Angle Park Preview APRIL 14

Racing News

TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

Well it doesn’t get any better than this and I’m on about Race 8 on the programme, the SA Anniversary Cup Final.  All 8 runners can collect the $10,000 winner’s prize, even the reserves are a big chance if there happens to be a scratching.  To add to the quality of the night we have a very smart Distance event in Race 6, where the interstaters should have a big say on their last weeks efforts and they can only be improved with the look at the Angle Park circuit, but we can’t overlook the locals who have the home track advantage and yes there’s another $10,000 big ones to the winner. Top it off with a classy 600m event and we are in for a terrific night of racing.

Race 1 and we will go with the Tony Rasmussen trained Allen Kentucky.  He charged home to win here last start from box 2 in 29.87 and from the rails draw tonight looks the one to beat.  Trigger Bling is a newcomer from across the border and is in the Murray kennel, he has been racing well over the short at Ballarat and is worth putting in the trifecta.  Add in Blu Light Banjo who also won here last start for the first 4.  Box Up 1.2.3.6.

Race 2 we will stick with box 1 again with Sheeza Nitro.  She found heaps of trouble here last start when checked early but she can bounce back and run a big race.  Don’t Kid Me is in outstanding form for Ray Fewings and he will be right in the finish once again.  Molly Dobbs is the smokey with a clear run but can be hit and miss on box rise.  Box Up 1.4.5.6.

Race 3 there are several chances in this we see Miss Kadia venture back after her 7th here last week but she was only beaten 6L in a slick 29.67 so she will be a big improver from the rails draw.  Wild Soul continues to be hit and miss on box rise but he has his paw on the till and can’t be overlooked.  Black Bottle led them a merry dance here last week with a blistering 1st section and carved out a nice win in 29.78.  Box Up 1.2.3.4.

Race 4 the two main chances for mine look to be Getty Bale and Dana Jorja.  Both have different racing styles as the latter will be rattling home over the top of them.  Wayne’s Error is very strong and despite his poor draw of 5 is a must for all of the first 4 punters.  Box Up 1.2.5.7.

Race 5 This is a quality 600m event and the Ray Murray kennel will have a big say with his two runners in Manhattan Cry and the speedy Von Dousa, both are in good form and can nearly fight out the finish, Dyna Inca should get a nice sit down the back and run into the top 4.  Box Up 1.2.5.8.

Race 6 and this is the SA Distance Final with $10,000 to winner on offer.  The Gerald O’keefe trained Bells Are Ringin made a huge impression here at his first look at the track with a strong win from box 6 in a BON 43.18.  He should only be improved by the outing and has the pace to be right up there early. Miss Bo Wicked is another who should improve as she overcome an early check to run a strong 2nd local hopes Mija Returns and the pacey Springvale Bryne can give some cheek.  Box Up 3.4.5.7.

Race 7, This is an interesting event,  the Ben Rawlings runner in Wilba Beast is in terrific form of late with 4 wins here in his last five starts.  Dodger I Am lacks early pace but will be doing his best work over the last 100m.  Pawesome Boss loves this draw and is the value runner.  Box Up 1.2.3.8

Race 8 the Final of the Anniversary Cup and as mentioned before how good a race is this!!  The Butcher kennel again has a strong hand in this event and I will go with Coorong Kid despite his poor draw of 5.  He can overcome a poor start or on his night can lead, he is like a mixed bag of lollies and you aren’t sure what we will get until the night. Kennel mate She’s A Looper is very smart and a win wouldn’t be a surprise, add in Caustic Bale who walks early but is well boxed and the flying Gun McBain and they are my top 4 in a fantastic sprint event.  Box Up 2.4.5.8.

Race 9 and I like the inside 3 here, all have different racing styles and they all have a chance with an ounce of luck early.  Venture out to box 8 in a youngster in Signal Peak who has won at both his starts in Victoria over the short.  Looks to be an each way chance.  Box Up 1.2.3.8

Race 10 and this looks one of the better bets of the night and that is the Petar Jovanovic trained My Boy Ollie.  He has a good turn of pace from box rise and has started to find form at his last two starts, so we will put him on top.  Add in Tuggeragh down in the 4 and Banker Bale who must improve from the rails draw.  Box Up 1.4.6.7.

Race 11 and let’s hope we are in front by now as this is a toughie but a good trifecta and first 4 event.  McLaren Missile is very hit and miss but when on song is more than capable of saluting the judge. Izzy Go has pace and hasn’t missed a cheque at his last 4 starts at this venue.  Monster Foxy is smart when on song but has proven costly in recent weeks.  Box Up 3.4.6.7.

VALE – MARION LANYON

GRSA was saddened to hear of the passing of Marion Lanyon last week. Marion and her husband Don have been stalwarts of the Greyhound Racing Family for many years. Based in the North of the State at Kadina, Marion was involved in all facets of the Industry and she will be sorely missed.

Our thoughts are with Don and his family at this sad time.

ANGLE PARK & GAWLER TRACK TURNOVER CANCELLED

The Gawler and Angle Park turnovers that were scheduled for this week have been cancelled and will now be set for a later date.

With this being the case there will now be trials at Angle Park on Saturday morning.

WINNING FORMULA IN SA NEXT WEEK

Peter Bryce from Winning Formula has advised that he will be back in SA at our local tracks next week. He will be at Gawler on Sunday 17th and Tuesday 19th April along with Angle Park on Monday 18th and Wednesday 20th April

FABREGAL IN GROUP 2 FINAL AT ALBION PARK

SA owned, bred and trained Fabregal will go into tonights Group 2 Bogie Leigh Futurity at Albion Park full of confidence after a blistering heat win where she clocked a brilliant 29.91 in winning by over 5 lengths. The daughter of Fabregas and Alinga Aye Jay will go in as the fastest qualifier and again has drawn box 1 for connections and trainer Robyn Mackellar. She is engaged in race 7 on the program tonight and with almost $50,000 up for grabs for winning we wish them all the best of luck.

LUNA JINX AND REAL FLASH IN PERTH ON SATURDAY

Two of our best local greyhounds will be in Perth on Saturday night for their Perth Cup and Galaxy heats. Both races are Group 1 events with Luna Jinx engaged in the Galaxy and Real Flash in the Perth Cup.

Luna Jinx missed a run last week in the Preludes of the Galaxy when lightning abandoned half the program so if she can qualify for the final she will only improve. It will be tough for the Gavin Harris trained star as there are four heats of the Galaxy with the first two qualifying. She is engaged in race 9 on the card at Cannington and has drawn box 6.

Real Flash has been trialling nicely locally but hasn’t been seen in a race for almost 5 months however she returns to the venue where she had her greatest win, in winning last years Group 2 WA Oaks. She has drawn perfectly in box 1 for Troy Murray in race 3 and if anywhere near her top she will give them something to chase.

Yesterday at the Meadows up and coming star Hukanui took another step forward in his career when he won a mixed 4/5 event in strong fashion. The Tony Rasmussen trained flyer ran 30.25 over the 525m in running home powerfully to score with the Group 3 Howard Ashton next month one of his next targets.

Mount Gambier has been averaging over 140 nominations for their weekly race meetings since January this year. The additional racing will be on –

  • The Mount Gambier GRC will have their main meeting for that weekend graded first.
  • Those greyhounds who gain a start in one meeting will be considered at the end for the other meeting allowing for greater participation.

UNDERCOVER AREA AT ANGLE PARK

On Race Nights at Angle Park in the undercover area some children have been playing with basketballs, soccerballs/footballs and skateboarding which has been going on for years. However within the environment of Work, Health and Safety and due to patrons and participants who access this area to go upstairs to the restaurant or grandstand these activities will have to stop. Our security staff will advise these children that this can no longer be an activity conducted in this area.

Some of these children are from our participant base and we understand how easily they can get bored being at the greyhounds all night. GRSA is providing Nintendo DS upstairs in Chasers however we are requesting some feedback from industry in regard to what further entertainment GRSA could provide for the kids bearing in mind the surroundings on course. Please email to [email protected]

CHANGES TO PATHWAY RACING TIME STANDARDS

The GRSA Racing Department wishes to advise of the following changes to Pathway Racing time standards, which will take effect from Friday 1st April, 2016:

The methodology for establishing the Pathway Racing time standards was based on the average winning time in Grade 5 & 6 events at each track/distance. Following a request for an immediate review of these times (particularly at Mt Gambier), it was established that the information displayed on the GRSA website relating to average winning times was incorrect.

As such, the Racing Department has collated the correct information and has amended the Pathway Racing time standards accordingly. A further review of the Pathway Racing concept will occur at the end of the 6-month trial in early July.

Participants wishing to provide feedback on Pathway Racing are urged to forward comments to GRSA via email, post or through the GRSA closed Facebook page.

PATHWAY RACING FLATTENED STAKES

From the 1st April the next three months will commence with FLATTENED STAKEMONEY. The tables listed below highlight the difference in prizemoney levels.

It is extremely important that trainers MUST nominate for the Pathway Races with such a difference in prizemoney. If you do not nominate for these events you cannot be considered. The grader will consider greyhounds for normal events if you do not get a run in a Pathway event. It is recommended that trainers nominate for both Pathway and normal graded however if you only want to be considered for Pathway you must put “Only” on your nomination. Please contact the grader at GRSA if you require further information.
