Angle Park Preview

Racing News

The major highlight of tonight’s programme is the 2 outstanding semis of the SA St Leger which are race 6 and 7. Both semis have some outstanding talent but at the same time don’t be surprised if there is an upset at reasonable odds so it’s a must for First 4 punters.

Race 1 and it’s been a tough week on the punt so we can turn things around quickly with a winner in this and I like Fusaichi Kahn.  He is dropping back in grade and will be hard to hold out.   Footrot Fantasia is a pacey type who is well drawn along with Liam’s Entity for the trifecta.  Box Up 1.2.4.6.

Race 2, we will go with the pacey Wilba Beast out in Box 6.  He was checked from pillar to post here last start and is a chance of bouncing back in this.   He’s A Dude can kick up from the rails draw and run a cheeky race add Footrot Fitz for the top 3.  Box Up 2.3.6.7.

Race 3 and the two main chances come from Bianca Bale and Commentator.  Both have drawn down on the rails and will be the major players in this event.  Both have a good turn of early pace so luck will play a big part.  Starling Bale is a good place hope at handy odds and will be running on late.  Box Up 1.3.4.8.

Aston Gatum appears one of the better bets of the night here in race 4.  He has moderate beginner’s drawn either side and should be the early leader from box 2.  He’s A Villian will be flying home late and a will be right in the finish.  Box Up 1.2.5.6.

Race 5 we will go with another Troy Murray sprinter in Cash In Looper down in box 1.  He has proven to be hit and miss on box rise here in the past but only needs an ounce of luck early to salute.  Looking for the minors I like Farhat Bale at cheeky odds along with kennel mate Hallibel Bale who is racing well.  Box Up 1.5.7.8.

The 6th and the 1st semi of the SA St Leger and it’s very hard to go past the Lisa Rasmussen trained Crisis Bale.  He is in outstanding form and carved out a BON 29.86 here last week.  The BIG danger is Penny Maker for the Butcher kennel.  She has only missed a cheque once in her 10 career starts and will make a race of this.  Add in Wave To Kirra for the minors. Box Up 1.3.4.7.

The 7th and the 2nd of the SA St Leger semis and if you love a tight finish get on Worm Burner out in box 8.  He can be very tardy early then sprouts wings into the back and will be flying home over the last 10m.  Fayette has been well beaten of late but is more than capable of running a bold race in this at good odds.  Add in Banker Bale for the top 3.  Box Up 1.4.5.8.

Race 8 and this is a terrific betting race with several chances.  Mrs Bubbles won three on the trot here all in quick times then was slow away when 3rd from box  6 here last start.  Are Ate has won four in a row here and is well drawn in this from a wide draw.  These two are definitely the main chances.  Alderley Reform rattled home to win from this draw last start in 29.92 and is a must for the trifecta.   Box Up 1.2.5.7.

This is the distance event of the night and last start winner Bradley Bale was very good when beating Ulala Bale here last Thursday after being checked early, on that run he is my top pick.  Here Comes Henry can fill a place and looks the improver so let’s go with 4 from 1.6.8.

Race 10 and what a run Mobius was here last week.  He camped on them early then blew them away winning by over 8L in a BON 29.65, tonight he will win again but it will be very skinny odds so we will make him another stand out. 2 from 4.6.8

Race 11 and this could cap off a terrific night for the Rasmussen kennel if Shana Allen wins the final event.  She is well drawn and will give this a big shake from the rails draw.  Graff Bale is ultra-consistent and should be at handy odds so we can’t leave her out of the trifecta.  Velocity Tina is the improver out in box 7 and can return into the prizemoney.  Box Up 2.3.5.7.

LOCAL NEWS

ST LEGER SEMI FINALS TONIGHT

Angle Park tonight sees two Semi-Finals of the 2016 SA St Leger. We saw three heats run last Wednesday and we can look forward to some close racing tonight.

The first four in each Semi-Final will qualify for next weeks Final with the fastest fifth’s being declared the reserves. The $8,565 SA St Leger Final will be run next Thursday 18th February. The box draw for the Final will be conducted on track this evening, following race 8.

THE RAZLDAZL LAUNCHING PAD – NOMINATIONS CLOSE TOMORROW

Again this year the Sandown GRC offered sweepstakes tickets into the Launching Pad Series. There were 96 tickets sold and this has enabled them to increase their prizemoney for the race to an unbelievable $460,000 over three weeks with $155,000 for first, $43,000 for second and $20,000 for third. There are special conditions on the race being greyhounds that have won between 1 and 6 races and have not had more than 30 starts. The heats will be run at Sandown over the 515m on Thursday 10th March, the semi finals on Thursday 17th March with the $220,000 final run on Thursday 2nd April.

Greyhound Racing SA was able to secure a ticket and will give one of our greyhounds the opportunity to compete in this lucrative series. We will run a heat and final series to determine who will make the Launching Pad heats on 10th March.

Our heats will be run next Wednesday 17th February over the 515m at Angle Park for greyhounds that have won 1-4 races and no more than 28 starts. The heats will be worth $860 and will be Non Penalty events. The final will be run at Angle Park on Thursday 25th February over the 515m with prizemoney of $4,415 and will also be Non Penalty.

The winner of the final will take their spot in the Launching Pad heats two weeks later however if the winner for whatever reason cannot take their spot then the next qualified greyhound will be given that spot. GRSA has restricted the series to 1-4 wins and 28 starts in case a greyhound wins both the heat and final so this will still keep them eligible. We have also made our final two weeks before the Launching Pad heats at Sandown giving the trainer an opportunity to get across the border and trial for the big race.
