TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

It’s truly unbelievable we come to the end of another year and we will need to line the old pockets after a very expensive week. Good Luck to all in 2016 and may it be a fruitful one on the punt.  Now there is no better way to kick off with a winner or two tonight.

Race 1 and I have jumped ship after 3 weeks and that is tipping Black Bottle.  He is well drawn and is a must for the trifecta, BUT, I am going with Starling Bale in box 2.  She is in terrific form and will be right in the mix.  Add in Dodger I Am who will be rattling home late.  Box Up 1.2.3.6.

Race 2 and Kenny Gill has Ruff State firing of late and he should take beating out in box 8 on his past couple here.  Springvale Bryne should start the punters elect and can’t be overlooked.  Box Up all the even numbers 2.4.6.8.

Race 3 and the Petar Jovanovic kennel has a smart one in Jack Walker.  He blitzed them over the short here last start by over 9L and looks far too good in this.  Add in Bradley Bale and Banker Bale for the Trifecta.  Box Up 3.4.5.7

Race 4 and this is a very open affair and I like Antonio Tyson down in box 1.  He won here 5 starts back from this draw and should appreciate the drop in grade.  We can add in Check Yo Self and Ifrit Bale for value.  Box Up the inside brigade 1.2.3.4.

The 5th and it’s very hard to go past Abbie’s Girl, Angela Modra has her in terrific form over all distances and she appears far too good again over the 600m.  Barley’s Rhythm will be running on along with Elite Effort.  Box Up 1.2.4.7.

Race 6 and this race is full of quick beginner’s and I will stick with Galilee Spirit who missed the kick here last week  from this draw but he can bounce back with moderate beginner’s on his inside.  The veteran Yiche has tremendous early pace and is very hard to leave out of the first 4.  Box Up 1.2.4.7.

Race 7 and I love the inside 3 here all have the pace to be fighting out the finish but for my top pick I have to lean towards Crisis Bale who is in fine form for the Rasmussen kennel .  Fusaichi Kahn will be kicking up and a win wouldn’t surprise.  Box Up 1.2.3.7.

The 8th and how good is this event as there could be at LEAST 5 main chances, but we can’t pick them all so I will tip the Mathew Payne Mrs. Bubbles.  She was a winner here last start in quick time and she never gives up so we will make her our top pick.  Roscoe’s Entity has won 3 of his last 5 and is a must along with Gun McBain.  Box Up 1.2.7.8. in a good betting race.

The 9th and there are only 5 runners over the distance and we see the return of Luna Jinx after a campaign interstate.  She should be hard to beat in the small field but Grifter Bale will set the pace and is a last start winner here in a good 43.22.  Box Up 1.2.4.6

Race 10 and as Maxwell Smart would say Very Interesting ?? Fast Noodle will start the punters elect and appears very hard to beat but if we are behind, jump on Always Winnie, he is the value runner and might get us out of trouble at good odds.  Add in Caboose for the trifecta Box Up 1.4.5.8.

The final event is race 11 and is another open affair.  I will go with the consistent Kiola Lachlan, he hasn’t missed a place in his last 4 starts here and can salute for all of us and take us to happy and safe 2016.  Box Up 1.2.4.7.

All the Best to supporters, trainers and owners plus the staff of Greyhound Racing SA in the New Year.

PATHWAY RACING TO START IN JANUARY 2016

In acknowledgment of the need that exists within greyhound racing to accommodate all levels of greyhounds with the opportunity to compete, Greyhound Racing SA (GRSA) has committed to an immediate trial of lower grade racing for greyhounds with recent racing form which falls outside an identified time standard.  This initiative will be called “Pathway Racing” and is part of a broader review of industry strategy which places animal welfare outcomes at its focus.

Further to consultation with the Industry Consultative Group, GRSA will introduce Pathway Racing for races at published race meetings in support of providing opportunities for lower grade greyhounds, commencing in January 2016. GRSA believes there is an immediate need to identify a vehicle for such greyhounds to be able to compete against greyhounds of a similar ability.  GRSA will run races to accommodate those greyhounds which meet a time standard on a trial basis with an intention to review outcomes after six months.

Race meetings identified for Pathway Racing in January & February are –

  • Wednesday 6th January 2016 at Angle Park (Provincial 2)

(Fields drawn)

  • Wednesday 20th January 2016 at Angle Park (Provincial 2)

(Nominations close with GRSA at 9am on Friday 15th January)

  • Sunday 31st January 2016 at Gawler (Provincial 2)

(Nominations close with GRSA at 9am on Wednesday 27th January)

  • Wednesday 10th February 2016 at Angel Park (Provincial 2)

(Nominations close with GRSA at 9am on Friday 5th February)

  • Sunday 14th February 2016 at Gawler (Provincial 2)

(Nominations close with GRSA at 9am on Tuesday 9th February)

  • Wednesday 24th February 2016 at Angel Park (Provincial 2)

(Nominations close with GRSA at 9am on Friday 19th February)

  • Sunday 28th February 2016 at Gawler (Provincial 2)

(Nominations close with GRSA at 9am on Tuesday 23rd February)

It is anticipated these races will take up half the programme and will be run with normal Provincial 2 prizemoney.  The trial will run for 3 months to gauge the response of owners and trainers, followed by a subsequent 3 month trial under conditions of ‘flattened’ staking, with prizemoney being more evenly distributed across all greyhounds in the event.

Greyhounds must have run outside a time standard in their last 4 starts to be eligible for selection.

**No time required for Port Augusta as a Non TAB meeting

Trainers will have to specifically nominate for these races or will be considered for normal races on this program.

Refer to conditions of Pathway Racing eligibility below.

·         Pathway Racing to be run at Angle Park Wednesday meetings and Gawler Sunday meetings initially as part of the trial. Each meeting will be programmed around 1 to 2 weeks apart for the first two months.

·         Prizemoney for these races will be normal Provincial 2 levels for the first 3 months and then will be at flattened stake money levels for the next 3 months during the trial.

·         Pathway Racing events will only be for Maiden, Grade 6 and Grade 5 greyhounds at the track.

·         Winners of these races will take a penalty (When run at Flattened stakemoney these races may be Non Penalty)

·         Trainers must nominate for these “Pathway” races to be considered otherwise the grader will grade in normal events. However if a trainer advised ‘Pathway Racing Only” then the grader will only consider for that event. Trainers are advised to put as much information on their nomination to assist the grader.

·         Greyhounds must have started in South Australia on 4 occasions to be eligible for these races. First starters and greyhounds with one, two or three starts in SA will not be considered for these events.

·         Fields will be selected worst form to best form in the opinion of the Grader. The Order of Preference will not be used for Pathway Racing.

·         Races will be graded on race wins where possible.

·         SA Bred greyhounds will be given preference into these events if nominated

·         Fields will be made up with all trainers first before those trainers with multiple nominations are considered. For example, trainers will go in with 1 dog first then 2, then 3 etc

·         Guarding will occur where possible

·         Initially there will be no feature heats programmed on these specific Pathway Racing meetings

GRSA will make every effort to convey the conditions of Pathway Racing to participants by attending race meetings, electronically and via social media however owners and trainers are encouraged to contact GRSA to establish if their greyhound would be eligible for these events prior to nominating.

STRATHALBYN TO TRIAL MAIDEN/GRADE 6 OVER 536M

The Strathalbyn GRC will look to run mixed M/6 fields over the 536m. With the lack of 500m greyhounds this may provide an opportunity for both classes. Preference will still be for a Maiden event 536m however if required these could be mixed. Please make it clear on your nomination if you would like your Maiden greyhound mixed with a Grade 6 over 536m only.
