TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

The 10-event programme here at headquarters tonight looks to be very even across the board, we have a first class distance event which is race 4 on the card and that appears to be wide open. Don’t forget all races are Trifecta and First Four events so let’s hope we have a bit of good luck throughout the night and go home with some cash.

Race 1 - We kick off with a toughie, we should stick with the well performed Abuzz who has drawn wide at his last 5 runs and has been in the money on each occasion. Galactic Panther is very smart when on song and should finish in the placings. Box Up 3.4.5.7.

Race 2 - This is the Maiden of the night and Dyna Quire is certainly knocking on the door, he has finished 2nd from this draw in recent outings but his box manners need to improve. More Than Black is a pacey type and a win wouldn’t surprise. Add the newcomer in Accelerate who is bred in the purple for the Trifecta. Box Up 1.6.7.8.

Race 3 - It won’t get any tougher than this as there appears to be at least 6 chances, I liked the look of Fab Jessie who made her debut here last week and led them early only to be run down by Fine Champion, she should only be improved by the run and be right in the mix. Chaddy Whacker has only greeted the judge once in his 31 career starts but has finished in the placings in 11 so we will put him in our First Four from his inside draw. Box Up 1.2.3.7.

Race 4 - Now this is a top-class Distance affair and we saw a terrific race here last week with the newcomer Jeebus Bird and local champ On Fire going head to head for most of the 731m before Springvale Cooke rattled home over the top of them to score. It could turn out a very similar race again the way they have drawn. Box Up 1.4.5.7.

Race 5 - Forget her recent form and that is Ready To Mingle, she loves the inside draw and was a winner from here 3 starts back in 29.94. Finn’s Entity will be rattling home late along with Destini Mermaid who has won his past 2 here in good fashion. Box Up 1.2.5.7.

Race 6 - Hot Marlow should start the punters elect on his win here last month winning here in a sensational BON 29.54, he copped injury time here last start when unplaced and has been freshened since, we have to make him our top pick as he has a huge motor. Emerley Nolen is well drawn and is a must for our Trifecta. Box Up 2.3.5.6.

Race 7 - The Ben Rawlings kennel should go very close with Snakebite Bale, he has been racing well since resuming and has finally drawn down on the fence where he likes it. Born Billy and Jay’s Ace should be running on late to finish in the money. Box Up 1.2.3.6.

Race 8 - Bean Monelli was a last start winner at Sandown in 29.75 from box 4, he is very smart when on song and is drawn for a bold showing again and is our top pick. Windmill Haze can figure despite his poor draw and is a must for the Trifecta, add My Boy Tyler for value along with Tyla Grace. Box Up 1.2.3.5.

Race 9 - I like one in this at each way odds in All About Corey from box 3, he flew home last start to win here in 30.21 and was last to leave the lids, he will only keep on improving and this is a wide-open affair. Click Here is ultra-consistent and will be doing her best work late. Box Up 1.2.3.8.

Race 10 - We can go home on a winner tonight at skinny odds in Dyna Zeni from the Rasmussen kennel, he was a BON winner here from box 8 in 29.82 winning by over 6 lengths leading throughout. Emerley Mine and Willow Bubbles at huge odds can run into the placings. Box Up 1.4.7.8.

HONCHO MONELLI MATCH RACING TONIGHT AT SANDOWN

One of SA’S best sprinters Honcho Monelli time trialled last week at Sandown in an attempt to qualify for the Group 3 Speedstar tonight.

The Tony Rasmussen trained flyer ran a blistering 29.40 however he just missed qualifying for the Speedstar being named the 1st reserve. He will however compete in Race 5 tonight which is also a match race event. He takes on Immen Bale at 8.35pm SA time and looks a great chance of winning the $8,000 first prize.
It will be a great spectacle tonight at Sandown with 20 match races conducted and we wish Honcho Monlli and connections the best of luck.

2018 GROUP 3 HOWARD ASHTON – NOMINATIONS CLOSE TOMORROW

The major race for Breeders 2018 is the Group 3 Howard Ashton. Trainers are reminded that the heats will be run on Wednesday, 16th May.
These will be followed by the Semi- Finals on May 24th and the $37,500 final on May 31st. Total prizemoney for heats and semis will be determined by the number of races run.
The race is for greyhounds that are eligible for Breeders 2018. Greyhounds don’t have to have competed in the Preludes to run in the Group 3 Howard Ashton.
* Nominations close tomorrow (Friday, 11th May) with GRSA at 9.00am.

CLAIMING RACES BEING CONDUCTED

Specific claiming race conditions have been released for these events, but basically, greyhounds are graded into an event with a claiming price.

Prior to the event, new owners can buy the greyhound before it starts with any prizemoney won being retained by the old owners and then the new owners take the greyhound after the race.
These races provide an opportunity to sell and buy greyhounds that are currently competing.
Races are programmed on –
Wednesday 16th – 388m (nominations close tomorrow (Friday, 11th May) with GRSA at 9.00am)
Wednesday 30th May – 388m

MOUNT GAMBIER RETURNING TO RACING

The upgrade of the Mt Gambier track has been completed. The project involved raising the cambers around the track to 10% on the turns and 4% on the straights.

The positions of the starts and track access points were all impacted by the increase to the camber.
The club will return to racing on schedule for this Sunday 13th May after trialling on Tuesday.

MOUNT GAMBIER SET TO RUN ADDITIONAL FORTNIGHTLY THURSDAY MEETING

The Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club is set to run an additional fortnightly Thursday afternoon race meeting over the coming months.

The addition of these meetings follows consultation between the Club and GRSA on servicing local participants during the temporary closure of the Warrnambool Greyhound Club for refurbishments from May to August. With the pool of nominations for Mount Gambier coming from the South East region of SA and from across the border in country Victoria, it is believed that an extra meeting per fortnight will assist participation in the region. The change will result in Mount Gambier racing on a two week cycle of Friday/Sunday in the first week and then Thursday/Sunday in the second week.

GRSA have released three extra dates in the first instance in late May and June to establish support, with the intent to add additional meetings in July and August whilst the Warrnambool works take place (estimated at 4 months). GRSA thanks the support of the Mt Gambier GRC, Radio TAB, staff and Sky Racing for their support for these extra meetings.

Date changes are listed below –
Add: Mount Gambier – Thursday 24th May 2018  (TAB) Day (Time Graded by Groups)
Add: Mount Gambier – Thursday 7th June 2018  (TAB) Day
Add: Mount Gambier – Thursday 21st June 2018  (TAB) Day

GRADING REVIEW PANEL TO MEET ON FRIDAY, 25TH MAY

The Grading Review Panel will meet on Friday, 25th May to discuss grading in South Australia from an Agenda provided by submissions and industry consultation with the outcomes released shortly after the meeting.

KURT DONSBERG – ONCOURSE RACE NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHER

Recently Kurt was able to extend his roster to not only do Thursday night meetings at Angle Park but also the Monday night and Wednesday day meetings, however, due to personal commitments he is unable to do Monday nights until later in the year. Kurt will continue as normal with Thursdays and also Wednesdays based on his availability.

On those days/nights of racing when Kurt is not oncourse GRSA will continue to allow participants to take their own presentation photos and if required, gain access to the presentation area. Please just liaise with the Stewards on the day for access.

ACCELL THERAPY MAT NOW AVAILABLE AT ANGLE PARK

The mat is now available in the foyer area of the Angle Park building. It is recommended that a greyhound derives benefit with a 15 to 20 minute session and is generally for recovery from racing or injury. It will be available during normal office hours to be used (greyhounds racing on that day excluded). Please ask the Racing Admin staff if you wish to use the mat. GRSA is working towards making this available also during trial sessions.

TRIAL DATES FOR STRATHALBYN

You can book trials via text MSG / or call Yvonne King at the Club on 0407 334 349 between 9am and 11am on the day of the trials.  All qualifying trials will need to be booked through GRSA as per normal by 12.30pm on the day of the Qualy trials.
