TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

We certainly have a big 12 event card on offer tonight with 3 Heats of the SA Derby and 3 terrific Heats of the Coffex Coffee SA Oaks, the Victorian visitors have come across in big numbers and will add a heap of spice to tonight’s racing. As usual all races are Trifecta and First Four events so it’s certainly worth having a crack at a few throughout the night.

Race 1 - Ben Rawlings has Alpha Aion racing well and he drops back to the sprint tonight after a very smart win over the 600m here last week, he should be right in the mix and we will put him on top. Tyla Grace is our value runner as she can run a cheeky race from her wide draw. Box Up 1.2.6.8.

Race 2 - Aston Ranza made good ground here last week when 2nd in 30.42, she will be improved by the look at the track and will be hard to beat. Jackie Dee and Flummoxed are close to a win and can fill the placings. Box Up 2.3.6.8.

Race 3 - This is the 1st of the Derby Heats and the Thompson kennel has crossed the border with Fab Reiko down in box 1, he has won 8 from 16 and won at Sandown in 29.49 3 runs back, he is drawn for a bold showing. Axel Footluce is in the powerful Jeff Britton kennel and he rarely leaves without getting a winner or 3 here in SA, he has a terrific strike rate of 6 wins from 10 starts and can’t be overlooked. Box Up 1.2.4.8.

Race 4 - This is the 1st of the Oaks Heats and the main chances will come from Oakvale Magic, Queen Werina and My American Girl, all have a good turn of early pace and should acquit themselves well in this. It looks a good race to box a few up as they are all interstaters. Box Up 1.2.4.7

Race 5 - Grey Ghost was very impressive when winning on debut in a very slick BOD 29.69 last week, he charged home to score from box 5 and will be improved with that look at the Angle Park loam. Kennel mate Oakvale Warrior has a terrific strike rate with 4 wins from 5 here and loves a wide draw. Box Up 1.3.7.8.

Race 6 - The Greenough kennel is no stranger to SA and they look to have a handy one with Often Imitated who trialled here in 29.85, she has won 3 from her 8 starts and looks well placed in this. Ash Star is a must for us as she has had 22 starts with 9 wins and 3 placings and is the most experienced in this event. Box Up 1.2.5.8.

Race 7 - Hot Marlow can bounce back from his rails draw tonight, he was in good form prior to last start and should lead and win. Abuzz is in fine form and has been in the money at his last 5 runs; add Croydon Boys and Game Face for the First Four. Box Up 1.4.6.8.

Race 8 - This is my roughie of the night and that is Stack The Aces, why you ask? He has a good turn of early pace, he is back in distance and has been racing well over the 600m, he is strong in the run home. Mepunga Gal charged home to win here last week in 29.90 and is boxed for a bold showing along with Windmill Haze. Box Up 1.3.6.7.

Race 9 - Victorian chaser Blue Shadow trialled here in 29.70 and showed terrific box speed, he has won 5 from 8 and should prove very hard to beat. Victa Ashley has won 3 of his past 5 and should run a cheeky race once again. Box Up 1.4.5.7.

Race 10 - The Rasmussen team rarely leave the track without a winner and they have a very good chance with Shima Breeze down in box 4, he ran a handy 2nd at The Meadows last start and won here prior in good time. Weblec Nic has only had the 3 starts and trialled here in 30.11, add Oakvale Striker who has very smart short course form for the minors. Box Up 1.4.7.8.

Race 11 - This is the distance event of the night and we have a very interesting runner out in box 8 in Pirates Curse, he has done his recent racing in New Zealand and has been transferred to the powerful Rasmussen kennel, we must include him in our Trifecta on his SA debut. Springvale Choix and Springvale Cooke look big chances. Box Up 1.2.7.8.

Race 12 - The inside 2 look the main chances in this in Dyna Quail and Isen Allen, both have reasonable form and should be well suited by their draws. Spring Spinner will be running on late and is worth putting in the First Four. Box Up 1.2.6.8.

STATE OF ORIGIN MATCH RACE SERIES – THURSDAY 27TH SEPTEMBER 2018

GRSA has introduced an exciting new feature “State of Origin” Match Race series in a lead up to the Group 1 Adelaide Cup where 4 greyhounds from SA will take on 4 greyhounds from Victoria in one on one racing.

CONDITIONS OF THE SERIES:
The State of Origin Match Race series between South Australia and Victoria will be held on Thursday, 27th September this year, the week before the Adelaide Cup heats.
Eligibility as to who represents South Australia or Victoria would be based around the Nationals conditions. Greyhounds would need to be trained in either State 76 days out of the last 150 prior to the close of nominations.
GRSA will call for nominations which will close on Friday morning, 21st September at 9am for the State of Origin Match Race series. The best four greyhounds nominated from SA and Victoria will be selected by the GRSA grader. The Grader will use whatever information he has available to select those greyhounds. The Graders decision will be final. Those greyhounds not selected from Interstate will be given the opportunity to solo trial or race in another event on the night. Reserves will be declared with one from SA and one from Victoria depending on nominations to replace the States representative if scratched. For example the SA reserve will only replace an SA scratching.

The Grader will rate the four greyhounds from each State in order from 1 to 4 with 1 being the highest rated greyhound. The head to head matches will be decided by the two 1 rated greyhounds competing against each other and then it will be 2 v 2, 3 v 3 and 4 v 4. Prizemoney for each individual match will also reflect 1 to 4 with the 1 rated greyhounds receiving the most amount of money. However the overall winner will still be determined based around the times the greyhounds run so all greyhounds have that opportunity.

PRIZEMONEY:
Winners of match races –
1 v 1 – Winner $3,750
2 v 2 –  Winner $3,500
3 v 3 –  Winner $3,250
4 v 4 –  Winner $3,000

Overall State of Origin winner (based on overall times) $5,000, second $2,500, third $1,000

ON THE NIGHT:
The State of Origin Match Races will be Race 4 on the program with the first match to be run at 7.22pm (SA time) with each Match 9 minutes apart.
Race 4  -    Match 1 – 7.22pm (Sky 1 & Sky 2)
• Match 2 – 7.31pm (Sky 2)
• Match 3 – 7.40pm (Sky & Sky 2)
• Match 4 – 7.49pm (Sky 2)

VISION:
Greyhound Racing SA has exciting new vision of inside the boxes to be used for the Match Race Series which will give viewers a “greyhound eyes” view as the boxes fly open.
Nominations: State Of Origin Match Race Series closes Friday 21st September with GRSA at 9.00am.
