TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

We definitely have a big night of racing here at headquarters tonight with 3 heats of the Anniversary Cup and 2 heats of the SA Distance Championship, there looks to be a couple of good things on the programme so let’s stick with our Trifectas and First Fours.

Race 1 - I like one in this at each way odds in Zipping Indy, she has early pace and is drawn for a bold showing. Bellario and Hurucan are more than capable with a clear run and can run into the placings. Box Up 3.5.7.8.

Race 2 - The two main chances here look to be Allinga Amber and Zipping Kim, both have early speed and should finish right in the mix from their respective draws. Lucy Stardust is the value runner and should be working home well. Box Up 1.2.7.8.

Race 3 - This is the first heat of the Anniversary Cup and its very hard to go past the inform Honcho Monelli from the Rasmussen kennel, he has been in the money 9 times out his last 10 starts at this venue and has a BON 29.42 next to his name so he is our top pick. Add Cairnlea Strider and Hot Marlow for the Trifecta. Box Up 1.2.7.8.

Race 4 - On Fire returns tonight from a short let up and was racing well prior, he is all class when on song he should be very hard to beat in the small field. The Rasmussen pair of Bean Monelli and Nangar Bear are very strong and can’t be overlooked. Box Up 2.4.5.8.

Race 5 - Hukanui made short work of them here last start when winning by over 7 lengths in a BON 29.58 from box 2 after missing the kick, he should be very handy early and will take beating again. Aston Kody will set the early pace and is more than capable when left alone out in front. Add Windmill Haze and Jays Ace for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.5.8.

Race 6 - The Ray Murray kennel has a handy one in Panhandle Slim, he has been runner up at his last 3 here and Gawler but can be hit and miss on box rise. Just Ruby failed to beat a runner home here last start but was in terrific form prior and looks the big improver. Add Jolene Marlow and the Mount Gambier performer Shine On Shannah for our multiples. Box Up 1.3.7.8.

Race 7 - I like the book ends in this, Tullabung Betty from box 1 and Terpillar out in box 8, both have early pace and this looks a very open affair. Matriculate is very smart when on the lure and should be at each way odds. Box Up 1.3.7.8.

Race 8 - This is a wide open affair and the early speed should come from Dream A Little and Hopes Beau, both are very smart when on song and should be able to run the Quinella. Hesa Marlow has claims but has been hit and miss in recent starts on box rise. Agent Kade can add some value if he runs up to his 30.02 win here late last month. Box Up 2.3.7.8.

Race 9 - The 1st of the Distance Championship heats and with 5 runners it should make the race for Purpose Driven and Bekim Lucy’s, both are front running stayers and appear the main 2 chances. Acheron doesn’t win many but can fill a place from his inside draw. Box Up 1.2.4.8.

Race 10 - The 2nd of the SA Distance Championship heats and its very hard to go past Ashom Monelli, he won here in a more than handy 43.09 2 runs back and was just nutted on the line when a nose 2nd behind Bekim Lucy’s here last week, he should lead again and prove very hard to beat. The main danger will be the Gavin Harris trained Springvale Cooke who will be stalking the early leader and if close enough and is capable of causing the upset. Box Up 1.2.6.8

Race 11 - This looks a terrific First Four event to go home on and the main chances look to be the last start winner Dyna Adria in the Lisa Rasmussen kennel, she won her maiden in good fashion winning by over 9 Lengths in 30.09. Santano is a moderate beginner but has drawn the rails so we would expect him to improve. Add Zipping Waldo and  Rhynstone Hawk for the placings. Box Up 1.2.7.8.

Race 8 No 7 Hope’s Beau

GROUP 1 GALAXY AND PERTH CUP THIS SATURDAY NIGHT AT CANNINGTON

There will be SA interest in the big Group races at Cannington this Saturday night with Jeebus Bird owned by Tim Aloisi and Matthew Lehman engaged in the $100,000 to the winner Group 1 Galaxy.

He has drawn box 3 in the final which will be Race 5 on the program and after a terrific second place in his heat he could cause a major boil over. In great news for the local staying ranks it looks like he will be transferred into the Rasmussen team after Saturday night. The Group 1 Perth Cup is Race 7 on the program and with $150,000 to the winner it has drawn together an outstanding line up.

ANGLE PARK AND MOUNT GAMBIER TO RACE ON ANZAC DAY

South Australia will conduct two meetings on Wednesday 25th April (Anzac Day).

We will race at Angle Park with a Time Graded meeting programmed during the day and also at Mt Gambier during the day where they will have plenty of feature races programmed.
*Nominations for both meetings close tomorrow (Friday, 20th April) at 9.00am with GRSA.

MOUNT GAMBIER SHUTDOWN LATE APRIL/EARLY MAY

As advised previously GRSA and the Mt Gambier Club are planning to undertake some significant track works at the Mount Gambier venue next week.

The project will involve raising the cambers around the track to 10% on the turns and 4% on the straights. The proposed works are not a simple case of adding sand to increase the camber, with the positions of the existing starts and track access points all impacted by the increase to the camber.
Works are scheduled to occur from Thursday April 26th and the Club will have a break from racing for two and a half weeks with a return to racing planned for Sunday 13th May.

For this work to be carried out changes to the racing dates are listed below.
Mount Gambier – Wednesday 25th April Day will race in conjunction with the already programmed Angle Park Day meeting
Mount Gambier – Sunday 29th April Day has been deleted
Mount Gambier – Friday 4th May Day has been deleted and replaced by Angle Park Day meeting
Mount Gambier – Sunday 6th May Day has been deleted

CLAIMING RACES BEING CONDUCTED

Specific claiming race conditions have been released for these events, but basically, greyhounds are graded into an event with a claiming price.

Prior to the event, new owners can buy the greyhound before it starts with any prizemoney won being retained by the old owners and then the new owners take the greyhound after the race.
These races provide an opportunity to sell and buy greyhounds that are currently competing.
Please check the most recent All Tracks calendar for the programming of these races will races listed on –
Monday 7th May – 515m
Wednesday 16th – 388m
Wednesday 30th May – 388m
We ran our first Claiming Event yesterday with a 6 greyhound field programmed, whilst no claims were lodged it certainly created interest. Mr. Dagwood won the event and could have been claimed for $500. The race was worth $630 so a new owner could have recouped their outlay quite quickly. Other greyhounds with their claiming price were Laser Illusion ($500), Super Sting ($1,200), Magic Me ($500), Allen Yani ($1,200) and Glitch Gambler ($1,000). GRSA thanks those owners and trainers who nominated their greyhounds for the first claiming event and look forward to more interest in the future.

MAIDENS ADDED TO ANGLE PARK THURSDAY NIGHTS

In response to the recent greyhound nominations on Thursday nights GRSA decided to add Maiden events to Thursday nights.

GRSA will continue to monitor greyhound nominations and make changes as required.

Additional Maidens -
26/4/18 - $2,200 Heats Open Maiden - 515m (3,190 Final 3/5)
3/5/18 - $3,190 Open Maiden Final - 515m (Heats 26/4)
10/5/18 - $2,200 Open Maiden - 515m
17/5/18 - $2,200 Open Maiden - 515m

ONE OFF HEATS CONDUCTED

When graded heats are programmed in the All Tracks calendar GRSA makes every effort to run as many heats as possible, however, on occasion there may only be sufficient nominations to run one heat.

GRSA supports those that nominated by running this as a heat to final, should there be ten greyhounds eligible, the reserves are then considered for the final even if they did not compete in the heat. This policy has been determined by the Grading Review Panel previously, they also determined that if there were less than eight runners then this one off heat should not be programmed. This policy was brought about due to the Grade 5 heats on Wednesday to a Monday night final being knocked about by scratching’s and injuries, where a few years ago when less than eight runners were in a heat it resulted in the final being a three dog race. If a heat is not run, then a normal graded race would then be considered. This has been put into practice for subsequent series’.

ACCELL THERAPY MAT NOW AVAILABLE AT ANGLE PARK

The mat is now available in the foyer area of the Angle Park building. It is recommended that a greyhound derives benefit with a 15 to 20 minute session and is generally for recovery from racing or injury. It will be available during normal office hours to be used (greyhounds racing on that day excluded). Please ask the Racing Admin staff if you wish to use the mat. GRSA is working towards making this available also during trial sessions.

TRIAL FEES AT RACE MEETINGS FROM 1ST APRIL

With GRSA allowing for trials under certain conditions at race meetings, on occasions payment of these trials may have been overlooked.

From the 1st April any trainer trialling a greyhound at the race meeting will be required to pay staff as they would at a normal trial session. This will be consistent with all our racing and trialling meetings.

ANGLE PARK TUESDAY TRIALS NOW STARTING AT 6PM

From the most recent Industry Consultative Group meeting it was determined to start the Angle Park Tuesday night trials from 6pm for a 3 month trial period, this started on Tuesday, 6th March.
It was believed this would assist with the lateness of bookings and would also provide more flexibility for participants.
Trainers can book as normal online and by phone. GRSA however will support Satisfactory trials, Qualifying trials, Unproven & Proven trials and marking off of greyhounds with a block of 25 minutes around the same time as normal. (Trainers cannot nominate into this timeslot)
Therefore, there will be two blocks of trials from 6pm to 6.50pm allowing for 20 greyhounds to trial, after this staff will then conduct the Satisfactory Trials, Qualifying Trials and mark off greyhounds from 6.50pm to 7.15pm. This also provides an opportunity for GRSA to move the Unproven and Proven greyhound trials earlier in the night, which always used to be the case, where trainers can book into these either online or by phone. Then normal bookings will again commence from 7.15pm.

BREEDER SUPPORT CHANGES

A number of Breeder Support Changes have come into effect from January 1.  The first phase of that framework will commence with the introduction of the following support strategies:

• 100% increase to the breeder component of the SA Bred Scheme from July 1, 2019 (which will impact more recent litters and all future breeding activity)
• The introduction of a subsidy of $30 per week for any retired greyhound on the waiting list to go into GAP that is being kept on a Trainer’s or Owner’s approved premises  from January 1, 2018 commencing from the start of the 7th week on the list post-retirement.  Existing arrangements around subsidised boarding will remain unchanged. New placement forms will be available.
• An increase to the average Breeders’ Support Payment by 40% through the introduction of a fixed payment of $100 per pup for litters whelped after January 1, 2018. New claim forms will be sent out with new services lodged from 1st January 2018.
• The elimination of fees for natural notice of service, FSI notice of service rebated by GRSA , litter registration and naming from January 1, 2018
• An increase to the subsidy for DNA testing of breeding females to cover the full cost of (approximately) $180 from January 1, 2018. Applications to Greyhounds Australasia for DNA testing from 1st January 2018.
• A cap on the cost of sire registration of $500 with the remainder being reimbursed by way of subsidy from January 1, 2018. Applications to Greyhounds Australasia for stud dog registration from 1st January 2018
• Expansion of the Superbonus scheme in line with consultation with the ICG from January 1, 2018. Specific details to be released shortly.

SA BRED MAIDEN PAYMENT - $1,000 IF WHELPED IN 2016

The SA bred maiden payment rewards participants that get a greyhound to the track to win a race.

GRSA has committed to dramatically increase this payment from $175 to $1,000 ($500 breeder/$500 owner) on 1st July, 2017. This will result in all greyhounds that are whelped in 2016 being eligible for this support.
