TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

The highlight on tonight’s programme is the running of the 2019 Champion Puppy Final race 8 on the card, the Lauren Harris kennel certainly hold a strong hand with 3 runners and they all have genuine chances. With nearly $8,000 to the winner it certainly is a handy race to win for the youngsters. Don’t forget all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - This is a handy race to kick start the night and I like Victa Norman which is making his Angle Park debut and his recent efforts over the 643m at Gawler has been very good  so he is right in mix in this. Emmy Gray and Cawbourne Hunter for the minors. Box Up 2.4.5.7

Race 2 - This is the Maiden of the night and Oakvale Astro is a lot better than his recent form suggests, he can be hit and miss on box rise but should be running on strongly. Corryong McLaren is very close to a win and is well drawn, add Holy Reign who is the improver. Box Up 2.4.5.8

Race 3 - Classy Blaze led throughout here last week for a strong 30.15 win from this draw, she looks the likely leader again so we will put her on top. Mental Lee has terrific short course form and is stepping up in distance tonight. Dashing Mickey will be rattling home and can run into the placings. Box up 2.5.7.8

Race 4 - There looks to be several chances in this but we will stick with the inform Cairnlea Blue, she has wins here and Gawler all in good times and looks the one to beat. Winsome Dylan is the danger, he has been in the money in 22 of his 28 starts and is drawn for a forward showing. Box Up 2.4.7.8

Race 5 - This is a terrific 600m affair and its certainly looks a toughie, More Rum Bateman is the form runner with 3 wins and 2 placings from his last 5, he can be hit and miss and will be doing his best work late. Whata Key gets his chance from the draw and don’t be surprised if he skips away and holds on to win, add Chill Out Al who is the likely improver. Box Up 1.4.5.8

Race 6 - Better Dream has been very good to us in recent weeks and from the rails draw can lead and win again. Black Antico can add some value to our trifecta as he loves his draw and rarely runs a bad race from the inside. Love Made Me has been in the placings but has had a bit of a dry spell from the winners circle so we will put her in our First Four. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 7 - There is a heap of early speed in this so we will stick with Times Right down in box 1 he was run down late by Waterloo Monelli here last start in good time and from the draw should be able to hold the early lead. Alpha Aion has won his past 2 from wide draws and is a must along with Spring Cuervo for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 8 - The 2019 Final of the Champion Puppy and as mentioned earlier the Harris kennel hold a strong hand with 3 runners. Fly For Fun would be their main chance on his recent runs, he proved too strong here last week when winning in 29.98, he has the pace to lead and win. Romanowski is the value runner as he will be making ground. Missy Crane and Miss Breakout for the Ben Rawlings kennel also have claims and can run into the placings. Box Up 3.4.6.8

Race 9 - The visitor from N.S.W Fantastic Flossy has won 4 from 12 along with 3 placings, she was a last start winner at Nowra over the 630m and looks to have early pace so we will put her amongst our main chances. Lose Your Blues is well drawn and with a recent win at Gawler in good time will be hard to beat from her rails draw. Box up 2.5.7.8

Race 10 - The Rasmussen kennel can win here with Chill Winston down in box 1, he was a strong winner over this trip last start and should go close again. Hello I’m Jade is stepping up from a sprint win here last start and is in the inform Kevin Bewley kennel, add Victa Borris who hasn’t missed a cheque in his last 6 for the Trifecta. Box up 1.2.5.7

Race 11 - We backed Acoustic Lee here last start and she showed pace before being checked out the back, from the wide draw tonight she might be able to skip away and win. Canya Connor is very strong and is drawn to kick up early and will be right in the mix late along with Yoda who loves his draw. Box up 1.2.4.8

Race 12 - Slippers Time hopefully can send us home on a winning note, the Barry Jones sprinter is very quick early and should lead here for a long way. Don Lesta can run into the First Four from his draw along with Highbury Hustle and Hesa Marlow. Box Up 1.2.4.7

2019 CROCMEDIA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA

The GCA National Championships are just around the corner. The National Finals this year will be held at Cannington in Western Australia to be conducted on Saturday, 24th August.
Both the National Sprint and National Distance Finals will carry prizemoney of $75,000 to the winner.
The State series for the Sprinters will be held at Angle Park on Thursday, 1st August for the Heats with the State Final on the 8th August.
For the Stayers there will be a Best 8 only on Thursday, 8th August due to the numbers locally. This will be the same for other States. GRSA has programmed a lead up race to assist those looking for a run prior to the State Final.
In an effort to support this series ALL States will be conducting their Finals on the same night to be run within a 2 hour period. It makes for a great promotional concept.
