Angle Park Preview

17/12/2015
Racing News

It looks to be an interesting night of racing and if things go our way we might be able to back a couple of winners at handy odds. Race’s 5, 7 and 8 are the headliners of the 11 event programme.

Race 1 and we can kick off with an early winner with Rupert.  He has the pace to hold the lead and should be right in the mix.  We can add in Park Glory at good odds to add some value along with Lucky Road who appears well drawn.  Box Up 1.2.3.6

Race 2 this looks a chance for Ritza Connor to make it 2 in a row.  He won from this draw last start in 30.10 and on that effort would be very hard to beat again.  Lee I Am could be an improver down in box 2 along with the pacey Crisis Bale.  Box Up 2.4.7.8

Race 3 and with a repeat performance of last week Galilee Spirit will take running down, based on his 29.71 win here from box 7.  He is in form and looks one of the better bets of the night. Grande To Excel can surprise along with Ritza Raider.  Box Up 1.2.3.8

The 4th and I have had a long hard look at this event and picked one out at handy odds in Barossa Kid.  He doesn’t win many but is always around the mark.  Manly Beach will need to spring the lids to cross and if he does he would be amongst the major contenders.  Box Up the even numbers 2.4.6.8

The 5th and we will go with Full Effect in the 600m event.  He carved out a sensational 34.88 run here last start from box 4 and would take a power of beating on that effort.  Genghis Kahn has been mixing his form but is capable of bouncing back along with Freesia Bale who is well drawn.  Box Up 1.3.6.8.

Race 6 and the punters elect will be My Excuse from box 2.  He has a heap of early pace and looks very hard to beat from box 2.  Black Bottle was VERY unlucky here last week when he was severely checked on the 1st turn and lost all hope, he for mine could be the smokey. Box Up the inside brigade 1.2.3.4

Race 7 and the Cameron Butcher kennel is flying of late and so is Worm Burner he just keeps on getting quicker and last week went a slick 29.49 from box 5 after missing the start.  He looks the winner so we will make him the stand out 3 from 2.4.8. Boxed.

The 8th and this is a very good betting race as there are several chances so I will go with the box draw and that leads me to Mrs Bubbles.  She has won her past two here in sub 30 and will be right in the mix again.  Temalor was run down here last start but hasn’t missed a cheque in her last 6 runs.  Wild Soul will be rattling home out wide and is a must for the top 3.  Box Up 2.3.6.7

Race 9 and this is the distance affair and Abbie’s Girl should win again on her last start 43.23 win here with a bold front running display, so she will be our stand out 1 from 4.6.8

The 10th and the Johnstone kennel can have a win here with Blu Light Banjo down in box 1.  She won from this draw two runs back in good fashion and is my top pick.  Zipping Nelson can only improve with another look at the track and should start the punters elect.  Box Up 1.3.7.8.

The final event race 11, and there are several chances and the youngster in Ritza Jordan has enough pace to clear them early from box 4 and salute.  Banker Bale has been battling but is very handy when on song.  Box Up 2.3.4.6.

LOCAL NEWS

PATHWAY RACING TO START IN JANUARY 2016

In acknowledgment of the need that exists within greyhound racing to accommodate all levels of greyhounds with the opportunity to compete, Greyhound Racing SA (GRSA) has committed to an immediate trial of lower grade racing for greyhounds with recent racing form which falls outside an identified time standard.  This initiative will be called “Pathway Racing” and is part of a broader review of industry strategy which places animal welfare outcomes at its focus.

Further to consultation with the Industry Consultative Group, GRSA will introduce Pathway Racing for races at published race meetings in support of providing opportunities for lower grade greyhounds, commencing in January 2016. GRSA believes there is an immediate need to identify a vehicle for such greyhounds to be able to compete against greyhounds of a similar ability.  GRSA will run races to accommodate those greyhounds which meet a time standard on a trial basis with an intention to review outcomes after six months.

Race meetings identified for Pathway Racing in January & February are –

  • Wednesday 6th January 2016 at Angle Park (Provincial 2)

(Nominations close with GRSA at 9am on Thursday 31st December)

  • Wednesday 20th January 2016 at Angle Park (Provincial 2)

(Nominations close with GRSA at 9am on Friday 15th January)

  • Sunday 31st January 2016 at Gawler (Provincial 2)

(Nominations close with GRSA at 9am on Wednesday 27th January)

  • Wednesday 10th February 2016 at Angel Park (Provincial 2)

(Nominations close with GRSA at 9am on Friday 5th February)

  • Sunday 14th February 2016 at Gawler (Provincial 2)

(Nominations close with GRSA at 9am on Tuesday 9th February)

  • Wednesday 24th February 2016 at Angel Park (Provincial 2)

(Nominations close with GRSA at 9am on Friday 19th February)

  • Sunday 28th February 2016 at Gawler (Provincial 2)

(Nominations close with GRSA at 9am on Tuesday 23rd February)

It is anticipated these races will take up half the programme and will be run with normal Provincial 2 prizemoney.  The trial will run for 3 months to gauge the response of owners and trainers, followed by a subsequent 3 month trial under conditions of ‘flattened’ staking, with prizemoney being more evenly distributed across all greyhounds in the event.

Greyhounds must have run outside a time standard in their last 4 starts to be eligible for selection.

**No time required for Port Augusta as a Non TAB meeting

Trainers will have to specifically nominate for these races or will be considered for normal races on this program.

Refer to conditions of Pathway Racing eligibility below.

·         Pathway Racing to be run at Angle Park Wednesday meetings and Gawler Sunday meetings initially as part of the trial. Each meeting will be programmed around 1 to 2 weeks apart for the first two months.

·         Prizemoney for these races will be normal Provincial 2 levels for the first 3 months and then will be at flattened stake money levels for the next 3 months during the trial.

·         Pathway Racing events will only be for Maiden, Grade 6 and Grade 5 greyhounds at the track.

·         Winners of these races will take a penalty (When run at Flattened stakemoney these races may be Non Penalty)

·         Trainers must nominate for these “Pathway” races to be considered otherwise the grader will grade in normal events. However if a trainer advised ‘Pathway Racing Only” then the grader will only consider for that event. Trainers are advised to put as much information on their nomination to assist the grader.

·         Greyhounds must have started in South Australia on 4 occasions to be eligible for these races. First starters and greyhounds with one, two or three starts in SA will not be considered for these events.

·         Fields will be selected worst form to best form in the opinion of the Grader. The Order of Preference will not be used for Pathway Racing.

·         Races will be graded on race wins where possible.

·         SA Bred greyhounds will be given preference into these events if nominated

·         Fields will be made up with all trainers first before those trainers with multiple nominations are considered. For example, trainers will go in with 1 dog first then 2, then 3 etc

·         Guarding will occur where possible

·         Initially there will be no feature heats programmed on these specific Pathway Racing meetings

GRSA will make every effort to convey the conditions of Pathway Racing to participants by attending race meetings, electronically and via social media however owners and trainers are encouraged to contact GRSA to establish if their greyhound would be eligible for these events prior to nominating.

SA INTEREST FOR THE SILVER CHIEF HEATS ON SATURDAY NIGHT

South Australia will have very good representation on Saturday night at the Meadows with some of our best chasers competing in the Heats of the Group 1 Silver Chief at the Meadows. Troy Murray has Kenny’s Flash engaged in race 4 while Group 3 Gawler  Cup winner It’s Classified has drawn box 1 in race 7. Paula Hearnden will have Gawler Cup placegetter Marlow Brown going around in race 6 from the pink box while Ruff State for Ken Gill is engaged in race 10. Recent Group 3 Brian Johnstone winner Worm Burner for Cameron Butcher has drawn box 2 in race 9.

The three week series will culminate with the $100,000 to the winner final on Saturday 2nd January. Good luck to all the SA greyhounds and connections.

GAWLER THURSDAY TRIALS TO START AT 7.00AM

After a request from the Gawler GRC the Thursday morning trials will now start at 7.00am.

This starting time change will continue until the end of daylight saving in March 2016.

STRATHALBYN TO TRIAL MAIDEN/GRADE 6 OVER 536M

The Strathalbyn GRC will look to run mixed M/6 fields over the 536m. With the lack of 500m greyhounds this may provide an opportunity for both classes. Preference will still be for a Maiden event 536m however if required these could be mixed. Please make it clear on your nomination if you would like your Maiden greyhound mixed with a Grade 6 over 536m only.

OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE INDUSTRY AWARD

At the next Greyhound of the Year Awards night the Young Person and Volunteer award has been combined to acknowledge Outstanding Service to the Industry. Nomination Forms are available here and from the Racing Office. Nominations will close on Friday 22nd January 2016.
