Racing News

It looks a very tough night on the punt, but in saying that it’s a night where we can back a couple of winners at handy odds. The kennel to watch again is the HIGH FLYING Cameron Butcher team who just keep on producing winner after winner and I do like a roughie later in the night.

Race 1 and this is a very open event to kick the night off as it has several chances.  The good each way bet for mine is He’s A Villian who is very well drawn and will be flying home over the last 100m, but the main chance looks to be the Wendy Matcott Yakamov Bale down in box 1.  He can kick up early and will be hard to beat.  The pace will come from Blurred Lines but he can be hit and miss early. Box Up 1.3.4.7.

Race 2, there are 2 chances for mine, they look to be Shana Allen and Lektra Stolly.  Both have different racing styles and both certainly win this event.  Add in the Kim Johnstone trained Velocity Tina and that should be the trifecta.  Box Up 1.4.6.

Race 3 and here is one at a bit of value and that is the Petar Jovanovic trained Pawesome Boss.  He should appreciate this company and if able to lead will make his presence felt.  Buttsy’s Bandit will start the punters elect along with Mirror Bale.  Box Up 1.2.4.5.

Race 4 and this is the race when the Butcher kennel kicks off, they have 2 very strong chances in Coorong Kid who has won his past 4 here and Worm Burner who has won his past 4 all at this venue. On form they should the Quinella and add the pacey Gun McBain and we have the trifecta.  Box Up 1.2.4.7.

Race 5 and the Robyn Mackellar kennel is another who is in form and they have a more than handy one in Tinker Bell.  She does her best when drawn closer to the fence but here should be able to spear across from the wide draw and salute. Regal Looper will be rattling home late along with Star Boost who should be near the front.  Box Up 3.4.6.7.

Race 6 and it is very hard to go past She’s A Looper.  She has returned to form with two slick wins here and at Gawler and with her early pace she should be the measuring stick so she is our standout in this.  So let’s go with 1 from 2.5.7.Boxed.

The 7th and if we are losing by now we have to jump on the well named CONQUER FEAR, the more we put on the more we win (Gamble responsibly),  forget his last start when 8th here from the same draw, he was checked from pillar to post and can bounce back in this.  We can add in Dyna Quote and the pacey Black Bottle.  Box Up 3.4.5.6.

The 8th and its very rarely the Ben Rawlings kennel goes home without a winning cheque and Liam’s Entity can bounce back into the winners circle, especially after his win here two runs back in a sensational 29.57.  He is our top pick, Fusaichi Kahn is another who has a good turn of early pace along with Sunday Shoes, who is resuming from a lengthy spell.  Box Up 2.6.7.8.

Race 9 and this is a 600m event with 5 starters, so the odds should be very skinny on three of them and they are the stand outs, so we will box them up 2.6.8. But I do like Barleys Rhythm as she loves this trip and will be the better price of the other two.

The final event race 10 and this is my roughie of the night in a VERY open affair.  All 8 could win on a particular night and that is Full Bogan, he has been racing well at Gawler and prior to last start hadn’t missed a placed in four runs so we can’t leave him out of calculations.   Dyna Beta and McLaren Missile are major players.  Box Up 1.2.4.5.

LOCAL NEWS

SHEEZA NITRO MAKES THE RAZLDAZL LAUNCHING PAD SERIES NEXT WEEK

The Cameron Butcher trained Sheeza Nitro won last weeks SA Series of the 2016 Razldazl Launching Pad at Angle Park. She then stepped out again on Monday night and won.

She will now take her spot in the Razldazl Launching Pad heats next Thursday night at Sandown. The heats will be run over the 515m on Thursday 10th March, with semi finals on Thursday 17th March with the $220,000 final run on Thursday 24th March. Good luck to Cameron, Sheeza Nitro and her connections.

HUKANUI TO TRIAL FOR GROUP 2 LAUNCHING PAD TONIGHT

The Tony Rasmussen trained chaser Hukanui will trial tonight in between races in preparation for the Heats of the Group 2 Razldazl Launching Pad next Thursday night at Sandown. He is a winner of 6 of his 21 starts and was unable to compete in the local series due to his race wins, if he wins one more race he would be ineligible for the series. He apparently excited connections with a trial at Sandown last week so it will be great to see another SA representative at Sandown next Thursday night.

Hukanui will trial in between races 4 and 5 tonight.

2016 CLASSIC BET MOUNT GAMBIER CUP FINAL

Good luck to Mount Gambier on Sunday with the running of the 2016 Classic Bet Mt Gambier Cup Final. The club ran 7 fabulous heats last week and has drawn together a terrific field to be run on Sunday. Locally bred and Victorian trained Mojito Mayhem was the fastest qualifier running a sizzling 29.67. With a few locals from the South East, a few locals from Adelaide and interstate flavour the final should be one race not to be missed.

Other heat winners were Old Jock (29.75), Grimsby Girl (30.07), Caustic Bale (29.95), Wave To Kirra (30.05), Menzel Boys (29.73) and Fluke Of Fantasy (29.96). Final field listed below –

The $10,000 2016 Classic Bet Mount Gambier Cup Final ($7,000 to the winner) will be run as race 9 at 2.19pm with dual simulcast on Sky Racing 1 and 2.

There are two consolations of the Cup run as races 4 and 5 with the $2,000 The Produce Store Maiden Final run as race 3. There is also a $1,500 Formula 400 Open Feature (400m) run as race 7 and the $2,200 The Fireball Open Series Final to be run as race 6 over the 600m.

Racing kicks off at 11.40am, with the last of 12 races to jump at 3.46pm with selected races covered on Sky Racing 1 & 2.

MOUNT GAMBIER TO JOIN “PATHWAY” FOR GRADE 5 EVENTS

With the growing support for “Pathway” Racing the Mt Gambier GRC have advised that they wish to join the trial currently being conducted. With very strong nominations down the South East the club is keen to see what the results would be for their Grade 5 events where it seems some greyhounds are missing out on opportunities. The trial will be run under the same conditions as both Angle Park Wednesday and Gawler on Sunday however it will be for all their meetings starting from 11th March. As from the 1st April these races will also be under flattened stakes conditions for another 3 months. These races are for Grade 5 greyhounds however Grade 6 greyhounds can be considered if nominated for these events. Trainers must specifically nominate when the flattened stakes are introduced.

BREEDERS 2016 PRELUDE (1) HEATS

Prelude (1) of Breeders 2016 will be run on Wednesday, 16th March at Angle Park. The Series is for all greyhounds eligible for Breeders 2016. The Final will be run on Thursday, 24th March. Prizemoney will be determined after nominations close.

  • Nominations close Friday 11th March with GRSA at 9.00am

ST PATRICK’S DAY SPRINT ON MARCH 17

St. Patrick’s Day is not that far away and neither is the feature sprint held at Angle Park worth $4,415. The race will be on Thursday 17th March run over the 515m and open to the best greyhounds nominated.

Another feature on the night will be Heats of the Mixed 3/4/5 Easter Cup to be run over 600m.

*Nominations close on Friday 11th March at 9.00am with GRSA.

STRATHALBYN APPROVAL FOR 11 RACES

In support of participation at Strathalbyn and with good nominations each meeting GRSA has approved the running of 11 races at each race meeting so long as there are sufficient nominations to do so. If 11 races are programmed then there will be no trials during the race meeting due to insufficient kennel space.

PAPERWORK MUST BE COMPLETED!

It is a requirement of GRSA that all paperwork lodged must be correctly completed. It is the responsibility of the participant to ensure all signatures are included and completed. For all varieties of paperwork whether it be licence applications, breeding forms, prizemoney details or transfer of ownership etc please ensure it is all completed prior to lodging with GRSA.

PATHWAY RACING FLATTENED STAKES

With Pathway Racing in full swing the first three months of the trial will end this month. From the 1st April the next three months will commence with FLATTENED STAKEMONEY. The tables listed below highlight the difference in prizemoney levels.

It is extremely important that trainers MUST nominate for the Pathway Races with such a difference in prizemoney. If you do not nominate for these events you cannot be considered.
