TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

It’s the highlight of our racing calendar the 2018 UBET Adelaide Cup final which is race 8 on the massive 12 event programme tonight, with $75,000 going to the winner the race has 7 local performers with only the one Victorian who is in the powerful Seona Thompson kennel. We also have a Cup consolation and the 2018 Premiers Cup over the 731m, it makes for a terrific night of racing and I’m sure we can all go home on the right side of the ledger. Don’t forget all races are Trifecta and First Four events and good luck to all the Cup contenders and their owners.

Race 1 - We kick off with a tricky event and the 2 main chances look to be Mepunga Gal who will find this more to her liking and the newcomer from Darwin in Crocodile Crush who won the Darwin Cup there this year. Both should be right in the mix and are a must for our First Four. Add Dyna Adria and Jays Ace for value. Box Up 3.4.7.8.

Race 2 - The JudI Hurley kennel look to hold a strong hand in this with Emerley Express and litter mate Emerley Zero, both look to have ability and should feature in the placings. Springvale Diva is one to watch as the kennel has a good strike rate with their youngsters. Box Up 2.3.5.8.

Race 3 - This is the SA Country Cup with runners who have qualified at our country tracks as far as Mount Gambier and Port Augusta. Fantastic Chief and Reiko Rocketta went head to head last start when only a neck separated them on the line, they should both be there about again on that effort. The Jeff Guy trained Paraphernalia has very good credentials and is drawn for a bold showing from the rails. Box Up 1.2.3.5.

Race 4 - The well-travelled Lobster Hill is my pick in this event, he won here 2 starts back in 30.22 and was a handy winner over the short at Mount Gambier, he has the pace to lead and win. Cappuccino is very smart when on song and is the big danger, add Come On Enzo who will be running on strongly. Box Up 4.6.7.8.

Race 5 - The 2018 Premiers Cup over the staying journey with over $7,000 to the winner, the main chances will come from the pacey Cairnlea Jet who gets his chance to bounce back after finding a heap of trouble here last week over the sprint, he can lead from the wide draw and has carved out quick times in the past. Jeebus Bird has been ultra-consistent of late and can run a cheeky race once again. Box Up 1.4.5.8.

Race 6 - This is the Cup consolation and I like the Victorian runner Vital Force, he led them a merry dance here last week only to be run down on the line, that was his first look at the track and he should only be improved. Nations should start the punters elect as he is a flying machine when out in front, he has mixed form from this draw but is a must for the trifecta. Windmill Haze and Smart Knocka have drawn well and can’t be left out of our calculations. Box Up 1.4.7.8.

Race 7 - This is a wide open affair and it makes for a very interesting betting race; the main chances look to be the pacey Pure Ability down in box 3 the inform Game Face along with Rachel Zane who won here last week in good fashion. All 3 are a must for our First Four, add Dyna Soren for value. Box Up 1.3.7.8.

Race 8 - The 2018 UBET Adelaide Cup final and as mentioned earlier the winner gets a cheque for $75,000, good luck to all finalists as the Cup is a very prestigious event to win. The early pace will come from the Kirin Corby flying machine Fabwik who led them a merry dance here last week winning her heat in 29.48 from this draw, she has an outstanding record at this venue and will be the one they all have to catch. Real Simple is the only interstate finalist, from the powerful Thompson kennel who has won this race 3 times, and will be the big improver. He led throughout for a solid victory carving out a 29.79 gallop at his first look at the track, he could be the surprise runner at handy each way odds. Honcho Monelli for the Rasmussen kennel along with Spring Bridge from the Gregory Board team will be the two flying late and with a clear run will be right in the finish. The Ben Rawlings kennel has done a terrific job to qualify two runners and they are Bogie Bullet and Alpha Aion, both have struck form at the right time and are rough chances of pinching a place with early luck. I mentioned in last week’s article there is always a boil over in the heats and I was right on song when Master Chaos saluted, the Rehman’s have done well to qualify him but he would need enormous luck to figure.   Box Up 1.3.4.8.

Race 9 - Aston Marshall is my tip in this, he flew the lids from this draw last start and went on to win by 3L in 29.92, he is in form and will hard to catch. Zinnia Monelli found early trouble last week and battled on well to only be beaten by under 2 lengths, she looks the likely improver from the better draw. Box Up 2.3.6.8.

Race 10 - This is the 600m of the night and we will stick with Stack The Aces who led and was run down in the concluding stages here last week, let’s hope he can skip away and pinch this. Phil’s Green loves this trip and proved too strong in the run home when winning in a smart 35.12 last start, he looks the big danger again. Box Up 2.3.4.5.

Race 11 - The Troy Murray kennel has He’s Okay firing of late and on last week’s run where he led throughout for a strong 29.89 win he is our top pick. Sarina Monelli is more than capable and the well-drawn Emerley Nolen are the major players for the trifecta. Box Up 2.3.6.8.

Race 12 - After a huge night of racing we can go home on a winner with the Graham Smith trained Flummoxed in box 2, his kennel has been on song with several winners last Wednesday and he can continue the good form again in this. You Dee Elle won first up here last start in 30.20 and is worth putting in our First Four along with Blessed In Black and Stitch Em Cilla. Box Up 2.3.7.8.
