Angle Park Preview - 9th January 2020

We kicked off the year in handy form but there is plenty of room for improvement and with 11 events tonight we should be able to finish on the right side of the ledger, the highlight of tonight’s programme are the 3 strong heats of the SA Sprint races 2-4 and there appears to be a bit of value with a upset or two. Don’t forget all races are Trifecta and first Four events…

Race 1 - This is a toughie to kick the night off with the main chances looking to be the ultra-consistent Right Exit who keeps finding one better and Another Clanger who is another in the same category placing in 11 of her 18 starts. Top Right will be running on late. Box Up 2.4.5.6

Race 2 - The 1^st of the SA Sprint heats where Cairnlea Ebony who was a outstanding run here last start when winning by 8 lengths in a slick 29.62 looks the one to beat. Pandhandle Slim and It's A Riot from box 1 and 2 respectively will be pushing her all the way. Box Up 1.2.5.4

Race 3 - The book ends are the main chances in this one - the pacey Coorong Lucy and Alfieri who has won 4 of his past 5 here all in top company. We will stick with Coorong Lucy as she might be able to pinch this from her rails draws. Fly For Fun has early pace and can figure in our First Four along with Oakvale Magic who is very strong. Box Up 1.5.7.8

Race 4 - Aston Chandon has come up with a gun draw and loves this circuit! She is very strong and looks the one to beat. Diamond Heart led everywhere bar the post here last start when 2^nd to Alfieri, she hasn’t drawn well but recent racing suggest she can run another cheeky race. Bailey Rocks and Firetail can fill the top Four. Box Up 1.5.7.8.

Race 5 - This is the 600m race of the evening and we will go with the Ben Rawlings trained Miss Takiri who was a last start winner here in quick time. She has the pace to lead and is strong. Holy Reign is the big danger and she should be punching up early on the fence and is another who is strong home. Add Dyna Alice for value. Box up 1.2.3.6

Race 6 - Springvale Jorja jumped straight to the front here last week and won in good style recording a 29.85 win. She looks to have a bright future and is our top pick in this. Hot Desert Storm will appreciate this grade and is boxed for a bold showing along with Feelin' who has strong broken Hill form. Box Up 1.2.3.5

Race 7 - The Don Foster chaser Boss McLaren is well drawn in this. He hasn’t been that far away in recent starts and is ready to break through. Oakvale Elite is the form runner with 3 wins from his last 5 and is the main danger. He has a terrific strike rate and is a smart youngster. Power Burner and Sols Buddy for the minors.  Box Up 1.3.4.5.

Race 8 - Oakvale Warrior can return to the winners circle tonight, he has been struggling of late and is a lot better than form suggests. What A Wish can run a cheeky race from the draw, she doesn’t win many but knows how to fill a place. Unsound Mind is a newcomer and won at sale from a wide draw 3 runs back in BON 29.86, he is certainly worth keeping an eye on his debut. Box Up 1.2.6.8

Race 9 - I like one in this at good each way odds - Nirimba Pirate. He returned to his best with a smart 29.93 win here last week winning by over 10lengths, he has the pace to lead again and would take beating if he does. Surfing Dyno has been racing well, loves this draw and is amongst the main chances. Box Up 1.3.4.8.

Race 10 - This is the distance affair of the night and its very hard to go past Zipping Galon. He won here last week in a slick 43.02 and the small field suits - he will be very short. Cawbourne Terry can run into the placings along with Sale Graze Bindi. 1 from 5.3.7.

Race 11 - Its always good to go home on a winner and McLaren Dazzler can do that for us at each way odds! He won here 4 runs ago in 29.87 and that will be good enough to win this. Jervois Boy has terrific Gawler form and is the value runner for our Trifecta along with Westrock Outlaw. Box up 2.5.6.8.

Bargain Steel Centre SA Sprint Championship heats tonight 

A big night of racing ahead at Angle Park with three heats of the SA Sprint title being run.

The heats are race 2,3 and 4 on the program with the first heat jumping at 6:58pm with a great field featuring Panhandle Slim, Its A Riot and Cairnlea Ebony. Heat 2 sees a very strong field of SA chasers with Coorong Lucy, Fly For Fun and Alfieri lining up against each other while heat 3 features Aston Chandon, Diamond Heart and Bailey Rocks amongst the leading chances.

Heat 2 (Race 3 - 7:22pm)

The box draw for the final on Thursday 16th January will be conducted on-course after race 5.

John Gray heats next Thursday night

The time honored John Gray series will be held in January with $3,855 heats run on Thursday, 16th January and the $11,435 final on Thursday, 23rd January.

The series is for Grade 5 greyhounds over the 515m journey.

GRSA ANIMAL WELFARE ALERT -  GASTROINTESTINAL ILLNESS

Greyhound Racing SA (GRSA) is notifying participants of a recent outbreak interstate of gastrointestinal illness amongst the greyhound population.  Whilst GRSA is not currently aware of any cases in this state, participants are reminded about the need to closely monitor the health of greyhounds in their care and ensure that good kennel hygiene is practised at all times.

Trainers are advised to monitor their greyhounds for the two most common signs of gastroenteritis, those being vomiting and diarrhea. Additional signs to watch for include:

• Dehydration due to fluid loss through vomiting or diarrhea
• Blood in vomit or faeces
• Nausea
• Depression
• Lethargy
• Loss of appetite

Participants who suspect a greyhound of having any gastrointestinal issues should immediately isolate the greyhound, disinfect their kennels and contact their veterinarian for advice. For more information, please contact the Integrity Department. 

Mount Gambier Satisfactory Trials

Trainers are advised of a change to the booking of Satisfactory Trials at Mt. Gambier.  Mt Gambier hold trials on Tuesday and Saturday mornings with Satisfactory trials ONLY being conducted on Tuesdays and need to be booked with Barry Shepheard from the Club on 0419 824 512. 

At Race meetings Satisfactory trials can be done when less than 12 races.  When there are 12 races these can be considered, however, the trainer will not be able to kennel and must take their greyhounds home straight after the trial. These race day trials will also need to be booked through Barry at the Club. GRSA administration staff will NOT accept these bookings and trainers will be directed to contact Barry Shepheard.

Time Graded and Pathway Events (For All Events)

The GRSA Racing Department wishes to advise of an update to the process of allocating reserves for Time Grading (worst-to-best) meetings.

Currently the Time Grading methodology does not allow for the allocation of reserves to the majority of races, therefore increasing the likelihood of reduced field sizes.

Under the new methodology, greyhounds will be grouped into races according to their Time Rating, including the reserves:

•        8 greyhounds for G-SIX racing (6 in the field plus 2 reserves)

•       10 greyhounds for traditional 8 dog racing (8 in the field plus 2 reserves)

A random draw will then be conducted to determine the two reserve greyhounds.

If only one race then reserves as per Time Rating Rankings. This process is demonstrated in a table available on the GRSA website and Kennel Capers. 

This change will be implemented for all Time Grading meetings from 1st January, 2020.

Changes to Mount Gambier Time Grading from January 2020

After consultation with industry and local participants from the Mt Gambier region GRSA will trial a Best to Worst format for the Mt Gambier Thursday meetings in January 2020. With 5 meetings in that month the normal Worst to Best meetings will be on 2^nd, 16^th and 30^th January. The Best to Worst format will be on 9^th and 23^rd January. GRSA has made this change to accommodate the strong support or nominations for this venue and attempting to give all greyhounds of all abilities the opportunity to compete.

Conditions for the Best to Worst meetings will be based on the greyhounds Time Rating. There will be a limit of 5 as to how fast a greyhound can be rated. Greyhounds rated 4.75 to 1 will not be eligible for this meeting but will be given preference into the Sunday meeting of that week so long as they nominate and there is a race available. Under this format GRSA will be able to include reserves for all races under the dissection of the grader. The more than 50% of fastest rated greyhound eligibility clause will not refer to Best to Worst Time Graded events.
