 ANGLE PARK PREVIEW - 7th January 2021

TELLING THE TAIL

By The Shadow

We certainly have a terrific night of racing ahead of us tonight with two strong heats of the 2021 SA Sprint Championships, races 5 and 6 on the programme. We also have a smart 731m early in the night and a 600m which looks very open as always, all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1Ragin’ Reign is the form runner, she has won three from her last five and looks hard top beat. Zipping Cola and Miss Fab Focus for the placings.  Box Up 2.7.8.9

Race 2 - This is the Maiden of the night and we will stick with Zinfandel Dusty, he looks to be a handy type in the making and finished 2nd here last start after showing early pace, he should only be improved by the run. Spring Bud and Apache Jakit can fill the placings. Box Up 1.2.4.6

Race 3 - This is the distance affair and the champ in Sir Truculent had his colours lowered when a battling 3rd here last week behind the much-improved Line Seeker ,the wide draw suits tonight and the Wally Harkins performer can bounce back. Line Seeker is in outstanding form he is a big chance again on recent efforts. Box Up 2. 4.6.8

Race 4 - Bedrock Fred was impressive when winning here last week in 30.21, he handles a wide draw and can only keep improving. Add You Magic Girl and Victa Emma for the placings. Box Up 2.4.7.9

Race 5 - This is the 1st heat of the SA Sprint, and we see the return of Shadow Mist, he has been travelling far and wide and recently made the final of the Hobart Thousand. He equalled the Murray Bridge track record back in November and is sure to prove hard to beat. Rushes is certainly the danger, he won here two starts back in a slick 29.55, he is drawn for a forward showing. Add Jacks Well and the pacey Air Marshall for the First Four. Box Up 1.4.5.7

Race 6 - The 2nd of the SA heats and Major Major has come up with a perfect draw, he returned to the winner’s circle with a nice win here last start in a BON 29.85 and will be amongst the main chances. Coorong Lucy has resumed with two wins over the short, she is a class act when on song and she has won over this trip in 29.46 and can’t be left out of calculations. Major Havoc and Springvale Anna can fill the minors. Box Up 1.4.7.8

Race 7 - Like A Librarian loves this draw, he has won two of his last three from the rails and is hard to tip against. Under Study will be working home, she can be tardy away but should get a clear run from the draw. Peter Lee can add some value for our First Four he is another who handles an inside draw and should be at big odds. Box up 1.2.3.4

Race 8 - This is a more than handy 600m of the night and the punters elect will be Vontae Mack out in box six for the Ben Rawlings kennel, he is a big strong type who has won here in the past in 35.13, he is hit and miss early and hopefully stays out of early trouble. Raylene Bale should be at each way value, she is dropping back tonight from the 731m and will be right in the finish. Box Up 1.2.6.7

Race 9 - Blister is working towards a win, he looked the winner on the home turn here at his latest run when 2nd behind Buddy Guy in 30.10, he has the pace to lead and is our top pick. Helen’s Teddy has only had the three SA runs and hasn’t missed a cheque, she looks one of the dangers. Yarindale and Danyo’s Gretta can run the First Four. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 10 - Here is my ROUGHIE of the night Rock It Fabio?? Why, she is knocking on the door with three 2nds, she can handle a wide draw and is a chance of crossing the inside brigade. Dakota Dart won from this draw three runs back in 30.07, he is the danger. Box Up 1.2.5.7

Race 11 - American Man gets his chance to break through, he only needs an ounce of luck early and would prove very hard to beat. Joe's Gold will be powering home, he was a last winner here over the 600m and is a must for the Trifecta, add Ashby Mayhem and Dissociative. Box up 1.2.4.7

MOUNT GAMBIER TO RACE TWICE A WEEK FROM JANUARY

With Victorian trainers now eligible to nominate for Mt Gambier this will allow the resumption of two weekly race meetings per week at Mount Gambier with both Thursday and Sunday meetings being included in the Sky schedule this month.

The Thursday meetings will be Time Graded events (Maidens, 1-4 wins and 5 + wins) with only 400m plus events programmed and the Sunday meetings will be the normal Graded meetings with the new 305m distance included under specific conditions.

With the resumption of two weekly meetings from the beginning of January 2021, GRSA will revert the prizemoney levels at Mount Gambier back to the current Category 3 levels with a movement back to 6-SIX across both meetings where possible

305M START AT MT GAMBIER FROM 24TH JANUARY

It is anticipated that the 305m start will come into effect at Mt Gambier on Sunday 24th January.

The club will program Maiden Heats on the 24th over 305m sponsored by Razza Racing, open to all Maiden greyhounds of any age. They will then progress to the final on Sunday 31st January with the club appreciative of the sponsorship.

The club will then revert back to normal conditions that they had for the 277m for the 305m with -

Only two 305m races on Sundays, one for young Maiden greyhounds with the youngest greyhounds gaining entry first based on age. There will also be a Masters 305m with eligible greyhounds being selected on age with the oldest given first preference. Masters conditions is the same as races conducted in the Metro area with greyhounds 3¾ years and above eligible. (Masters can start on 31st January if sufficient nominations)

GRSA and the Mt Gambier GRC strongly recommend trainers nominate for multiple distances to ensure they do not miss out on a run at any meeting.

It is anticipated the 732m start will be available from 11th February.

Any changes to this schedule will be communicated to the industry via the normal channels.

TRANSITION TO ONLINE NOMINATIONS

GRSA has been extremely appreciative of ICG panelist, Christine Costa, who has made herself available and spoken to those trainers needing some guidance with the online process over the last few weeks. She has gone out of her way to assist her fellow participants and now GRSA will be in touch shortly to assist with the processes they require.

The ICG and GRP panel members are happy to assist any trainer who requires some assistance in transitioning; along with GRSA staff, so please do not hesitate to contact any person as the process is reasonably straight forward.

CHANGES TO WEIGHTED POINTS SCORE FOR SOUTH AUSTRALIA

Greyhound Racing SA advise changes to the Weighted Point Score Table for SA Grading.

Based on the most recent Grading Review Panel meeting the Grading Department have made changes to the points allocation for the WPS. This is the first part of changes approved by the GRP for implementation and will be effective immediately.

The main changes are –

  • The Maiden points for category CTA, CTB, PR1 have now been slightly increased and tiered
  • All placegetters 7th and 8th are allocated 6th place points to accommodate the mix of G-SIX and 8 – dog Quad racing in SA

Please refer to the updated table on the GRSA website.

GRSA is still working with Ozchase for race classification for Time Graded and Pathway events along with the changes approved for the Order of Preference.

SOME ITEMS FROM GRP

The items below come from the recent Grading Review Panel meeting with an implementation date advised. There are other items from the meeting that are currently in the process of being changed and an implementation date will then be determined.

Mixed Masters – Grading

It was recommended to the panel that if a Mixed Masters is programmed the Grade 5 dogs will be mixed if there is Grade 4 and Grade 3 dogs linking together like normal grading. If there are Grade 2 and 3 dogs and then Grade 5 dogs only a Grade 5 Masters will be conducted under normal conditions as these cannot be linked. If there is enough to run a high grade Mixed Masters (ie Grade 2/3 & 4) we will do that and not include Grade 5 unless they nominate specifically for this programmed event. Effective immediately

Policy Interstate Greyhounds - Summary of change’s for the greyhounds career

Interstate greyhounds racing in SA for the first time will be Grade 5 at all tracks and distances, unless they meet the following criteria, which would then see them, being upgraded to Grade 4 at all tracks and distances:

  • 5+ metropolitan full stakes wins
  • $75,000 in prizemoney

Interstate greyhounds racing in SA for the first time and meet the following criteria, will be upgraded to Grade 3 at all tracks and distances:

  • Group 1 & 2 winners over a similar distance in the past 6 months

The grader has ultimate discretion in applying the above upgrade rule, and may choose to keep a greyhound at Grade 5 level if one or more of the following apply:

  • The form of the greyhound is poor enough to warrant it remaining at Grade 5
  • The greyhound is a masters greyhound (4yo+)
  • The distance the greyhound is nominating for is outside the greyhound’s normal distance range

Greyhounds that have left SA to race interstate to race for 3 months or more, will be subject to the above upgrade rules upon their return. However any grade that was established at a particular track and distance prior to their departure from SA will be retained in the last 6 months.

This will replace the greyhounds winning a Metro Grade policy for assessment in SA.

This will not affect the Grade 6 policy

Effective from nominations closing on Monday 4th January 2021
