Angle Park Preview
TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow
Good luck to all and I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas tomorrow. On that note don’t forget to give your best friends in the kennel a little treat on the day as they deserve it. Now it is a must we come out in front with a couple of winners and the races we can focus on that look very good betting affairs are races 5.6.7.8 all have several chances.
Race 1 and the inside 3 all look a good chance with Blu Light Banjo having the early pace to lead them. It will just be a bit of luck if she can hold on with the others breathing down her neck in the final stages. Box Up 1.2.3.5
Race 2 and Manhattan Cry looks the best bet of the night on his last start 29.59 win here from box 4 so we will make him a stand out. Ruff State will be running on late so will In A Bottle, let’s go with 7 from 1.4.8. Boxed.
The Distance race is the 3rd and very even with a small field it’s a wide open affair. I will go with Ulala Bale out in box 8. She charged home here last week to finish 2nd and can only improve. Grifter Bale has been freshened and is the danger. Box Up 2.5.7.8.
Race 4 and winning form is good form, so it’s hard to go past Galilee Spirit in box 4. He should lead again and take a power of beating. Add in Emerley Senorita and Blurred Lines. Box Up 2.3.4.5.
The 5th and this is a more than handy 600m event. We should have a wager on the Gavin Harris chaser Dashing Dee Dee in box 6. She will be rattling home and if she can settle on the pace will be hard to beat. Freesia Bale is racing well so is a must for the trifecta. Box Up 1.2.5.6
Race 6 and this could be our value runner of the night and that is Black Bottle. He is SO SO close to winning but just hasn’t been able to skip away early. Dodger I Am will be running on late as will Gunloch. Box Up 1.3.5.6
The 7th and the EX WA performer in Cash Rules has handy credentials and should be amongst the main chances at her debut despite the poor draw of 5. Elite Effort can fill a place along with Fast Noodle who loves to run a place. Box Up 2.5.6.8.
Race 8 is a very open affair and is filled with quality and early pace and it’s a tough one to pick the winner. I am going with a value runner again in Fusaichi Kahn, he has pace and is hard to run down. Mrs Bubbles and Temalor are all chances when on song. Box Up 2.4.6.8.
Race 9 and let’s hope we are in front by now as this is a very tough affair with at least 4 main chances. The Jovanovic kennel has 3 runners and all are a hope. Rita’s Kabin is well drawn in 2 and has won here in 30.10 from this draw late last month so we will put her in along with Molly Dobbs. Box Up 2.5.6.8.
The 10th is another open affair and we should go with Aston Tulloch out in box 8. He has missed the kick in his past couple but with a couple of moderate beginners on his inside he should be able to cross. Zipping Nelson will come out running and if we add in Jen Zarr Go for value. Box Up 2.3.7.8.
Race 11 and we will go home on a winning note when Dyna Quote wins. She has been the bridesmaid at her last 3 runs here and at Strathalbyn so she is the top pick. Ritza Connor is hit and miss on box rise but is strong. Box Up 2.3.5.7.

LOCAL NEWS
PATHWAY RACING TO START IN JANUARY 2016
In acknowledgment of the need that exists within greyhound racing to accommodate all levels of greyhounds with the opportunity to compete, Greyhound Racing SA (GRSA) has committed to an immediate trial of lower grade racing for greyhounds with recent racing form which falls outside an identified time standard. This initiative will be called “Pathway Racing” and is part of a broader review of industry strategy which places animal welfare outcomes at its focus.
Further to consultation with the Industry Consultative Group, GRSA will introduce Pathway Racing for races at published race meetings in support of providing opportunities for lower grade greyhounds, commencing in January 2016. GRSA believes there is an immediate need to identify a vehicle for such greyhounds to be able to compete against greyhounds of a similar ability. GRSA will run races to accommodate those greyhounds which meet a time standard on a trial basis with an intention to review outcomes after six months.
Race meetings identified for Pathway Racing in January & February are –
- Wednesday 6th January 2016 at Angle Park (Provincial 2)
(Nominations close with GRSA at 9am on Thursday 31st December)
- Wednesday 20th January 2016 at Angle Park (Provincial 2)
(Nominations close with GRSA at 9am on Friday 15th January)
- Sunday 31st January 2016 at Gawler (Provincial 2)
(Nominations close with GRSA at 9am on Wednesday 27th January)
- Wednesday 10th February 2016 at Angel Park (Provincial 2)
(Nominations close with GRSA at 9am on Friday 5th February)
- Sunday 14th February 2016 at Gawler (Provincial 2)
(Nominations close with GRSA at 9am on Tuesday 9th February)
- Wednesday 24th February 2016 at Angel Park (Provincial 2)
(Nominations close with GRSA at 9am on Friday 19th February)
- Sunday 28th February 2016 at Gawler (Provincial 2)
(Nominations close with GRSA at 9am on Tuesday 23rd February)
It is anticipated these races will take up half the programme and will be run with normal Provincial 2 prizemoney. The trial will run for 3 months to gauge the response of owners and trainers, followed by a subsequent 3 month trial under conditions of ‘flattened’ staking, with prizemoney being more evenly distributed across all greyhounds in the event.
Greyhounds must have run outside a time standard in their last 4 starts to be eligible for selection.

Trainers will have to specifically nominate for these races or will be considered for normal races on this program.
Refer to conditions of Pathway Racing eligibility below.
· Pathway Racing to be run at Angle Park Wednesday meetings and Gawler Sunday meetings initially as part of the trial. Each meeting will be programmed around 1 to 2 weeks apart for the first two months.
· Prizemoney for these races will be normal Provincial 2 levels for the first 3 months and then will be at flattened stake money levels for the next 3 months during the trial.
· Pathway Racing events will only be for Maiden, Grade 6 and Grade 5 greyhounds at the track.
· Winners of these races will take a penalty (When run at Flattened stakemoney these races may be Non Penalty)
· Trainers must nominate for these “Pathway” races to be considered otherwise the grader will grade in normal events. However if a trainer advised ‘Pathway Racing Only” then the grader will only consider for that event. Trainers are advised to put as much information on their nomination to assist the grader.
· Greyhounds must have started in South Australia on 4 occasions to be eligible for these races. First starters and greyhounds with one, two or three starts in SA will not be considered for these events.
· Fields will be selected worst form to best form in the opinion of the Grader. The Order of Preference will not be used for Pathway Racing.
· Races will be graded on race wins where possible.
· SA Bred greyhounds will be given preference into these events if nominated
· Fields will be made up with all trainers first before those trainers with multiple nominations are considered. For example, trainers will go in with 1 dog first then 2, then 3 etc
· Guarding will occur where possible
· Initially there will be no feature heats programmed on these specific Pathway Racing meetings
GRSA will make every effort to convey the conditions of Pathway Racing to participants by attending race meetings, electronically and via social media however owners and trainers are encouraged to contact GRSA to establish if their greyhound would be eligible for these events prior to nominating.
XMAS SPRINT TONIGHT
The highlight on tonight’s 11 event program at Angle Park will be the 2015 Xmas Sprint featuring a top line up of sprinters. The likes of Mrs. Bubbles, Gun McBain, Cash In Looper and Temalor will all do battle in the final feature before the New Year Year. There will be a rug and trophy presentation after the race so good luck to all connections.
UBET will have a terrific Trifecta Jackpot of $10,000 on this race so if you can pick the first 3 past the post you could be in for a nice bonus before Xmas.
KERRY SEAMEN LEAVING THE RACING OFFICE OF GRSA
Kerry who has worked in the Racing Office for the last few years has advised that tonight will be her last night for Greyhound Racing SA as she will be moving on to assist her partner in their business. Kerry has worked for GRSA for a number of years working at the front gate in the Admission booth, in Administration itself and the Racing Office. We wish Kerry the best of luck and thank her very much for all her efforts with GRSA.
With Kerry leaving there will be a few changes to the Race Night office going forward. On Monday 28th December the Race Night office will be closed due to the Public Holiday with Trainers Fees paid into Bank Accounts however for Monday night’s starting 4th January the Race Night office will be closed with all Trainers Fees paid upstairs at the bar in Chasers Restaurant. Any paperwork needing to be lodged can be left in the nominations slit in the wall next to the Administration entry.
On Thursday nights the Race Night office will remain open from 4.30pm to 8.30pm with Cheryl Boswell talking over the role. Cheryl has been learning the duties over the last few weeks with her first night on deck solo being Thursday 31st December. I would ask all participants to please be patient in the first instance while Cheryl gathers experience on race nights.
NO TRIALS AT ANGLE PARK ON SATURDAY MORNING
Due to the Xmas break and staffing arrangements there will be NO trials this Saturday 26th December at Angle Park.
IT’S CLASSIFED INTO THE SEMI FINALS OF THE SILVER CHIEF
It’s Classifed trained by Troy Murray ventured across the border last Saturday night at the Meadows and showed his class by defeating a top line up in a heat of the Group 1 Silver Chief. He ran a slick 29.90 after leading throughout with a strong run home giving every indication he will be improved with the run. He has drawn box 8 in his semi final on Saturday night where he is in race 7 due to start at 8.50pm (SA time). With four semi finals he needs to finish in the first two to qualify for the $100,000 to the winner final on Saturday 2nd January. Troy also has strong type Kenny’s Flash engaged in race 10 on the program that will hopefully have an uninterrupted run this week.
Also at the Meadows Cameron Butcher will be hoping Worm Burner can get a run in the third semi final of the Silver Chief (race 8) after he ran fourth in his heat only beaten just over 1 length. There will need to be a scratching for this to occur however he has got She’s A Looper engaged in race 11 who can hopefully pay for the trip across the border.
BASIC STEEL SUPPLIES SA SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP
Owners & Trainers are reminded of the domiciliary clause on the Basic Steel Supplies SA Sprint Championship coming up in January. To be eligible a greyhound must have been domiciled in SA for a period of not less than 76 days out of the 150 days immediately prior to the time fixed for the finalising of nominations and drawing of fields. (Nationals policy adopted – date when training amendment updated in Ozchase)
This date going back 76 days is 21st October as nominations close on Monday 4th January 2016.
The $4,415 heats are scheduled to be run on Thursday 7th January, with the Final to be run on Thursday 14th January. Total prizemoney for the listed final will be $22,000, with the winner’s share of $15,000.
Nominations close on Monday 4th January 2016 at 9.00am with GRSA.
GAWLER THURSDAY TRIALS TO START AT 7.00AM
After a request from the Gawler GRC the Thursday morning trials will now start at 7.00am.
This starting time change will continue until the end of daylight saving in March 2016.
STRATHALBYN TO TRIAL MAIDEN/GRADE 6 OVER 536M
The Strathalbyn GRC will look to run mixed M/6 fields over the 536m. With the lack of 500m greyhounds this may provide an opportunity for both classes. Preference will still be for a Maiden event 536m however if required these could be mixed. Please make it clear on your nomination if you would like your Maiden greyhound mixed with a Grade 6 over 536m only.
OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE INDUSTRY AWARD
At the next Greyhound of the Year Awards night the Young Person and Volunteer award have been combined to acknowledge Outstanding Service to the Industry. Nomination Forms are available on the GRSA website and from the Racing Office. Nominations will close on Friday 22nd January 2016.
