TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

The 2019 Doug Payne SA Bred Feature is amongst the 12 event programme we have tonight at Headquarters (race 6) offering just under $8,000 to the winner, it certainly is a quality line up and they are sure to run time on a quick track. Other highlights look to be a very strong 731m and a more than handy 600m. Don’t forget all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - We can kick off with a winner in Oakvale Elite down in box 1, he is in outstanding form winning his 5 career starts all in good fashion. Long Gully Barny along with I’m Top Girl can run into the placings. Box Up 1.2.5.8

Race 2 - Right Exit continues to find one better each week in her races, she has been placed 5 of her 8 runs at this venue and is very close to a win. My Girl Rocks has handy short course form and is a must for our Trifecta. Box Up 1.2.7.8.

Race 3 - Wooden Tiger showed his class when winning here last start after striking plenty of trouble, he should only keep on improving and we will make him our top pick. Burner’s Baby looks to have a handy future, she won from this draw last start and appears the main danger. Box Up 2.4.5.7.

Race 4 - This looks a handy race for Hot Desert Storm to break through, she has been working towards a win in tougher company and can get the chocolates tonight for us. Classy Blaze was a good even run here last start from box 1 and can run a cheeky race once again. Box Up 1.2.4.8.

Race 5 - The 731m of the night and we have a newcomer in the Murray kennel from NSW who has won 3 of 40 along with 14 placings in Bekim Express, he was placed last start at Wentworth Park over 720m and has been in reasonable form prior so we will put him on top. Sir Truculent didn’t have a huge amount of luck here last start and is right in the mix along with My Boy Bean. Box up 1.4.7.8

Race 6 - This is the 2019 Doug Payne SA Bred final and Alfieri showed them a clean set of paws here last start when winning by over 7L in a slick 29.51, he looks the leader again and is hard to tip against. Coorong Lucy tasted defeat for the 1st time in 9 starts when 2nd here, she is all class and is the only danger. Axel Footluce and Gemtree Dynamo for the minors. Box Up 1.2.5.8

Race 7 - Tough event so it makes for a terrific First Four, the main chances look to be Instantaneous who was a handy run here on debut and can only improve on the run. Emmy Gray who is back to the sprint tonight and is a big chance of leading. Hot Zorro and Aston Jedi both have been racing well and are well drawn. Box Up 2.3.4.8

Race 8 - Two Times Twice was a good even run when 2nd behind Alfieri after finding early trouble, he was doing his best work late and should be improved with another look at the track. Oakvale Warrior is ultra-consistent being in the placings at his last 4 runs, he is well drawn down on the fence and will be right in the finish. Box Up 3.5.7.8

Race 9 - This is the 600m of the night and we will go with the inform Aston Chandon out in box 8, she has won 4 of her last 5 here and Gawler all in quick times, she loves this trip and should lead and win. West On Bamboo is very strong and has only missed a cheque over this distance twice in 11 runs, add American Man who was a last start sprint winner. Box Up 2.4.6.8.

Race 10 - Footrot Fosse should start the short price favourite in this, he won here 2 runs back in quick time and looks far too good in this, add Herculean and Predecessor for the minors. Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 11 - The Rasmussen kennel looks to have a handy one with Patrick Francis down in box 2, he won on debut here in 30.19 from the same draw, he should make it 2 in a row. Right Above It is back in the Ben Rawlings kennel and is certainly one to watch. Box up 1.2.4.5

Race 12 - Blastoise can send us home on a winning note, he was a very nice winner here last start in good time and can do the same in this. City Limit Sign will be running on as will Surfing Dyno at each way odds. Box Up 1.2.4.8

MOUNT GAMBIER BACK RACING ON BOXING DAY IN THE TWILIGHT ZONE

GRSA advises that Mount Gambier will be back racing on Thursday 26th December 2019 in the twilight zone thanks to the support of Sky Racing and staffing availabilities.

GRSA appreciates boxing day is one of the busiest days of the year for racing and is thankful that Sky Racing has been able to allocate a twilight timeslot in support of the club which should attract industry and patron support. GRSA has also been able to secure veterinary services on this day and appreciate local staff for their attendance in ensuring this meeting can be conducted.   Specific race times and race program will be released shortly.

MURRAY BRIDGE PUPPY BOX TIMING

Some changes have recently been made to the timing configuration for the 325m puppy box start at Murray Bridge.

Previously the timing system would commence once a greyhound had crossed a sectional beam five metres after the start. The boxes have now been modified to initiate the timing system at box rise, resulting in an addition 0.50-1.00 seconds being added to the previously recorded overall time.

BATTERY/REMOTE LURE CARRIAGE

Over the past two weeks the team at Murray Bridge has trialled greyhounds behind the battery/remote lure carriage on the 1-turn track.

These trials have been very successful and feedback from trainers participating in the trials has been positive. Over the coming weeks GRSA are hopeful of utilising the battery/remote lure carriage at a regular Tuesday or Friday trial session to continue to progress its development.

Management is keen to demonstrate the suitability of the battery/remote lure carriage on circle tracks, as it provides a contingency if there are issues with the primary lure system. Recently a trial session was cancelled at Murray Bridge due to a cable issue, something which may not need to occur in the future if the battery/remote lure carriage can be quickly and effectively used as a backup.
