2019 EASTER CUP HEATS TONIGHT

There are two heats of the 2019 Easter Cup tonight which will be races 6 and 7 on the program.

Whilst only small fields the quality is excellent with the likes of Waterloo Monelli, Max Shake and Unmistakable doing battle in heat 1 and Nations, Ritzy Chicki and Aston Abbott doing battle in heat 2. The first 4 from each heat will progress through to next weeks $7,000 Final on Thursday, 18th April. The Box Draw for the Easter Cup will be conducted oncourse tonight after the running of Race 8. 



“EASTAR” MATCH RACE SERIES NEXT WEEK

Next week the “SA Eastar” Match Race series will be held on Thursday night, 18th April (Easter) at Angle Park. 

This event is for South Australian local greyhounds. Selection for this series is based around winning times at Angle Park for greyhounds that have run over the 515m at any Angle Park meeting since 1st December, 2018 along with those that have trialled to set a time. 

The list has been refined to provide the top 20 eligible greyhounds so far that has won and broken 30 seconds at Angle Park since 1st December 2018 that are eligible are –

The greyhounds listed here are either ineligible, injured or racing interstate and are not available for the series even though they have won in quick times during this period - Red Rock, Sennachie, Fabwik, Alfieri, Waterloo Monelli, Querencia, Azalea Monelli, Alicante Bouchet and Lektra Theory.

The head to head matches will be decided based on the final listing and nominations. Match 1 will be 1 v 4, Match 2 will be 2 v 3, Match 3 will be 5 v 8 and Match 4 will be 6 v 7. There will be no manual selection from the Grader. The top 4 seeded greyhounds will be rewarded with more prizemoney. 
The overall winner of the local Match Race series will be guaranteed a spot in the State of Origin Match race series (SA V Vic) in September so long as it is nominated and eligible to represent SA.

Winners of match races – 
Match 1 – 1 v 4 $4,500, Match 2 – 2 v 3 $4,000, Match 3 – 5 v 8 $3,500, Match 4 – 6 v 7 $3,000
There will be no unplaced money.  Overall SA Eastar winner (based on overall times) - $5,000, second $2,500, third $1,000.

• Nominations close Monday 15th April with GRSA at 9.00am. (Trainers will need to nominate specifically to be considered for the Match Race series)

Tonight is the final chance for greyhounds to improve their position by winning in fast times and secure a spot in the first edition of the Eastar next Thursday night.


 

CAIRNLEA JET TO TRIAL FOR THE EASTAR TONIGHT AFTER RACE 3

The Petar Jovanovic trained Cairnlea Jet will trial after race 3 tonight in preparation for the Eastar Match Race series next Thursday night.

Cairnlea Jet has been racing in Staying events recently running 5th in last weeks SA Distance Championship Final. He is no stranger to match racing as he competed for SA in the State of Origin series last September winning his match in a slick 29.67 and finishing 4th overall. If he can run that time tonight it will put him right in the mix for selection next week.



SA GREYHOUNDS INTERSTATE TONIGHT & SATURDAY

Notable SA Bred and Owned greyhounds Sennachie, Tauwitchere and Red Rock are all engaged tonight at Sandown in the rich Launching Pad Semi Finals.

Red Rock is in Race 5 at 8.07pm SA time drawn box 3, Tauwitchere is in race 6 at 8.25pm drawn box 3 and Sennachie is in race 8 drawn box 4 at 9.10pm with the first 2 progressing to next weeks $150,000 to the winner final. 

On Saturday night Fabwik will compete at Wentworth Park in the semi finals of the Golden Easter Egg after she ran 3rd in her heat last week. She is engaged in Race 3 and drawn 4 and will hopefully progress through to the Group 1 Golden Easter Egg Final held on Saturday night 20th April.



TRAINERS FEE PAID UPSTAIRS TONIGHT

The race night office will be unmanned tonight due to staffing.

The Trainers fee will be paid upstairs in Chasers Punters Bar. Participants can still collect race fields and forms etc as normal.



EASTER FEATURES AT GAWLER ON EASTER MONDAY

Two heats of the Gawler Future Stars will be conducted tomorrow for SA Bred greyhounds whelped in 2017 over the 531m with a $4,000 final on Easter Monday.

Also on Easter Monday will be the Gawler Easter Sprint for Grade 4 and Grade 5 greyhounds over the 531m worth $3,000. It’s going to be a terrific night of racing on the Monday night over the Easter break. 
• Nominations Easter Monday close at 9.00am on Wednesday 17th April.

EASTER ARRANGEMENTS – THINGS TO KNOW 

With the Easter long weekend in the middle of next month there are a couple of important things to remember. 
• There will be No trials at Murray Bridge on Good Friday (19th April) 
• There will be trials at Angle Park on Saturday morning (20th April)
• There will be No trials at Gawler on Monday 22nd April due to the race meeting that night
• The Trainers Fee for Monday night (22nd April) at Gawler will be paid into your bank account due to the public holiday. 
• Scratchings for the Angle Park meeting on Tuesday, 23rd April will be taken between 3pm and 4pm on Monday, (22nd April) as per normal. 
• Nominations for the Murray Bridge meeting on Wednesday, 18th April will close at 9am on Thursday, 18th April. 
• Nominations for the Angle Park meeting on Thursday, 25th April, Gawler on Friday, 26thApril and Port Augusta on Saturday, 27th April will close at 9am on Tuesday, 23rd April. 
• Nominations for the Mount Gambier meeting on Sunday, 28th April and Murray Bridge meeting on Sunday, 28thApril and Angle Park on Monday, 29th April will close at 9am on Wednesday, 24th April. 



BLACK SHORTS NOW AVAILABLE FROM GRSA

After approval from the ICG, black shorts are now part of the GRSA Dress Code Policy and available for sale from GRSA.

These shorts have the GRSA logo embroidered on the back and are the only ones approved. They cost $45 and are available in mens and ladies sizes with orders taken if we do not have your size. Black shorts are to be worn with black socks and black shoes. These shorts can be worn at the discretion of the participant at any time.



NEW RED WET WEATHER JACKETS TO REPLACE OLD BLUE JACKETS

After consultation through the ICG panel GRSA has purchased new Red Jackets for winter to be available as a replacement for the Blue Drizeabone Jackets which are now no longer available.

These jackets will be available from Monday next week at the tracks so long as we can get them to the venues (Angle Park, Gawler, Murray Bridge and Mount Gambier). They are available from purchase for a cost of $50 at Angle Park for your own use at the track.



GAWLER TO RACE IN THE TWILIGHT ZONE ON TUESDAY 14TH MAY 2019

After GRSA received a request from Racing Queensland to assist with a movement of their race meetings on Tuesday 14th May 2019, GRSA in conjunction with the Gawler Greyhound Racing Club have moved their normal Tuesday Day Meeting (Sky 1) into the Tuesday Twilight Timeslot (Sky 1). 

Our first race on this day will start around 3.20pm and finish around 6.20pm. GRSA appreciates the Gawler GRC and other users of the Gawler venue on this day being flexible to assist with this time change. GRSA is happy to assist other States with programming changes where possible to assist those Clubs and Authorities.
