TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

It's FINAL NIGHT of the 2020 TAB Adelaide Cup, we have a quality night of racing with a 12 event programme and the CUP final is race 8 on tonight’s programme which carries $50,000 to the winner. The Troy Murray kennel have two very strong chances with their runners in Golden Night and Major Major, Catch The Thief has the perfect draw down in box 1 and we can not mention the Cameron Butchers flying machine Coorong Lucy who resumed here last week for a strong win. All races are Trifecta and First Four events and we have been on the front foot of late backing a few winners and tonight hopefully is no different. Good luck to all trainers and connections that have a runner in the Final it is certainly a great achievement.

Race 1 - Let’s hope we can kick the night off with an early winner and there is no better way to start the night with a 600 event, Couture has been in terrific form of late with three wins from his last five outings, he will be charging home and is drawn for a bold showing so we will put him on top. Dracarys has a good record over this trip and is amongst the main chances. Add Black Spring and Cawbourne Madox for our First Four. Box Up 1.2.7.8

Race 2 - Mercedes Monelli is dropping back to the sprint here, she was run down here last week over the 600m and should take a power of beating. Our Boy Wolf has been in terrific form of late with two strong wins around this circuit, he is the inform runner and is right in the mix. Elle Limes is making her city debut, she has solid form at Mt Gambier and is in the strong kennel of Tracie Price. Box Up 1.4.5.7

Race 3 - The inside three look the main chances in this, I lean towards Dyna Carnie who scorched the Mt Gambier circuit last start from box 2 in a BOD 29.52, he gets his chance and is very strong. Oakvale Elite is hit and miss on lid rise he will find this a lot easier than his past couple and should start the punters elect. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 4 - This is a wide open affair and winning form is good form so we will go with the Steven Brook trained Power Stone, he has won his last four all in quick times, he has the pace to lead and can handle the wide draw. Fantastic Shell returned to her best form with a smart win here last start, she will need to be at her best to cross the inside brigade. Springvale Vixen is a must for our Trifecta. Box Up 2.4.7.8

Race 5 - I love my distance racing and you wont get any better than this high class event ,the 2020 TAB Premiers Cup over the 731m, its hard to go past Sir Truculent he loves this venue and is by far the best stayer here in SA, he has had a light freshen up and is our top selection. Angry Trip and the speedy Miss Takiri are our value runners for the First Four both have early pace and can open up a handy break. Rajasthan will be running on and should figure in the finish. Box up 1.3.6.7

Race 6 - Rushes was a massive run here last week in a heat of the Cup when flashing home from midfield to run 2nd in slick time, he loves a wide draw and will take a power of beating. Coorong Nugget has been ultra-consistent of late and appears a big chance from a good draw, he is capable of running quick times when out in front. Add Kipling who has been hit and miss on box rise of late. Box Up 2.3.6.8

Race 7 - Alfieri should start the punters elect, he has been knocking on the door until being blown away here last week when a well beaten 7th behind Taken. From the rails draw and the small field he gets his chance. American Man is the value runner, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him jump to the front, he is very strong and has been in the money at his last seven outings. Zipping Ted and Ask Me Now for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 8 - This is the FINAL of the 2020 TAB Adelaide CUP and with $50,000 going to the winner it is certainly going to be a great race. Golden Night is my pick for the Troy Murray kennel, this dog has been humming along in recent weeks and carved out 29.37 here last week in the heats to win by over 7 lengths, he has good box speed and should cross straight to the fence and prove hard to beat. Catch The Thief has poll position, he made his way straight to tonight’s final by winning the Match Race series, he trialled here in quick time between races last week in 29.33 and will prove very hard to beat with clear running. Taken will be the BIG improver, he had very good support and proved to strong when winning in a slick 29.35, he has a ton of pace drawn on his inside but cant be overlooked. Major Major will be at double figure odds, he has won his last six including the SA Derby Final, he flew the lids here in his heat and won by over 8 lengths, don’t be surprised if he salutes from the wide draw. Box Up 1.2.6.7

Race 9 - The Ben Rawlings kennel rarely go home without a winner and they have a strong chance with More More More in this, he showed pace at big odds here last week in tough company only to fade in the run, he is well down in grade tonight and is drawn for a bold showing.  Lenny The Jet is a strong type and a win wouldn’t surprise, he is another who drops in grade and is a must for our Trifecta. Add Sky Wesley who has won 3 of his last five. Box up 1.2.4.5

Race 10 - Danyo’s Charlie didn’t have any luck here last week in the heats, he looks the likely leader and will prove very hard to beat tonight. Toora Ziggy has won his past two, he can be awkward on lid rise but is very strong, he will be thundering home late. Love And Thunder can add a bit of value and Aston Silk must be kept safe. Box Up 2.5.7.8

Race 11 - Fake Forecast has only had the ten starts for two wins and a couple of placings, he won here in 30.05 last month and from the gun draw should take beating. Invincibility is a tardy beginner, she is a handy type who is more than capable of showing up. Shamrock Lava is a chance at each way odds, he gets a chance to cross from his wide draw and cant be left out of calculations. Box Up 1.4.7.8

Race 12 - This is last race on a huge night of racing so let’s hope we can go home on a winner with the Kenny Gill trained Rugged And Ready out in box 7, he was a last winner at Gawler from a wide draw and looks very hard to beat in this. Oakvale Blue is back to the sprint tonight, he will be doing his best work late as will Halfeti Rose. Box Up 1.2.4.7

BOXING FOR FEATURE FINALS

GRSA advises that the boxing procedure for feature Heats and Finals will revert back to 2 rows effective immediately where applicable.

GRSA will continue to monitor these processes.

KURT DONSBERG ON THE INTERVIEW ROUNDS

GRSA is happy to advise that on course photographer Kurt Donsberg has added another string to his bow by doing some pre-race and post-race interviews with trainers which will be published on social media adding extra exposure for our industry.

He is mainly doing this for upcoming feature races. The interviews will be a couple of quick questions and last for about 30 seconds just to give an extra insight at the race meeting which GRSA fully supports.

2020 GAWLER CUP CARNIVAL KICKS OF ON FRIDAY 16TH OCTOBER

The Gawler Gold Cup carnival will be run over four meetings this year.

The Gawler GRC has been in consultation with the Thoroughbreds and Harness in the region and has made a mini carnival with all three codes running their main races for the year around the same time. It does mean however the series for the greyhound’s kicks of a week earlier than normal and extends to four meetings.

The carnival will kick off on Friday, 16th October with Heats of the Gawler Sprint Classic for open 400m greyhounds. The Final will be worth $5,715 and will be run on Gawler Gold Cup night, Sunday 25th October.

On Monday night, 19th October the $2,290 Heats for the Group 3 Gawler Gold Cup will be run over the 531m. The meeting will be run as a night Prov 1 meeting swapping with Angle Park which will run their City B meeting on Tuesday during the day.

STRAIGHT TRACK TRIALS TO BE INCLUDED ON TUESDAY NIGHTS AT MURRAY BRIDGE

GRSA will now start trialling on the Straight Track at Murray Bridge on Tuesday nights.

This will provide an opportunity for those trainers wishing to nominate for the Wednesday meetings. Trials on Tuesday night will now start at 5.30pm with Straight Track trials, no bookings required and participants must be at the track by 5.45pm. The One Turn circle will start at the conclusion of the Straight Track, approximately 6.00pm, with bookings required as normal.

It is encouraged for trainers wishing to race on Wednesday that they consider trialling first down the Straight.

277M FOR MT GAMBIER UNTIL 305M INSTALLED

After consultation with the Mt Gambier GRC, GRSA have approved the re-introduction of 277m effective immediately, however, they will cease when a new distance of 305m is made available, hopefully by the middle of November.

The Club believes a short course distance will assist their greyhound numbers in the region and allow the club to continue to meet nomination requirements.

There will only be two 277m races introduced effective immediately, one for young Maiden greyhounds with the youngest greyhounds gaining entry first based on age. There will also be a Masters 277m with eligible greyhounds being select on age with the oldest given first preference. Masters conditions will be the same as races conducted in the Metro area with greyhounds 3¾ years and above eligible.

GRSA strongly recommends trainers nominate for multiple distances to ensure they do not miss out on a run at the meeting.

SATURDAY MORNING FORTNIGHTLY MEETINGS

We recently introduced the fortnightly Saturday morning meeting at Angle Park and to accommodate this meeting through our weekly schedule we made some changes to the number of races run during and after this meeting at other venues.

We have changed to all G-SIX except for feature and specific races, moved the Wednesday meetings to be back to back Straight track and then Angle Park on a 3 week rotation. We have also made the Saturday morning meetings Time Graded with alternate conditions as this is the biggest group or greyhounds, with programming crucial to accommodate the weekly schedule.

The next meeting will be Saturday, 17th October

Timed Graded Meeting-“Best to Worst” 5 rating or slower. Greyhounds graded into 3 categories. Maidens, 1-4 wins & 5 or more wins. Specific grades of greyhounds are not considered except for Maidens.
