TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

I hoped you followed last week as we had a very good night on the punt and our best roughie went down by a nose at 14/1 but payed well for the place. Tonight should be no different as there appears to be several good events: the highlight are the 2 heats of the SA 2019 Sprint Championship which are races 4 and 5 on the programme. As usual all races are Trifecta and First Four events; the kennel to follow tonight is the Rasmussen team.

Race 1 and this is a tricky event to kick start the night with as there are several chances, we will go with Big Casey who has been racing well with 4 wins from his last 5 runs he should go close again, Rachel Zane is the obvious danger and will improve from the rails draw. Box Up 1.2.4.5.

Race 2 This is the Maiden of the night and we will go with the well-drawn Victa Charlie who has been the runner up at his last 3 starts he has his paw on the till and will be hard to beat, Bam Bam Johnny and McLaren Stardust are a must for the Trifecta. Box Up the inside four. 1.2.3.4

Race 3 There looks to be 2 main chances and they are very hard to split they are Sway Bars who is the likely improver from the rails draw and Zipping Rocket who led throughout here last week for a 30.30 win from box 8 both are a must for our First Four add Billy Fix It and Spring Double. Box Up 2.4.7.8.

Race 4 This is the 1st of the Sprint heats and it certainly is a quality line up, Cawbourne Swade is a class runner and is yet to miss a cheque in his 6 runs at this venue we will put him on top, Honcho Monelli will appreciate the small field and is the BIG danger. Box Up 4,5,7,8

Race 5 The class act in this is the inform Fabwik who has won her last 7 here all in slick times including a last start 29.70 run from box 3 here last week, Shimando and Shima Breeze can fill the placings. Box Up 1.4.7.8

Race 6 This is the distance affair of the night and we have to go with Cairnlea Jet again he continues to impress with good wins and has a terrific strike rate of 8 from 12 at this venue, Phiils Green and Jeebus Bird are our trifecta runners. Box Up 3.6.7.8.

Race 7 The Troy Murray kennel rarely leaves the track without a winner and Aston Marshall can finally break through in this he is well drawn and is our top pick, Kinate and Silver Timothy are more than capable of showing up as is Private Nangar. Box Up 2.3.4.5.

Race 8 This is the series final for the grade 6 runners and the Corby kennel looks to have a straggle hold on this event with litter mates Querencia and Eedee Keepsake both are very smart youngters and are hard to split Box Up 1.2.6.7.

Race 9 Nations flew late here last start to run 2nd behind Destini Rocket and is working towards a win and from box 8 looks the one to beat, Stack The Aces and Destini Rocket love this trip and should be right in the mix again. Box Up all the evens 2.4.6.8.

Race 10 This is a terrific event to go home on as there looks to be several chances I will go with Love Made Me out wide who can give this a big shake, Sketchy Gun can surprise along with Dynamical for the Rasmussen kennel. Box Up 1.5.7.8 for our First Four.

Tonight we have 2 heats running for the 2019 SA Sprint Championship.

In Heat 1 (race 4 on the program) sees a very competitive field assembled with all runners able to make an argument for winning through to the final. It features Gawler Gold Cup winner Honcho Monelli in box 7 who will line up against kennel-mates Zudactyl Monelli (box 1) and Cawbourne Swade (box 4) for the Rasmussen team. The Ben Rawlings trained Alicante Bouchet will be looking to lead early and will be a threat from box 5.

Heat 2 sees another great field headlined by Adelaide Cup finalists Fabwik, trained by Kirin Corby, in box 8 who has been in ripping form of late and will find tough competition from the likes of Shima Breeze trained by Tony Rasmussen, Fantastic Chief trained by Ben Rawlings in box 1 and the Troy Murray trained He's Okay.
