TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

With a quality 10 event programme tonight there looks to be several open races that we should be able to pick a winner or two at good each way odds. The Quadrella looks an open one so it’s certainly worth having a crack at.

Race 1 and we can kick off the night with Peejay Jack.  He can be hit and miss on box rise but with luck will come out running and be hard to beat at good odds.  Flying Mal and Dodger I Am will be right in the mix.  Box Up 1.2.4.7.

Race 2 and the two main chances are Hallibel Bale and Fear The Rascal.  Both have drawn the inside and should be battling out the finish.  Gaff Bale will be winding up over the final stages and is a must for the trifecta.  Box Up 1.2.4.7.

Race 3, well we have started with a couple of each way odd performers and let’s hope we are in front as I am tipping the powerful Cyclone Clifford in this.  He is well drawn down in box 3 and should sprint well fresh.  Commentator should start the punters elect along with Footrot Fantasia.  Box Up 1.2.3.8.

The Stamenkovic kennel normally has their runners nice and fit so it is very hard to go past Mobius here, who is resuming down in box 4.  She is very slow early but does her best work over the last 100m so let’s hope she is close enough early.  Rellim Allan is well drawn in box 1 and appears a trifecta chance.  Box up 1.4.7.8.

Race 5 and this is a quality 600m event with the main chances coming from either Full Effect or last start winner Mija Returns.  Both should run into the top 3 in this, we can add Parsec Bale and Billy Blue Eyes for the Pick 4.  Box Up 1.4.6.8.

Race 6 The Terry Cahalan trained Alderley Reform bounced back with a good win last start and from box 1 will be right in the mix I like the cheeky Farhat Bale who is a chance of leading despite the ordinary draw of 5 and is a little bit of value for our trifecta.  Anisa Bale is well drawn out in box 8 and is another who loves to run a place and can’t be overlooked.  Box Up 1.5.7.8.

The 7th event and if we are behind at this stage I have one for us at good odds and that is the Kath Johnstone trained Genghis Kahn.  He was checked early here last week on box rise and then made good late ground when 4th beaten just under 2L from box 6.  He has 2 moderate beginners on his inside here and will be a big chance.  Galilee Spirit has been hit and miss of late but when on song will be hard to beat.  Box Up 3.4.5.6.

Race 8 and Liam’s Entity looks one of the better bets of the night from box 3.  He has good box speed and should lead and win for mine.  Fusaichi Kahn has missed the kick at his past couple but looks the likely improver along with Getty Bale at value for the trifecta.  Box Up 1.2.3.4.

This is the Distance event of the evening with only 5 runners but they all have a chance so it is a must to have a sneaky bet on. I am going with Nemesis Bale down in box 2 as he should be right on the pace early and be hard to hold out.  The favourite should be the kennel mate Ulala Bale out in box 8 as she has a proven track record over this trip.  Box Up 2.4.6.8.

Race 10 and this is a toughie as the main two I like in this can be hit and miss on box rise and they are Shana Allen and He’s A Dude.  Both are very strong and can’t be left out of the trifecta add Garry McBain and Velocity Tina.   Box Up 1.2.3.6.

THE RAZLDAZL LAUNCHING PAD – HEATS WEDNESDAY 17TH FEBRUARY

Again this year the Sandown GRC offered sweepstakes tickets into the Launching Pad Series. There were 96 tickets sold and this has enabled them to increase their prizemoney for the race to an unbelievable $460,000 over three weeks with $155,000 for first, $43,000 for second and $20,000 for third.

There are special conditions on the race being greyhounds that have won between 1 and 6 races and have not had more than 30 starts. The heats will be run at Sandown over the 515m on Thursday 10th March, the semi finals on Thursday 17th March with the $220,000 final run on Thursday 2nd April.

Greyhound Racing SA was able to secure a ticket and will give one of our greyhounds the opportunity to compete in this lucrative series. We will run a heat and final series to determine who will make the Launching Pad heats on 10th March.

Our heats will be run on Wednesday 17th February over the 515m at Angle Park for greyhounds that have won 1-4 races and no more than 28 starts. The heats will be worth $860 and will be Non Penalty events. The final will be run at Angle Park on Thursday 25th February over the 515m with prizemoney of $4,415 and will also be Non Penalty.

The winner of the final will take their spot in the Launching Pad heats two weeks later however if the winner for whatever reason cannot take their spot then the next qualified greyhound will be given that spot.

It’s a terrific concept by the Sandown GRC and gives an opportunity for those less experienced greyhounds a chance to race for big prizemoney.

GRSA has restricted the series to 1-4 wins and 28 starts in case a greyhound wins both the heat and final so this will still keep them eligible. We have also made our final two weeks before the Launching Pad heats at Sandown giving the trainer an opportunity to get across the border and trial for the big race.

Trainers will have to specifically nominate for these races or will be considered for normal races on this program.

Refer to conditions of Pathway Racing eligibility below.

·         Pathway Racing to be run at Angle Park Wednesday meetings and Gawler Sunday meetings initially as part of the trial. Each meeting will be programmed around 1 to 2 weeks apart for the first two months.

·         Prizemoney for these races will be normal Provincial 2 levels for the first 3 months and then will be at flattened stake money levels for the next 3 months during the trial.

·         Pathway Racing events will only be for Maiden, Grade 6 and Grade 5 greyhounds at the track.

·         Winners of these races will take a penalty (When run at Flattened stakemoney these races may be Non Penalty)

·         Trainers must nominate for these “Pathway” races to be considered otherwise the grader will grade in normal events. However if a trainer advised ‘Pathway Racing Only” then the grader will only consider for that event. Trainers are advised to put as much information on their nomination to assist the grader.

·         SA Bred greyhounds will be given preference into these events if nominated

·         Fields will be made up with all trainers first before those trainers with multiple nominations are considered. For example, trainers will go in with 1 dog first then 2, then 3 etc

·         Guarding will occur where possible

·         Initially there will be no feature heats programmed on these specific Pathway Racing meetings

GAWLER THURSDAY TRIALS TO START AT 7.00AM

After a request from the Gawler GRC the Thursday morning trials will now start at 7.00am.

This starting time change will continue until the end of daylight saving in March 2016.

STRATHALBYN TO TRIAL MAIDEN/GRADE 6 OVER 536M

The Strathalbyn GRC will look to run mixed M/6 fields over the 536m. With the lack of 500m greyhounds this may provide an opportunity for both classes. Preference will still be for a Maiden event 536m however if required these could be mixed. Please make it clear on your nomination if you would like your Maiden greyhound mixed with a Grade 6 over 536m only.
