TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

With a massive 12 event programme on the card here at HQ tonight it is a definite night that we have a go at Trifectas and First Fours as the fields are VERY open, the best are slim pickings so there could be a couple of big upsets throughout the night.

Race 1 - We kick off with a newcomer from the Rasmussen kennel in Dyna Vagrant, he trialled here in a quick 29.72 and with 4 wins and 6 placings from his 19 career starts is a big chance of winning here on his debut. Amity Marlow is a pacey type and is drawn well in this and is a big chance at big odds. Box Up 1.2.5.6.

Race 2 - The Maiden event of the night and we tipped her last week and that was Love Made Me, she ran a handy 3rd and should be improved by the outing but she needs to improve her box manners. Lightcry is the main danger and has been in the money in 4 of her 5 starts at this track. Add another newcomer from over the border in Reiko Rocketta who has joined the Troy Murray kennel as a place chance. Box Up 2.3.5.8.

Race 3 - The Ben Rawlings team has been in good form of late and Agent Thirteen can bounce back from her 8th here late last month, she was in terrific form prior and appears one of the better chances. Shima Breeze won on debut leading throughout in good fashion from this draw and should only be improved by the outing; add in Usain Beast at each way odds. Box up 1.4.6.8.

Race 4 - Wining form is good form and Alicante Bouchet has won 4 of her past 5 all in good fashion, she has moderate beginners on her inside and should be able to cross and lead. Castle Rock can be forgiven for his last start 7th after being knocked over early and is the improver. Box Up 1.3.4.6.

Race 5 - This is the 600m of the night and I like Aston Abbott out in box 7, he was a last start winner at Gawler and with 2 wins here over this trip he should prove very hard to beat again. Shot Thru cant be overlooked and has been in the money in her last 5 runs here and Gawler and Sketchy Gun is our value runner on his last run from a rail draw. Box Up 2.4.5.7.

Race 6 - The Open event of the night and the 2 main chances look to be Spring Bridge and Honcho Monelli, both are in terrific form and should run the Quinella in this. Victor Dora can run a cheeky race from his draw and should be in the mix. Box Up 2.3.4.6.

Race 7 - Well I tipped him last week and that was Nations who has drawn down in box 1 tonight, he was trapped wide throughout in the run and made good late ground to finish 3rd last week, he can bounce back and is a class act when on song, so I will make him my best bet of the night. Hot Marlow and Alpha Aion can fill the placings. Box Up 1.3.5.7.

Race 8 - The Gregory Board kennel has been in fine form of late and they have a big chance with Spring Bloom in this, she was only beaten by 1.75 lengths here last start in a top-class field after missing the kick, she will be the improver. Bella Trix and Mepunga Gal are right in this on their recent efforts. Box Up 1.3.4.6.

Race 9 - Waterloo Kate looks well placed in this from her draw of 1, she will be working home well and should be right in the finish. Spring Eagle is a lot better than his past couple suggest and is the likely improver, add Max Shake who has early pace for the Trifecta. Box Up 1.3.6.8.

Race 10 - There looks to be several chances in this but we will go with the well-drawn Nut Allergy down on the rails, he was a last start winner over the short so he should be able to lead these. Sutton Will has been missing the kick of late and will be doing his work late along with Mepunga Georgia who is knocking on the door and is very close to a win. Box Up 1.3.4.8.

Race 11 - This is a toughie so we will need to go with several in this to snag the Trifecta, the main chances look to be Cain Hoy and Oh Jay Korie, both have been racing well and should finish in the main bunch. Add Game Of Bones who is a speedy type and can lead for a long way. Box Up 3.4.7.8.

Race 12 - Its always good to go home on a winner and we can do that with the Neil Mann trained Pure Ability out in box 7, he appears the likely leader and was a last start winner here in 29.81. Aston Ricardo is a EX Victorian who has only had 8 career starts for 2 wins and a couple of placings and is worth putting in the First Four on his debut. Box Up 1.2.6.7.

2018 CHAMPION PUPPY HEATS TONIGHT

There are two terrific heats of the Champion Puppy series tonight with some of the most talented up and coming greyhounds in the State doing battle.

The likes of Agent Thirteen, Shima Breeze, Data Queen and Lose Your Blues in heat 1 and Castle Rock, Alicante Bouchet, Victa Caleb and Time’s Right in heat 2 suggest it will be an exciting series.
The Champion Puppy is for greyhounds whelped on or after 1st July 2016 where the first 4 from each heat will progress to next weeks $10,710 final.
**The box draw for the final will take place oncourse tonight after the running of race 5**

2018 GAWLER BREEDERS HEATS ON SUNDAY

There are two excellent heats of the 2018 Gawler Breeders series at Gawler on Sunday night along with a fine supporting program.

The first heat will be race 1 and is run at 4.56pm and features More Than Black, Abuzz and Minacious while heat 2 jumps at 5.20pm and see’s the clash between Flying Ellen, Up Time Girl and Aiming.

The Breeders 2018 series is for SA bred greyhounds whelped between January 2016 and June 2016 and paid up for the series.  It will be a tight contest with the first four placegetters progressing to next Sunday $4,500 final at Gawler.

PORT AUGUSTA NEXT MEETING – SATURDAY 21ST JULY

The next meeting at Port Augusta will be on Saturday 21st July featuring the Rex Park Memorial Trophy worth $850.

All races on the program will have added prizemoney so after the terrific success of their Cup meeting last weekend (Windmill Haze for Ken Gill was successful) no doubt there will be a big crowd on hand.
*Nominations close on Tuesday, 17th July with GRSA at 9.00am.*

2018 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN VICTORIA

The GCA National Championships are just around the corner. The National Finals this year will be held at Sandown in Victoria to be conducted on Friday, 24th August.

Both the National Sprint and National Distance Finals will carry prizemoney of $75,000 to the winner.
The State series’ for SA will be held at Angle Park on Thursday, 2nd August for the Heats with the State Finals on the 9th August.
In an effort to support this series ALL states will be conducting their Finals on the same night to be run within a 2 hour period. It makes for a great promotional concept.
• Nominations this year will close at the normal time with GRSA which will be at 9am on Monday, 30th July
A reminder to all trainers of the clause which requires a greyhound to have been domiciled in South Australia for a period of not less than 76 days out of the 150 days immediately prior to the nomination closing date to be eligible to represent SA. If unsure of a greyhound’s status, please contact the GRSA grading staff.

OAKS AND DERBY ELIGIBILITY IN 2018

The Group 3 SA Oaks and SA Derby to be run in September this year will be for greyhounds whelped on or after 1st June 2016 (27 months) which has stayed the same as last year.

GRSA has left the eligibility date at 27 months in support of trainers, breeders and owners of young up and coming greyhounds however it is important that this series is supported by our local participants. If the series is not supported with nominations locally and from Interstate then GRSA will have no option but to alter the age restriction to 30 months to ensure sufficient support for these races in 2019. To support these series’ GRSA has changed the heats of the Oaks to be run on the same night as the Derby with heats on Thursday 13th September and the Group 3 finals on Thursday 20th September.

PRIZEMONEY INCREASES FOR ANGLE PARK (CITY A) THURSDAY FROM JULY 1

As of July 1, Thursday Night Angle Park stakemoney across all grades has increased by 5%, reflecting the key role that the premier weekly meeting plays in attracting the highest quality outcomes from local breeding and interstate acquisitions.

This will also benefit some of our feature events that will increase on Thursday nights.

TRAINERS TO RECEIVE $20 FROM 1ST JULY TO REPLACE $15 UNPLACED

The existing $15 unplaced payment that currently applies to a majority of SA greyhound races will be replaced by a new $20 Trainer Raceday Subsidy (TRS) from 1st July with 100% of that payment being allocated directly to trainers.

For clarity, this payment will be made in addition to the $60 trainer rebate and will be allocated to unplaced greyhounds under circumstances wherein the $15 payment would have previously applied. Unplaced payments of more than $20 will remain the same.

ICG MEETING LATER THIS MONTH

The next Industry Advisory Committee meeting will be held on Friday 27th July with an Agenda to be sent out to the panel in the next few weeks.

PARTICIPANT DRESS CODE

Stewards remind participants to ensure they comply with all requirements of the GRSA Dress Code when attending race meetings when involved in racing.

KURT DONSBERG – ONCOURSE RACE NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHER

Recently Kurt was able to extend his roster to not only do Thursday night meetings at Angle Park but also the Monday night and Wednesday day meetings, however, due to personal commitments he is unable to do Monday nights until later in the year.

Kurt will continue as normal with Thursdays and also Wednesdays based on his availability.

On those days/nights of racing when Kurt is not oncourse GRSA will continue to allow participants to take their own presentation photos and if required, gain access to the presentation area. Please just liaise with the Stewards on the day for access.

ACCELL THERAPY MAT NOW AVAILABLE AT ANGLE PARK

The mat is now available in the foyer area of the Angle Park building. It is recommended that a greyhound derives benefit with a 15 to 20 minute session and is generally for recovery from racing or injury.

It will be available during normal office hours to be used (greyhounds racing on that day excluded). Please ask the Racing Admin staff if you wish to use the mat. GRSA is working towards making this available also during trial sessions.
