TELLING THE TAIL
By The Shadow

Tonight we have two heats of the SA Oaks (races 2@3) over the 530m and we also have two heats of the SA Derby (races 6@7) both finals will be held here next week so it will make for an interesting night for punters. As usual all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - What a way to kick start the night we have a distance affair and the return of the champ Sir Truculent, he was a last start winner here over the 595m in 34.06 and showed his usual dash so we will put him on top. Bedrock Fred wasn’t disgraced when 2nd here last week after showing pace so he can figure again. Lashes Monelli was very impressive when winning here on debut band is right in this again on that effort. Box Up 2.3.6.8

Race 2 - This is the 1st heat of the SA Oaks and Spring Agatha has shown enough in her 7 runs that she has plenty of ability, she has early pace and won at Gawler in quick time two runs back. Queen Redeem has trialled here and has won at Sandown over the 595m and wins at Ballarat and Cranbourne, she is one to keep an eye on. Mallee Dreamer is a pacey type and is amongst the better chances. Box Up 4.6.7.8

Race 3 - Zipping Decoy has strong Richmond form here in the 2nd of the Oaks heats, she has won 3 of her past 5 there and has been very well supported on each occasion. Zinfandel Nikki proved too strong in the run home here last run and is drawn to have every chance again. Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 4 - The Troy Murray kennel has a new one in Impress Patch, he was placed here over the short on debut but his best form is over the 530m where he has won at Dapto recently and looks very hard to beat in this tonight. Stars Aligned is a strong type and will be running on as will My Name’s Craig. Box Up 1.3.5.6

Race 5 - Interesting event this one as we see the return of Shadow Mist in box 4, he has been racing back in Victoria and finds himself back here in SA, he is a smart type when on song. Spring Vinnie has been freshened up, he loves this draw and is a smart performer. Add Defy who is knocking on the door. Box Up 1.2.4.6

Race 6 - This is the 1st of two of the Derby heats and we will go with Came and Went who was a last start winner here in 30.70, he has good box manners and is drawn to have every chance. Gemtree Maximus is a speed machine early, he will be carving across but has struggled in the past with the 530m, if he opens up a big break he should hold on. Canya Storm is drawn to run into the Trifecta. Box up 1.2.3.8

Race 7 - Mallee Dreamer looks very hard to beat in the 2nd of the Derby heats, he has won 3 of his 4 starts and should be primed for this of the rails draw. Canya Razor is yet to win over the 500m but has shown enough he can get the trip. Add Influencer who looks to be a handy type. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 8 - This looks a wide open affair as there is five last start winners engaged, we will go with Hot Spartan who has been racing well and carved out a BON 30.47 here last run from this draw, he gets his chance again. Dakota Roxy is another who is quick early she has won her past two here and is the danger. Spring Burner has the gun draw and No Knowledge was a good effort when winning for us at 10/1 here last week. Box Up 1.3.4.6

Race 9 - Adele’s Entity has certainly taken a liking to the new track here at head quarters, she has been showing terrific early pace winning her past two here in good fashion, she has the draw to win again. Victa Saige is a strong type she tends to find trouble in her races but will be running on strongly. Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 10 - Steal The Prize was never out of trouble here last week and hopefully can do the opposite here tonight, he can run time with luck early. Victa Kurt is knocking on the door and looks amongst the Trifecta chances. Tidelands and Victa Grosso are also chances. Box Up 1.4.5.8

Race 11 - This is over the 595m and we will go with the pacey Chimera Monelli who led everywhere bar the post here last run, he looks very hard to beat in this. Victa Jess is a moderate beginner but is strong and should get a nice run from the draw. Forte Nero and Couture can run into the First Four. Box Up 1.2.5.7

Race 12 - Victa Haydn can send us home on a winning note, he gets back in his races but will be rattling home over the top of them. Hot Rocks is well drawn and is a chance of leading. Zinfandel Oompa is pacey but has been struggling to run a solid 530m. Add Victa Reid who is suited by the draw. Box Up 1.2.4.7

TAB MATCH RACE CHALLENGE – SA TAKES ON THE ALL-STARS – NOMINATIONS CLOSE MONDAY 20TH SEPTEMBER

South Australia will again conduct the annual Match Race Challenge next month, held on Thursday, 23rd September during the rich Adelaide Cup Carnival.

Previously conducted as a State of Origin Series between SA and Victorian greyhounds, current Covid-19 restrictions have again forced a rethink for the event in 2021, which was temporarily changed to an SA trained event last year for the same reasons.

After liaising with GRV and noting the current border restrictions that are likely to remain in place for some time, the linking of the Group 1 Adelaide Cup with Victorian events (Group 1 Topgun and Group 2 Shootout) will not occur in 2021.

To ensure that Angle Park TAB Match Race Challenge attracts the best greyhounds possible, GRSA has altered the conditions of the series to be “SA TAKES ON THE ALL-STARS”. It will be a similar format to the previous State of Origin concept; however, the four (4) SA greyhounds will take on the four (4) best nominated greyhounds from anywhere in Australia.

This will provide another exciting dimension in what has proven to be a very successful format. With Covid-19 restrictions and border closures in place across Australia, opening up the series to all states (including Victoria) ensures the series will be conducted with a high-quality field.

Despite the removal of links to key Victorian races, GRSA will still guarantee the winner of the TAB Match Race Challenge direct entry into the $100,000 to the winner Group 1 Adelaide Cup Final on Friday, 8th October (bypassing the Adelaide Cup Heats).

Nominations close at 9am on Monday, 20th September with GRSA.

Conditions of the TAB Match Race Challenge – SA TAKES ON THE ALL-STARS:

The TAB Match Race Challenge – SA TAKES ON THE ALL-STARS, between South Australia and the All-Stars from the rest of Australia, will be held at the new Angle Park track on Thursday, 23rd September.

Eligibility as to who represents South Australia or All-Stars will be based around the National Championships domiciliary clause. Greyhounds need to be trained in the state they wish to represent for 76 days out of the last 150 days prior to the date of the race (23rd September).

The best four (4) greyhounds nominated from SA will be selected by the GRSA Grader to represent “SA’s Best”. The best four (4) greyhounds nominated from Interstate will be selected by the GRSA Grader to represent “the All-Stars”.

The Grader will use whatever information he has available to select those greyhounds including liaising with other State bodies as required. The SA Grader’s decision will be final.

Those greyhounds not selected from Interstate will be given the opportunity to solo trial or race in another event on the night. Reserves will be declared, with one (1) from SA and one (1) from Interstate (dependant on nominations), which will replace the SA or All-Stars representative as required. For example the SA reserve will only replace an SA scratching.

The Grader will rate the four (4) greyhounds from SA and the four (4) from Interstate in order from 1 to 4, with No.1 being the highest rated greyhound from each group. The head-to-head matches will be decided by the two No.1 rated greyhounds competing against each other and then it will be 2 v 2, 3 v 3 and 4 v 4.

Prizemoney for each individual match will also reflect the seeding of greyhounds from 1 to 4, with the No.1 rated greyhound’s racing for the most prizemoney in the head-to-head races. However, the overall winner of the race will still be determined on actual race times run by each greyhound (to three decimal places).

PRIZEMONEY:

Prizemoney for each pairing:

·         1 v 1 – Winner $4,750, Runner Up $500

·         2 v 2 – Winner $4,500, Runner Up $500

·         3 v 3 – Winner $4,250, Runner Up $500

·         4 v 4 – Winner $4,000, Runner Up $500

Prizemoney for the overall placings for TAB Match Race Challenge (based on overall times):

·         1st – $7,500

·         2nd – $2,500

·         3rd – $1,000

This year, with various borders closures impacting travel to SA and some states in lockdown, GRSA has determined that we be guided by SA Government advice for travel from each state.

If trainers from certain states can freely enter SA, GRSA will accept their nomination without further investigation. If trainers from states in lockdown or are subject to travel restrictions from entering SA, GRSA will accept their nomination only if they have approval from GRSA Stewards regarding:

1.       Where the greyhound will be kennelled in SA

2.       Who will have authority for the greyhound whilst in SA

3.       Evidence that the greyhound is travelling to SA by an approved freight company

Upon GRSA Stewards approval, these greyhounds can remain in the Interstate trainer’s name whilst they compete in SA feature events. This will be subject to review and change dependent on updated SA Government advice.

ANGLE PARK RETURN TO RACING – TRIAL SCHEDULE

With Angle Park now back on the race schedule, the trial schedule has reverted to –

  • Angle Park Tuesday night and Saturday/Sunday morning (depending on racing)
  • Gawler Monday morning and Friday morning (STAT)
  • Murray Bridge Wednesday night one turn, Monday morning on both tracks and Thursday on straight track. These sessions will be monitored depending on their support. STAT will be done on Wednesday nights for the one turn while the STAT for the Straight track will be done at race meetings where possible (less than 12 races). As we move towards daylight saving in October consideration will be to have STAT for the Straight track available on Wednesday nights.

MOUNT GAMBIER CROSS BORDER BUBBLE AT 70KM

We advise that the SA Government still have a 70km cross border bubble, therefore, only those trainers from Victoria with that exemption will have nominations accepted for upcoming Mt Gambier meetings, however, these directions do change regularly.

GRSA would be hopeful this changes soon to allow more of our Victorian friends across to support the South East venue. In the meantime the Club have been very appreciative of the support from the local trainers and those from Metro Adelaide ensuring none of their meetings have lost.

DAISH IRRIGATION & FODDER VOUCHERS FOR MURRAY BRIDGE

The Murray Bridge GRC has been able to secure some $100 vouchers from their sponsor Daish Irrigation & Fodder to be used on Heat and Final series’ over the next 12 months.  In the All Tracks calendar these races will be highlighted which is a terrific initiative of the Murray Bridge GRC.
