TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

Tonight, we have a solid 11 event programme and it looks a terrific night for our Trifectas and First Fours as the fields look very even. The Rasmussen kennel has several strong chances throughout the night so keep your eye out for their runners.

Race 1 - Barton Bale can kick us off on a winning note in this, he has won his past 2 both in quick times, he can be hit and miss on box rise but is very strong. Jimmy McBain and Mr. Arjay to fill the minor placings. Box Up 2.3.7.8.

Race 2 - This is a maiden event and the two form runners are Andrews Gift and Dyna Quire, both have finished in the placings at recent starts and are close to a win. Dyna Adria can only be improved with another look at the track. Box Up 2.4.5.7.

Race 3 - There looks to be a bit of early pace in this so we will go with the inform Hope’s Beau from the Cameron Butcher kennel, he can lead the inside brigade and is very strong. Lonely Cowboy and High Eden Snow are more than capable on their night and are worth putting in the First Four. Box Up 2.3.4.8.

Race 4 - This is a strong 731m and Ashom Monelli proved too strong leading throughout here last start for a slick 43.09 win over kennel mate Zudactyl Monelli, they should nearly run the Quinella again. We can’t leave out Springvale Cooke as she stumbled here last week and couldn’t recover. Box Up all the evens 2.4.6.8.

Race 5 - The two main chances appear to be Cairnlea Jet who was a last start winner here in 29.81 and Abuzz who was 2nd here from this draw beaten by Watsargo, both are in fine form and are well drawn. Add the pacey Darcy Brown who has won 4 of his past 5 for the minor. Box Up 3.4.7.8.

Race 6 - This certainly is a wide open affair as the main chances have drawn awkwardly, the Paul Fagan sprinter Hot Producer has a ton of early speed and is a chance here at each way odds from box 1, she would need to be a long way in front to hold them off. Becky Bale is a lot better than recent form suggests and is worth putting in our First Four. Cairnlea Buster and Tullabung Betty are both are very smart when on song and would prove hard to beat if they can stay out of trouble early. Box Up 1.4.5.6.

Race 7 - The Rasmussen kennel can continue with another winner here with Finn’s Entity out in box 8, he is a tardy beginner but will be rattling home late over the top of them. Bellario handles a wide draw and ran a handy 3rd here last start behind Springvale Hope. Zellman is more than capable but has been finding trouble of late. Box Up 2.5.7.8.

Race 8 - Honcho Monelli started a very short price favourite here last week and flew late to run 3rd after missing the start, he had won his previous 4 starts here in good times and can return to the winner’s circle here. Don’t Kid Me never runs a bad race and looks the likely leader and can’t be left out of calculations. Box Up 1.3.6.8.

Race 9 - This is a terrific betting affair as there looks to be several chances; they are Blanko, Donna Paulsen and Master Chaos. We can’t leave out Gunnadoo Pekaboo who will be running on late from the rails draw. Box Up 1.2.3.5

Race 10 - The Ryan Tugwell trained Wynburn Geri should be the measuring stick in this, she was a last start winner here over this trip in a fast 34.92 from the same draw, she gets back but unleashes a powerful finish. Eli Starlight is another who will be making ground. Box Up 1.2.4.8.

Race 11 – The Tugwell kennel can make it a race to race double with last start winner Danyo’s Cally, she loves the draw and should prove very hard to beat. Spring Addo has early speed but does get the wobbles over the last 50m. Box Up 1.4.5.7.

FABULOUS FINALS AT STRATHALBYN TOMORROW

What a super program Strathalbyn has tomorrow with a bumper 11 event card of racing due to start at 11.48am which includes 3 fabulous finals.

The Commercial Hotel Cannonball Final over the 319m features heats winners I’m Zoolander and Allen Optic along with Diego Bale and Ecclefechan just to name a few. This will be race 5 at 1.04pm with race 6 at 1.27pm another feature race over the 536m which is the Next Lending Cup FFA final. This race is over the 536m and could be considered one of the best races seen at the track since last November’s Strathalbyn Cup Final. Each greyhound looks to have a strong chance however heat winners Hot Marlow and last years Strathalbyn Cup winner Spring Bloom looking very hard to beat on last weeks efforts.

The third feature will be race 8, the Metro Roller Doors Spring Free For All over the 416m due to start as 2.02pm. Whilst there was only 1 heat last with Breemelia Swift proving to strong the box draw has made the final an interesting encounter.

Good luck to the Strathalbyn Greyhound Racing Club on what looks to be a super day of high quality racing.

SA DISTANCE AND SA ANNIVERSARY CUP HEATS – NOMINATIONS CLOSE ON MONDAY

Feature racing continues at Angle Park this month with the running of the heats of the SA Distance Championship over 731m and the Bargain Steel Centre SA Anniversary Cup over 515m on Thursday, 19th April.
Both finals will be run the following week on Thursday, 26th April which are open events worth $14,500 for the Distance with unplaced prizemoney and $13,750 for the Sprint with the winner collecting $10,000.
The honour role for both events are a who’s who of greyhound racing with Bogie Bekim winning the Distance Championship and On Fire taking out the Anniversary Cup last year.
* Nominations close on Monday, 16th April with GRSA at 9.00am.

ONE OFF HEATS CONDUCTED

When graded heats are programmed in the All Tracks calendar GRSA makes every effort to run as many heats as possible, however, on occasion there may only be sufficient nominations to run one heat.
GRSA supports those that nominated by running this as a heat to final, should there be ten greyhounds eligible, the reserves are then considered for the final even if they did not compete in the heat. This policy has been determined by the Grading Review Panel previously, they also determined that if there were less than eight runners then this one off heat should not be programmed. This policy was brought about due to the Grade 5 heats on Wednesday to a Monday night final being knocked about by scratching’s and injuries, where a few years ago when less than eight runners were in a heat it resulted in the final being a three dog race. If a heat is not run, then a normal graded race would then be considered. This has been put into practice for subsequent series’.

GOTBA’S FIRST MEETING OF THE SEASON THIS WEEKEND

GOTBA’s first meeting of the season will be conducted this weekend (Sunday, 15th April).
Their first two meetings set down for the 15th and 29th April will commence with 4-dog events and then will move to 8-dog events. There is also a requirement that they have 30 or more nominations for the meeting to proceed.

ANGLE PARK TRACK HARROW POSTPONED THIS WEEKEND

Due to inclement weather forecast, the harrow to the Angle Park surface scheduled for tomorrow 13th April was postponed.
These works will now take place on Friday 20th April, with confirmation to occur on Tuesday and again subject to a favourable weather forecast.

BREEDERS 2018 PRELUDE (2) HEATS ON MONDAY NIGHT

Prelude (2) heats of Breeders 2018 will be run on Monday night at Angle Park with three heats scheduled.
The likes of Fabwik, Up Time Girl, Nirimba Pirate, Victa Louise, Tal Lee and Abuzz make for an interesting series. The first two from each heat and two fastest thirds will qualify for the following Monday night’s $4,500 final on 23rd April.

MOUNT GAMBIER SHUTDOWN LATE APRIL/EARLY MAY

As advised previously GRSA and the Mt Gambier Club are planning to undertake some significant track works at the Mount Gambier venue in the coming weeks.
The project will involve raising the cambers around the track to 10% on the turns and 4% on the straights. The proposed works are not a simple case of adding sand to increase the camber, with the positions of the existing starts and track access points all impacted by the increase to the camber.
Works are scheduled to occur from Thursday April 26th and the Club will have a break from racing for two and a half weeks with a return to racing planned for Sunday 13th May.

For this work to be carried out changes to the racing dates are listed below.
Mount Gambier – Wednesday 25th April Day will race in conjunction with the already programmed Angle Park Day meeting
Mount Gambier – Sunday 29th April Day has been deleted
Mount Gambier – Friday 4th May Day has been deleted and replaced by Angle Park Day meeting
Mount Gambier – Sunday 6th May Day has been deleted

ACCELL THERAPY MAT NOW AVAILABLE AT ANGLE PARK

GRSA have been organising access for participants to an Accell Therapy mat at Angle Park.
The mat is now available in the foyer area of the building. It is recommended that a greyhound derives benefit with a 15 to 20 minute session and is generally for recovery from racing or injury. It will be available during normal office hours to be used (greyhounds racing on that day excluded). Please ask the Racing Admin staff if you wish to use the mat. GRSA is working towards making this available also during trial sessions.

TRIAL FEES AT RACE MEETINGS FROM 1ST APRIL

With GRSA allowing for trials under certain conditions at race meetings, on occasions payment of these trials may have been overlooked.
From the 1st April any trainer trialling a greyhound at the race meeting will be required to pay staff as they would at a normal trial session. This will be consistent with all our racing and trialling meetings.

CLAIMING RACE CONDITIONS AVAILABLE

Specific claiming race conditions have been released for these events, but basically, greyhounds are graded into an event with a claiming price.
Prior to the event, new owners can buy the greyhound before it starts with any prizemoney won being retained by the old owners and then the new owners take the greyhound after the race.
These races provide an opportunity to sell and buy greyhounds that are currently competing.
Please check the most recent All Tracks calendar for the programming of these races.

ANGLE PARK TUESDAY TRIALS NOW STARTING AT 6PM

From the most recent Industry Consultative Group meeting it was determined to start the Angle Park Tuesday night trials from 6pm for a 3 month trial period, this started on Tuesday, 6th March.
It was believed this would assist with the lateness of bookings and would also provide more flexibility for participants.
Trainers can book as normal online and by phone. GRSA however will support Satisfactory trials, Qualifying trials, Unproven & Proven trials and marking off of greyhounds with a block of 25 minutes around the same time as normal. (Trainers cannot nominate into this timeslot)
Therefore, there will be two blocks of trials from 6pm to 6.50pm allowing for 20 greyhounds to trial, after this staff will then conduct the Satisfactory Trials, Qualifying Trials and mark off greyhounds from 6.50pm to 7.15pm. This also provides an opportunity for GRSA to move the Unproven and Proven greyhound trials earlier in the night, which always used to be the case, where trainers can book into these either online or by phone. Then normal bookings will again commence from 7.15pm.

BREEDER SUPPORT CHANGES

A number of Breeder Support Changes have come into effect from January 1.

The first phase of that framework will commence with the introduction of the following support strategies:

• 100% increase to the breeder component of the SA Bred Scheme from July 1, 2019 (which will impact more recent litters and all future breeding activity)
• The introduction of a subsidy of $30 per week for any retired greyhound on the waiting list to go into GAP that is being kept on a Trainer’s or Owner’s approved premises  from January 1, 2018 commencing from the start of the 7th week on the list post-retirement.  Existing arrangements around subsidised boarding will remain unchanged. New placement forms will be available.
• An increase to the average Breeders’ Support Payment by 40% through the introduction of a fixed payment of $100 per pup for litters whelped after January 1, 2018. New claim forms will be sent out with new services lodged from 1st January 2018.
• The elimination of fees for natural notice of service, FSI notice of service rebated by GRSA , litter registration and naming from January 1, 2018
• An increase to the subsidy for DNA testing of breeding females to cover the full cost of (approximately) $180 from January 1, 2018. Applications to Greyhounds Australasia for DNA testing from 1st January 2018.
• A cap on the cost of sire registration of $500 with the remainder being reimbursed by way of subsidy from January 1, 2018. Applications to Greyhounds Australasia for stud dog registration from 1st January 2018
• Expansion of the Superbonus scheme in line with consultation with the ICG from January 1, 2018. Specific details to be released shortly.

SA BRED MAIDEN PAYMENT - $1,000 IF WHELPED IN 2016

The SA bred maiden payment rewards participants that get a greyhound to the track to win a race.
GRSA has committed to dramatically increase this payment from $175 to $1,000 ($500 breeder/$500 owner) on 1st July, 2017. This will result in all greyhounds that are whelped in 2016 being eligible for this support.
