TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

We have a mixed bag of racing at headquarters tonight with three different distances on offer.  The 600m and 731m events are very strong and appear to be good betting races.  Races 4, 6 and 7 over the sprint should be good First 4 events as they are wide open.

Race 1 and we start the night with a tricky one as there is at least 4 main chances. I will stick with Caustic Bale who flashed home late to run 3rd in the Sprint final here last week.  Wheel Spinner charged to the front and won by 6L here last Thursday and has returned to form.  Kalispell could be the Smokey as he has a good turn of early pace.  Box Up 2.3.4.5.

Race 2 and Rhynstone Jetta is drawn to win for mine on his last start 29.94 win here from the rails.  He should kick up and prove hard to beat again. Molly Dobbs is hit and miss but on her night can pinch this.  Memory Assassin keeps on running into the money and is a must for the trifecta punters.   Box Up 1.2.6.7.

Race 3 we will go with the newcomer from Victoria in Jonny Quick Step, he trialled well here and has a handy record of 7 wins and 6 placings from his 19 career starts. My Boy Ollie can’t be overlooked in the Jovanovic kennel and can crack the 30 sec barrier.  Box Up 2.3.4.5.

Race 4 how good is this event, we only have 5 starters and they are all quality. We will go with Coorong Kid again as he can come from behind or lead. Wild Soul bounced back with a slick BON win here in 29.65 last week and the kennel is on song of late.  Due to the small field we will go 4.2.8.1 for a $1.00

Race 5 and this is the distance event of the night and 5 of the runners were in last week’s Distance Championship final.  Mija Returns missed the kick from this draw but should be able to lead tonight with moderate beginner’s around her.  Zipping Geoff flew home to collect the big bickies here last Thursday and should only keep on improving.  Springvale Bryne has early pace and will be right in the finish. Box Up 1.3.6.7.

Race 6 and if we are looking for a good Each Way special we have to go with Mobius out in box 7, she gets a long way back but with an ounce of luck  she will give us a huge sight over the last 100m. Getty Bale and Excusez Moi will be right in the mix along with Lucy Fergo.  Box Up 4.5.7.8.

Race 7 and Regal Looper hasn’t raced since late last month when 2nd here and is sure to bounce back into the winners circle like the rest of his kennel.  Fusaichi Kahn wouldn’t surprise from box 8 with a win from a clear run at handy odds.  Box Up 1.3.7.8.

Race 8 how good is this 600m event even with the scratching of one of the favourite, She’s A Looper.  Gun McBain who led them a merry dance in a quality field here Monday night for a slick 34.98 win looks hardest to beat and Manhattan Cry who hasn’t missed a cheque in his last 4 starts over this trip will be strong at the end.   Barely’s Rhythm is well drawn from the 7. Box Up 2.4.7.8.

Race 9 and this is a very tricky event as there looks to be no standouts for mine, so that makes it a terrific trifecta and First 4 race.  When in doubt we have to go with Shana Allen down in box 1 for the Lisa Rasmussen kennel, she can improve and should go close.  Backpacker out in box 8 has been hit and miss of late but can’t be overlooked.  Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 10 and I like the inside 4 here as they all have similar racing styles. We will put Hesa Jayclo on top as he is back in grade.  Park Glory has the draw and shouldn’t be far away.  Box Up 1.2.3.4.

Race 11 and Junner Bale can send us home on a winning note after her last start win here in 30.19.  She loves the wide draws and has a good turn of early pace.  Kalden Nina and the pacey Aston Coco both will be in the finish and are a must for the trifecta.  Box Up 1.3.4.6.

GAWLER SUNDAY TRANSFERRED TO ANGLE PARK

Due to ongoing maintenance issues with the Gawler Greyhound Racing track the race meeting programmed for this Sunday 24th April 2016 will be transferred to Angle Park.

This meeting at Angle Park on Sunday will start at 5.59pm with the last of 10 races at 9.04pm. Races will be special event Non Penalty races with all races conducted on the Finish on Lure as this would have been the case at Gawler.

Racing Dates –

Delete: Gawler – Sunday 24th April 2016 (TAB) Night

Add: Angle Park – Sunday 24th April 2016 (TAB) Night

Greyhound Racing SA considered an extra trial session at Angle Park due to the racing and trialing opportunities missed this week at Gawler however with Sundays meeting now being transferred to Angle Park this was not done.

The recent problems at Gawler are of clear concern to GRSA and fall below any acceptable standard, having regard for this, GRSA will be reimbursing any trainers on application who had to travel more than 2 hours (total trip) to attend the trials this morning and were turned away.  This Sunday’s race meeting will be shifted to Angle Park, will be non-penalty status, and will operate on the FOL system.  It is our intention to race at Gawler this Tuesday, but only if we are completely satisfied that any concerns have been resolved.  When trialling resumes at Gawler, there will be no charge for the following fortnight as a gesture of support to local participants. The Gawler lure system will be treated as a priority matter until resolved. .

ADDITIONAL SUNDAY RACING FOR MT GAMBIER

The Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club has been given approval by the GRSA Board to run an additional three extra Sunday meetings over the next three months on a trial basis.

Mount Gambier has been averaging over 140 nominations for their weekly race meetings since January this year and this week we have 12 races on the Friday with 11 on the Sunday. The extra Sunday meetings will aim to cater for lower class and maiden greyhounds as well as generally supporting the opportunity for trainers to gain a start which may otherwise have been denied to them under current scheduling.

The additional racing will be on –

Sunday 24th April 2016

Sunday 22nd May 2016

Sunday 19th June 2016

The club will continue to run their normal Friday meeting prior to these Sundays.

Racing on the Friday and Sunday of these weeks will provide that extra opportunity once a month for those greyhounds unable to gain a start.

These meetings will be graded under these conditions –

  • The Mount Gambier GRC will have their main meeting for that weekend graded first.
  • Those greyhounds who gain a start in one meeting will be considered at the end for the other meeting allowing for greater participation.
  • There will be an opportunity for greyhounds to “Beat The Grader” allowing for the chance to win two races for only one grade.
  • The Mount Gambier GRC will program additional Heat and Finals to accommodate this pool of greyhounds.

PRIZEMONEY CHANGES FROM 1ST APRIL 2016

The following got approval at the February Board meeting to be implemented on 1st April 2016:

UNDERCOVER AREA AT ANGLE PARK

On Race Nights at Angle Park in the undercover area some children have been playing with basketballs, soccerballs/footballs and skateboarding which has been going on for years. However within the environment of Work, Health and Safety and due to patrons and participants who access this area to go upstairs to the restaurant or grandstand these activities will have to stop. Our security staff will advise these children that this can no longer be an activity conducted in this area.

Some of these children are from our participant base and we understand how easily they can get bored being at the greyhounds all night. GRSA is providing Nintendo DS upstairs in Chasers however we are requesting some feedback from industry in regard to what further entertainment GRSA could provide for the kids bearing in mind the surroundings on course. Please email to [email protected]

CHANGES TO PATHWAY RACING TIME STANDARDS

The GRSA Racing Department wishes to advise of the following changes to Pathway Racing time standards, which will take effect from Friday 1st April, 2016:

The methodology for establishing the Pathway Racing time standards was based on the average winning time in Grade 5 & 6 events at each track/distance. Following a request for an immediate review of these times (particularly at Mt Gambier), it was established that the information displayed on the GRSA website relating to average winning times was incorrect.

As such, the Racing Department has collated the correct information and has amended the Pathway Racing time standards accordingly. A further review of the Pathway Racing concept will occur at the end of the 6-month trial in early July.

Participants wishing to provide feedback on Pathway Racing are urged to forward comments to GRSA via email, post or through the GRSA closed Facebook page.

PATHWAY RACING FLATTENED STAKES

From the 1st April the next three months will commence with FLATTENED STAKEMONEY. The tables listed below highlight the difference in prizemoney levels.

It is extremely important that trainers MUST nominate for the Pathway Races with such a difference in prizemoney. If you do not nominate for these events you cannot be considered. The grader will consider greyhounds for normal events if you do not get a run in a Pathway event. It is recommended that trainers nominate for both Pathway and normal graded however if you only want to be considered for Pathway you must put “Only” on your nomination. Please contact the grader at GRSA if you require further information.
