TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

What a huge night of racing we have here tonight at headquarters! We have 12 events, which include 4 terrific heats of the John Gray, the final of the 2019 SA Sprint with $15,000 to the winner on offer.  There are two very good 600m events and a quality 731m race; add to that some handy events to top the night off with and hopefully we can continue with our good form and pick a few winners again. The kennel to follow once again is the Rasmussen team. Don’t forget all races are Trifecta and First Four events - that’s where I see the value tonight.

Race 1 - It’s a good event to kick start the night and I like Jack Get Back out in box 6, he won here 3 runs back from a wide draw in 29.84 by a big margin and should give this a big shake again. Magic Vi is drawn for a bold showing as is Dynamo Jezz. Our value runner is Croydon Boys who will be running on late. Box Up 1.5.6.8

Race 2 - Springvale Misty led them a merry dance here last week when winning in a handy 30.18, from this draw she looks the likely leader again and is our top pick. McLaren Stardust is very strong and will be working home well. Box Up 1.3.7.8

Race 3  - The Ken Trowbridge kennel look to have a handy one with Jazzy Footluce, she has won 2 from his past 3 here in good fashion and gets the nod again for mine. Hesa Marlow is a smart performer who is resuming from a long break, if close to his best will be hard to beat, Box Up 3.4.5.8

Race 4 - Nations is working back to his best form and the small field will only help, he should be handy early and break back into the winner’s circle. Destini Rocket and Zudactyl Monelli have the credentials to run cheeky races and a win wouldn’t surprise. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 5 – Trainer Mike Giniotis tends to always have a few handy performers in his kennels and Victa Ashley is certainly one of them, he has won 6 of 16 along with 6 placings and with his early pace should take beating. Lektra Theory is the interesting runner as he walks early but will be flying home late and can never be overlooked. Add Marco Lee for huge value. Box Up 1.2.3.5

Race 6 - This is the Distance affair of the night and with a little freshen up I like Pirates Curse out in box 6, he is very smart when on song and don’t be surprised if he is handy earlier than normal, if he is he wins. Black Spring and Phil’s Green are the other main chances. Box Up 1.2.6.8

Race 7 - Larrikin Locky is dropping well down in grade in this, his recent efforts have been in open company and he should lead and win despite drawing box 5. Long Gully Gus is a speedy type and is a must for the First Four, add the veteran Mr. Arjay and Charlie Chops for value. Box Up 1.3.5.7

Race 8 - This is the Final of the SA Sprint Championship and as mentioned earlier it has a $15,000 to the winner cheque. The Rasmussen kennel holds a very strong hand with 5 of the 8 runners and their team can go very close to running the First Four.

Shima Breeze made short work of her rivals here last start when winning by over 10 lengths; she is drawn for a bold showing down on the fence. Cawbourne Swade charged home to win in a BON 29.48 here last week and has taken a huge liking to the Angle Park loam since crossing the border. Honcho Monelli and Shimando are chances with early luck as they are more than capable of running quick times. Box Up 1.5.6.8

Race 9 – With race favourite Fabwik scratched tonight it looks like Rachel Zane who returned to the winner’s circle here last week can win again. He’s Okay and Big Case for the minors. In Order 1.4.6.8.

Race 10 - This is a very tricky event as there looks to be several chances. Rocca Jet made her debut here last week when 4th behind Emerley Zero, I would expect her to be much improved by that run. Fabraoak led here last start only to be run down she looks a big chance at each way odds. Emerley Storm and my roughie Striking Jewel can run into the money. Box Up 1.3.4.7

Race 11 - The Troy Murray kennel looks to have 2 strong chances in this with Love Made Me and Spring Spinner with the later being my top selection, he has won 4 of 9 over this trip with 2 placings and should go very close from the draw tonight. Pool Hall has been well-travelled of late and appears a chance of pinching a place for our Trifecta. Box Up 2.3.4.8

Race 12 - Its always good to go home on a winning note and we can do that with Spirit Of Pop who was a last start Gawler winner and looks well placed in this event. Zizou De Kahn and Madam Onyx for the minors. In Order 8.4.6.2

2019 BARGAIN STEEL CENTRE SA SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL TONIGHT

Unfortunately due to Lure issues last week only one of the two heats were completed for the Bargain Streel Centre SA Sprint Championship with Cawbourne Swade for trainer Lisa Rasmussen being very impressive in winning heat 1 in a slick 29.48 for the 515m journey. He defeated Honcho Monelli who ran home powerfully as usual and Alicante Bouchet who led in the early part of the race. With the second heat not conducted GRSA stewards conducted a public ballot in the Angle Park kennel house and acting under Rule 57(2)(b) they determined the remaining four finalists being Shimando, Don Lesta, Shima Breeze and Blastoise.

Tonights $22,000 Listed SA Sprint Championship will be Race 8 tonight due to be run at 9.10pm (SA Time).
