Racing News

In recent weeks it has been one particular kennel that have had a terrific night with their runners,  but tonight for me it appears a lot more open  11event programme. The Cameron Butcher brigade rarely leaves the city track without a winner as does the Rasmussen kennel so we can’t overlook their charges tonight.  The rest of the night looks fairly open so it makes for a terrific night of racing and punting.

Race 1 and we will open up with Worm Burner out in box 8.  He always looked the winner here last week when he lobbed 3rd into the back and powered away to score in a slick 29.57 so he is our stand out in this.  We can add in Bianca Bale down in box 1 along with Fast Noodle.  8 from 1.2.7 Boxed.

Race 2 and winning form is good form so we will go with Fabregal who has won her last two, both in quick times here and at Gawler.  She has a good turn of early pace so she will be in front early.  Another quick beginner is Paddy MacBain out in box 8.  He is very smart when on song and is a must for the trifecta’s.  Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 3, Alderley Reform loves this draw and can bounce back from box 1 tonight.  He has the polish of veteran trainer Terry Cahalan and should be handy early and prove too strong in the run home.  Another who will improve is the Wendy Matcott trained Ifrit Bale, he has been very unlucky in his past couple and will be right in the mix.  Box Up 1.3.6.8.

Race 4 and how good is this race, we see some smart youngster’s and none other than Jacqui Blax who looks to have a very big future.  She has a perfect record from her two starts and has broken the 30 sec barrier on both occasions.   Lethal Fury can add some value for the trifecta as does Flash Of Hope.  Box Up 1.3.6.7.

This is a 600m affair and it appears a race in two, but as all punters know there are no certainties but regardless of that, I am making them a stand out.   Abbie’s Girl and Parsec Bale are the main two, both are in great form and should be right in the finish.  We can add in Barleys Rhythm and Billy Blue Eyes for a lot of value.  Box Up 1.3.7.8.

Race 6 and the main two runners are Cash In Looper and Zana Bale.  Both can be hit and miss early but they are very strong in the run home and it is hard to see them missing a place.  Lucy Fergo should also get home hard for the trifecta.  Box Up 1.5.6.8.

Race 7 and the book ends are the main chances and the run to the 1st turn will tell the story.  I am going with Its Classified out in box 8, as he should be whipping around them early.  Mrs Bubbles is a class act and hasn’t missed a cheque in her last 5 starts here at headquarters.   Box Up 1.6.7.8.

Race 8 and this is a quality affair with a heap of chances.  The favourite should come from either Oakvale Flyer or Conquer Fear.  Both are very smart on their night and they will be hard to beat, BUT I am going out wide looking for value and I’m tipping Regal Looper , who is in fine form, he can be very hit and miss but when on song will give this a big shake at good each way odds.  Box Up 1.3.5.7

Race 9, The Murray kennel is another who rarely goes home without a winner and they should salute with the pacey Aston Gatum from box 4.  He has the early burn to lead and looks a special for mine.  Add in Cee Cee Quoted out in box 7 who will be rattling home late.  Box Up 1.2.4.7.

The 10th and Footrot Fitz has a good turn of early pace and is drawn well down in box 1 and will be very hard to beat.  He has won 3 of his last 4 starts all in good times.  Better Be can be hit and miss on box rise and is when down on the rails but she might be the Smokey with a clear run and good odds.  Box Up 1.5.7.8.

Race 11 and Mathew Payne has a very handy one in Brando Brown, his past two starts has resulted in two quick wins and there is no reason why he won’t make it 3 on the trot from box 6.  Banker Bale and Inga Bale can fill the places.  Box Up 3.4.5.6.

LOCAL NEWS

THE RAZLDAZL LAUNCHING PAD FINAL TONIGHT (LOCAL SERIES)

After we saw two heats of the Razldazl Launching last Wednesday with the first four from each heat qualifying for tonights $4,415 final it looks an interesting race on paper. The unfortunate scratching of up and coming star Jacqui Blax for illness has robbed the race of a little bit of interest however with the likes of McLaren Chief, Flash Of Hope and Lethal Fury engaged, the final will be very competitive.

The winner of tonights final will take their spot in the rich Launching Pad heats in two weeks’ time. The heats will be run at Sandown over the 515m on Thursday 10th March, the semi finals on Thursday 17th March with the $220,000 final run on Thursday 2nd April.  Good luck to all connections tonight.

CLASSIC BET MOUNT GAMBIER CUP HEATS THIS WEEKEND

The Mount Gambier Cup series kicks off this Sunday with an outstanding 12 event program.

There are three heats of the Produce Store Feature Maiden with the first two and two fastest thirds qualifying for the $2,000 final next Sunday 6th March. There are two terrific heats of the Fireball 600m series with some high quality middle distance performers engaged where the first 4 past the post in each heat will qualify for the $2,200 final.

There are seven outstanding Classic Bet Mt Gambier Cup heats on the program where it will be cut throat to make it through to the $10,000 final next Sunday. Only the winners and the fastest second will qualify so the racing will be tight and competitive. The club would be wrapped with the class of nominations received from trainers with the likes of Lisa & Tony Rasmussen, Ben Rawlings, Michael Stewart, Lauren Harris, Kevin Murnane and Don Turner all making the trip from Adelaide, a raft of Victorian trainers including Rob Britton, Peter Hubbard, Jeff Guy and Peter Franklin with top chances engaged and all the local South East trainers make for an exciting series.

Next Sunday 6th March will not only feature the Classic Mount Gambier Cup Final, The Fireball 600m Final and The Produce Store Maiden Final it will also feature the $1,500 Formula 400 Best 8 over the 400m. Consolations of the Mt Gambier Cup and Maiden will add to another bumper program.

MOUNT GAMBIER TO JOIN “PATHWAY” FOR GRADE 5 EVENTS

With the growing support for “Pathway” Racing the Mt Gambier GRC have advised that they wish to join the trial currently being conducted. With very strong nominations down the South East the club is keen to see what the results would be for their Grade 5 events where it seems some greyhounds are missing out on opportunities. The trial will be run under the same conditions as both Angle Park Wednesday and Gawler on Sunday however it will be for all their meetings starting from 11th March. As from the 1st April these races will also be under flattened stakes conditions for another 3 months. These races are for Grade 5 greyhounds however Grade 6 greyhounds can be considered if nominated for these events.

AGRC SPONSORING PORT AUGUSTA – MARCH 5
The next twilight meeting at Port Augusta is on Saturday 5th March sponsored by Adelaide Greyhound Racing Club where they have put an extra $750 towards the meeting.

Feature races on the night are the 503m AGRC Sprint and "Kevin & Gerry Webb" Open 447m Stake.  There will also be heats over the 447m for Grade 5 and Maiden greyhounds. The club will run a 591m event if there are sufficient nominations. A big thank you to Gavin Harris from the AGRC for his support in co-ordinating this meeting and we look forward to seeing everyone there.

STRATHALBYN APPROVAL FOR 11 RACES

In support of participation at Strathalbyn and with good nominations each meeting GRSA has approved the running of 11 races at each race meeting so long as there are sufficient nominations to do so.

If 11 races are programmed then there will be no trials during the race meeting due to insufficient kennel space.
