TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

What a huge night of racing we have at Headquarters, we have a massive 12 event programme with two terrific highlights. The 2019 Eastar Match Race series over the 515m which is Race 4 and the Easter Cup final over the 600m which is race 8 on the card. As always all races are Trifecta and First Four events and in recent weeks we have had some handy collects.

Race 1 -  I like one in this at handy odds to kick start the night in Flyrite,  she has early speed and might be able to pinch this with a bit of luck. Gemtrea Dynamo will be running on strongly and is a must for our First Four along with Larrikin Locky and Matriculate. Box up 2.3.7.8.

Race 2 - The Maiden event of the night and I will stick with Miss Breakout who looks cherry ripe to break through in this, she has moderate beginners around her so we will put her on top. Invictus Nina has handy form and can run into the placings. Box Up 1.2.4.8.

Race 3 - This is the Distance affair of the night and with only the 5 runners it makes for an interesting affair. Pirates Curse has been in terrific form down at the Mount and has won here in quick times in the past the small field brings him right into this. Cairnlea Jet looks the likely leader and if on song will prove the hardest to beat. Box Up 1.2.4.6.

Race 4 - The Eastar Match Race series and with $5,000 to the winner and along with great money for each Match, its well worth winning. Cawbourne Swade is the class runner and is drawn perfectly to beat his kennel mate Honcho Monelli, he ran a very good 2nd at Sandown last start over the sprint and won his previous 4 here all in quick times. Black Antico is also well drawn against Cairnlea Ebony and should get the money. Come On Enzo should win his Match along with Jack Get Back. For the overall based on times Box Up 1.5.7.8.

Race 5 - This is a wide open affair so we will go with early pace and that should come from the Lisa Rasmussen trained Nirimba Pirate out in box 8, he should be able to lead and win from the wide draw. Mepunga Zeus is making his SA Debut and is in the Laurie Cahalan kennel and is sure to be well tried, he has 9 wins and 15 placings from his 52 career starts. Box Up 4.5.6.8.

Race 6 - There is a lot of early pace in this so we must try and pick the leader. Star Anise is well drawn and won here 2 runs back in a slick 29.84, she has won 4 of 11 and can go very close again. Ed The Expert can add some value to our First Four as he loves the rails, add Sweet Ella who has been in terrific form and looks the main danger. Box Up 1.2.4.8.

Race 7 - Shima Mart has led throughout in his past couple to score here and at Murray Bridge, he has the draw and should prove too strong. Winsome Money is in outstanding form winning his last 4 here all in quick times, he has a vacant box on his inside and a win wouldn’t surprise. Box Up 1.2.6.7.

Race 8 - This is the Final of the Easter Cup over the 600m, Waterloo Monelli was a massive run here last week to run down the early leader in Unmistakable, they both cleared out from the rest of the field and carved out a 34.99, they both look the main chances again. Nations is a class act on his night and has a personal best here of 34.66 if he produces that effort again he would win, he has a tremendous record over this trip with 4 wins and 4 placings from his 8 runs. Box Up in a terrific race 2.4.5.9.

Race 9 - The Ben Rawlings kennel might have a handy night if all goes well and they certainly have a big chance with Zipping Rocket out in Box 6, he has handy Gawler form and was runner up here last start from this draw. Long Gully Boy has short course form and is making his debut over the 515m here so we will put him in the mix. Firestone Alley is very slow early but will be running on late and he is my roughie of the night if all goes well. Box Up 1.3.5.6.

Race 10 - Private Nangar is stepping up to the 600m and on recent form he should appreciate the extra distance, he is definitely one of the main chances. Motown Kenny is my pick as he was a last start winner over the 643m at Gawler and is a big chance of leading here and if able to will be very hard to beat. Box Up 1.2.4.6.

Race 11 - Lets hope we are well in front as this is a wide open affair with a heap of chances, I like Yoda who wasn’t disgraced at his debut here when 3rd from box 1 he should only be improved by the run and is well drawn again. Ebby Lamar should start the punters elect and has a good turn of early pace, he is in terrific form with 3 wins from his last 5 and is a must for our First Four. Box Up 2.3.5.6.

Race 12 - Lets hope we can go home on a winner and have some cash for the Easter weekend, Phosphenes ran a cheeky race here last week when 2nd behind Max Dream from box 1, she should be able to lead here and prove hard to beat. Victa Nash and Spring Glass can fill the placings. Box Up the inside Four. 1.2.3.4.
