen kennel she has handy Gawler form and is a big chance of leading all the way here. Diamond Lee has had 15 tries here for a win, she loves to fill a place and from the draw we must put her in along with Cutie Lee. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 9 - This is a distance affair and the Wally Harkins performer Sir Truculent looks far too smart for them, he has won 3 of his last 5 here and is the top pick. Holy Reign & Miss Takiri can fill the placings. 5 from 7.3.1

Race 10 - We go home on another 731m affair and veteran trainer John Gale has Kiranna Blue firing, she should be able to kick up and lead from the draw and salute. Dashing Mickey will be running on along with Springvale Jorja. Box Up 1.3.5.7

LOCAL NEWS

COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS) UPDATE - GREYHOUND RACING TO CONTINUE IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA WITH RESTRICTED ATTENDANCE

In considering the impact of COVID-19 within the greyhound racing industry, Greyhound Racing SA, in consultation with key industry stakeholders have determined that as of Tuesday 17/3/2020 only essential staff and licenced participants with greyhounds engaged at the race meeting (and their children when alternative arrangements cannot be made) will be permitted entry at race meets until further notice.

This is a direct effort to protect the wellbeing of industry participants, staff and the general public from contracting COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS). Attendance at race meetings and trials will be restricted to that of:

  • Licenced participants with greyhounds engaged at the race meeting (and their children when alternative arrangements cannot be made)
  • Essential staff

To clarify, Chasers Restaruant is closed and not open to the public. During this time there will be no tote (TAB) service and no catering. Licenced trainers and owners are allowed to bring their own food and non-alcoholic drinks.

Greyhound Racing SA appreciates the acceptance of these measures by all participants and fans of greyhound racing in South Australia. GRSA will continue to work with industry to ensure the safety of the industry and general public is upheld.

********For tonight’s meeting at Angle Park only persons with greyhounds engaged will be allowed oncourse. All persons will be required to have their GRSA ID card present to gain entry. Trainers & Attendants will enter through the kennel house as normal and Owners through the foyer area.

BITCHES GRADE 5 TONIGHT WITH FREE SERVICE TO ELITE BLUE SIZE

Thanks to Tony Fenna he has donated a Free Service to Elite Blue Size to the winning connections for the Bitches Grade 5 over the 515m tonight, which is race 8 on the program.

Good luck to all competitors and could the winning connections please contact GRSA Racing Manager Shaun Mathieson in regard to the service.

CAWBOURNE TERRY TO TRIAL TONIGHT FOR THE “EASTAR”

The Tony Rasmussen team will have Cawbourne Terry trialling tonight over the 515m to set a time for the Eastar coming up in April.

Cawbourne Terry has been in good form recently over the middle and longer distances and made last Sundays Listed Murray Bridge Cup final. He also made the final of the Group 1 Adelaide Cup in October last year so no doubt he would be expected to run a smart time. He will trial in between races tonight as determined by the stewards.

SCRATCHING TIMES CHANGED FOR THIS SUNDAYS MURRAY BRIDGE MEETING TO SATURDAY AFTERNOON

Due to Ozchase doing significant updates on Sunday 22nd March affecting the racing system in morning the scratchings for this Murray Bridge evening meeting will be taken and finalised between 3pm and 4pm on Saturday afternoon on the scratching number 8243 7133.

Trainers please ensure that you are aware of this time change.

BREEDERS 2020 PRELUDE (1) HEATS MONDAY NIGHT

Three heats of Prelude (1) for Breeders 2020 will be run on Monday night at Angle Park.

The Series is for all greyhounds eligible for Breeders 2020 and features the likes of Coorong Lucy, Long Gully Barny, Air Marshall and Oakvale Elite. The $4,300 Final will be run on Monday, 30th March.

MOUNT GAMBIER THURSDAY MEETINGS TEMPORARILY CANCELLED

As part of GRSA’s strategic response to the Canine Gastroenteritis Thursday meetings at Mount Gambier will be temporarily cancelled.

Nominations for greyhounds that are currently domiciled outside SA will not be allowed until otherwise notified (no exemption will be given for veterinary certification – ie negative to coronavirus). An exemption will be available to interstate trainers (by application) on the condition that they agree not to trial or race in their own state while this policy remains in place.

Noting the particular impact that this will have in the south-eastern region of SA, Thursday meetings at Mount Gambier will temporarily be cancelled – commencing with the one that was scheduled for today and next Thursday 26th March – in an effort to concentrate nominations towards the Sunday meeting’s which will continue.

GRSA will continue to monitor on a day to day basis however there may be more deletions in April.

MOUNT GAMBIER CUP SERIES MOVED TO LATE MAY/EARLY JUNE 2020

With the recent response to the Canine Gastroenteritis that GRSA released last week affecting participation in the South East, GRSA, after consultation with the Mount Gambier Club and various stakeholders have decided to move the Listed Mount Gambier Cup series to late May/earlier June.

The Cup series was meant to kick off on Sunday 29th March however with these restrictions in place it was considered appropriate to make the move.

The heats will now be conducted on Sunday 31st May with the final on Sunday 7th June 2020. All associated features with the series including the Produce Store Maiden heats and feature events on Cup day will move with the Cup.  GRSA thanks the support for all concerned regarding this change.

MURRAY BRIDGE TRIAL CHANGES IN MARCH

In March due to the speedway being conducted on Sundays at Murray Bridge there will be some date changes.

These dates will be Friday 27th March for Murray Bridge and Sunday night for Gawler on 29th March. With this being the case the trial days will be swapped with Gawler trialling on Friday 27th and Murray Bridge trialling on Thursday 26th March.

GRSA also advise that from March there will no longer be officiating staff available to clear greyhounds for Satisfactory trials and Qualifying Qualy trials on the fortnightly Tuesday nights at Murray Bridge.

GRSA will send an official to Murray Bridge on a monthly basis on a Friday morning trial session, which has both tracks trialling. This presents an opportunity to also include the Straight Track for Qualifying and Satisfactory Trials. The trial session for March will be Friday, 24th April.

GRSA TEXT SERVICE
Participants are reminded if they have not already done so to provide GRSA with your mobile phone number so text messages can get sent updating the most current information in the industry.

ACCELL THERAPY MAT MOVED INTO VET CLINIC

Management has moved the Accell Therapy mat into the Vet Clinic to provide a greater opportunity for it to be used. It is recommended that a greyhound derives benefit with a 15 to 20 minute session and is generally for recovery from racing or injury. Please do not hesitate to ask when next in the Vet Clinic at GRSA.

ICG MEETING – TOMORROW (FRIDAY MARCH 20)

The next Industry Consultative Group meeting will be held at GRSA tomorrow. An Agenda has been sent out to the panel for discussion at the meeting.
