TELLING THE TAIL
By The Shadow

What a great way to kick start the year here at headquarters with two heats of the 2022 SA Sprint Championship, races 4 and 5 on the program, they are both strong races and should make for a terrific final here next week. As always all races are Trifecta and First Four events so lets hope we can start the year like we finished it.

Race 1 - Brief looks very hard to beat in the opening event, she has been in fine form and has the early pace to give this a big shake. Stranger Tides has been racing well and is one of the better chances, add Fantastic Keary who is very strong. Box Up 1.2.6.8

Race 2 - This is the Maiden of the night and we will stick with Lot Of Poise here, he showed enough at his 1st SA start here and is well drawn. Hey Sisco and Ronny Jolie look the place hopes. 2 from 4.6.8

Race 3 - We have our distance event of the night and with only the 5 runners it makes it an interesting affair, I have gone with New Year Tears who could lead here but not with a lot of confidence as he can be hit and miss on lid rise. Sir Truculent would win easily if he was to show a glimpse of his old form and Sebon Panther has won her past two here over this trip and should start the punters elect. Box Up 2.4.6.8

Race 4 - This is the 1st heat of the Sprint and we have gone with the well-drawn Fly For Trix who should be able to kick up and hold the early lead and score. Harbor Blues who is another who has been in fine form, he has won four of his last five here all in good times. Victa Grosso will be running on and can never be left out as he can run time. Box Up 1.6.7.8

Race 5 - Its very hard to go past Stout Monelli here he has been in form since resuming and should be very hard to beat in the 2nd heat of the SA Sprint. Victa Haydn is drawn to run a cheeky race and only needs an ounce of luck early to be right in the finish. Victa Mikey can add some value to the First Four. Box Up 1.2.3.7

Race 6 - Springvale Maddi is our top pick here, she has been racing well with wins here and Gawler and loves a wide draw. Let’s Win Coin has won her last three here and Murray Bridge she looks the only danger and is well boxed, add Springvale Rex and High Octane for the First Four. Box Up 1.3.6.7

Race 7 - I like the inside four here as a couple of them have early pace and the other two will be running on, She’s A Hotshot has the nice draw and can nearly pinch this with luck if she can skip away. Boombox Hammer is drawn to get the early sit and run on. Box Up 1.2.3.4

Race 8 - This is a wide open affair so it makes for a good betting race, I lean towards Aston Gypsy who was a very good run here last week behind Harbor Blues, if she brings that form tonight she can win. Woodside Zulu has won his last two up the straight at the Bridge he likes to get wide in the run and is strong. Rhonda Lily was impressive 1st up at the Mount and is more than capable. Box Up 1.2.3.5

Race 9 - With only the 5 runners here Always Ho Ho should be able to cross from her wide draw and win, she has been in good form and can handle the box 8. Major Major loves this draw (1) and he is strong if he leads it would be all over. Lily Pad can run the Trifecta. Box Up 1.2.6.8

Race 10 - Zipping Abilene has been racing well since transferring to SA, she has won her past two both from box 1 so the draw is the worry. Dashing Wilma is better than her last three suggest and is the improver. Psychotic Babe has early pace and can add some value. Box Up 2.5.7.8

Race 11 - Under Study along with Rogue Player are the main two here both can be very slow early and they both are very strong so whoever is in front down the back should win. Express Black and the old fellow Sentinel McLaren for the First Four. 1.2.4.8 Boxed.

NOTICE TO INDUSTRY – GRSA ADMIN AND GAP

From last Thursday the reception function for GRSA and GAP will be undertaken remotely.

We anticipate that this will not substantially impact our ability to receive calls and convey messages, but will obviously remove the physical presence of receptionists at Angle Park. We encourage people to limit their contact with GRSA or GAP to phone or email in the short term as we continue to monitor the unfolding situation. During this period, please contact GAP on 0437 527 633 and GRSA Admin on 8243 7100 between the normal office hours of 8.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday. TRACK MAINTENANCE NEWS

MURRAY BRIDGE STRAIGHT TRACK - LIGHT HARROW

The Murray Bridge straight track will be light harrowed today at the conclusion of trials.

MURRAY BRIDGE 1-TURN TRACK - DEEP HARROW / CANCELLATION OF TRIALS

The Murray Bridge 1-Turn track will be deep harrowed on Monday 10th January.

As a result, the trial session (both tracks) on this day will be cancelled to allow sufficient time to return the track to a normal condition prior to the next scheduled trial session on Wednesday 12th January.

ANGLE PARK TRACK - MEDIUM HARROW / MOVING OF TRIAL SESSION

The Angle Park track will be medium harrowed on Tuesday 11th January as part of the normal maintenance schedule.

As a result, the trial session for this day will be moved to Wednesday 12th January commencing at 6pm as normal. This change allows sufficient time for the team to return the track to a normal condition for trials.

VIRGINIA TRACK WATERING SCHEDULE

The GOTBA have advised of a resourcing change for the responsibility of irrigating the Virginia grass track. This will result in a more targeted approach to track watering and the presentation of the track differing to what participants may have become accustomed to.

Whilst the look of the track may have changed, the GOTBA is committed to presenting a safe and consistent surface, particularly through the summer months.

KURT DONSBERG ON LEAVE FROM THIS WEEKEND FOR A WEEK

Our Oncourse Photographer, Kurt Donsberg, will be taking some leave starting this Saturday so he will not be attending the Saturday morning meeting this week at Angle Park.

He will be returning on Sunday 16th January at Gawler for the heats of the Gawler Golden Maiden series.

However, he has been able to adjust his leave and attend Angle Park next Thursday night for the listed SA Sprint Final which we appreciate greatly.

Those wishing to take a photo when Kurt is not in attendance after the event please liaise with the stewards on the day/night.

SIMS FAMILY MEMORIAL MAIDEN AT MT GAMBIER NEXT WEEK

Unfortunately, there we insufficient nominations to run two heats of the Sims Family Memorial Maiden at Mt Gambier this Sunday over the 512m. There were only 6 nominations and some trainers did not want to compete in a normal graded maiden race so there was no race run.

In liaising with the club it is the intent for those 6 greyhounds to have preference for the feature Maiden event next week and as the race will be race 5 it can be an 8 dog field if there happens to be a few more nominations.

It has also been recommended to the club that next year or for any further 512m Maiden series that it may be best to just run a one of race on the day the family attends based on the number of Maiden 500+ dogs.

FEATURE GOLDEN MAIDEN SERIES THIS MONTH

The Feature Golden Maiden Series will be held this month over the 531m journey.

The 1,450 Heats will be run on Sunday, 16th January with the $5,000 Final on Sunday, 23rd January.

All Maidens are eligible.

It is a time honoured series and support for this series is vital to ensure at least two heats are conducted

Nominations for the Heats close Wednesday, 12th January with GRSA at 9.00am.

LOW GRADE FEATURES IN JANUARY

In January we will run a Mixed Masters series at Angle Park over 530m with $3,915 Heats on Thursday, 20th January with the $5,150 Final on Thursday, 27th January.

• Nominations for the Heats close Monday, 17th January at 9.00am.

SA BRED DOUG PAYNE FEATURE ON JANUARY 27

GRSA advise that the $14,275 Doug Payne SA Bred Feature Free For All (Non Penalty) will be run on January 27th.

• Nominations close on Monday, 24th January 2022 at 9.00am with GRSA.

GREYHOUND OF THE YEAR ON SATURDAY 5TH FEBRUARY AT ANGLE PARK AGAIN THIS YEAR

The date has been set for the Greyhound of the Year function at Angle Park again this year on Saturday night, 5th February 2022.

The GOTY awards night is always a great night and this is anticipated to be extremely exciting with another wide open count for the top awards. It’s a night not to be missed.

Please note that the Saturday Morning race meeting will be conducted at Gawler on this day to allow the set up at Angle Park.

INTERSTATE NOMINATIONS ACCEPTED UNDER SA HEALTH REGULATIONS

With the recent changes by the SA Government to Interstate persons entering SA, GRSA will accept nominations from all Interstate persons.

Affecting mainly our two weekly meetings at Mt Gambier nominations will be accepted from Cross Border Community Members and those from the remainder of Victoria. To enter into SA it is a requirement to go through Entry Check on the SA Government website to gain approval and understand conditions for being in SA. We would expect all participants attending our meetings to abide by SA Government regulations. Effective from Monday 20th December.

Participants are reminded that from 26th December there will be a requirement to be Vaccinated to attend SA race meetings.

GRSA SKY WEEKLY SCHEDULE TO CHANGE FROM 1ST DECEMBER 2021

From the start of this month (December), the Sky weekly schedule of greyhound racing in South Australia has changed.

The first two Sundays of any month will routinely be scheduled at Murray Bridge with the remaining Sundays being allocated to Gawler. The primary reason for the change is about providing both of those Clubs with an accessible weekly timeslot which helps them to cultivate a strong base of local patronage.

In regard to trialling at these Clubs, when we race at Gawler on the Friday they will trial on the Thursday before. When we race at Gawler on the Sunday they will trial on the Friday before. Murray Bridge trialling dates will remain unchanged.
