Angle Park Preview

20/08/2015
Racing News

Tonight we have a 10 event programme so we will need to be on song early and back a couple of handy winners so we can build a bank.  There looks to be a couple of specials on the programme.  The highlight looks to be the 600m event which is race 6, and the Ben Rawlings trained Placid Planet who is poised to get a beautiful run out in box 8.

Race 1 and we kick off with a handy race that has a couple that will set the pace and some that should be flying home over the top.  That’s why I have gone with Van Carrho Flash, who should be right in the mix early and prove too strong.  Yiche looks the likely leader and is more than capable of pinching this.  Box Up 3.4.5.6

Race 2 There is a couple of quality youngsters in this and they are Von Dousa and Rhynstone Jetta.  Both have a good turn of early pace and both can run time, so they are the two stand outs for mine.  Aston Eclipse is well drawn and can pinch a place.  Box Up 1.2.7.8

The 3rd and the Tracie Price trained Shannah’s Might, she hasn’t put a paw wrong here at both his 600m starts with two quality wins, both from wide draws.  He is back to the sprint tonight and will be very hard to beat from box 8.  Oaky Doaks is working towards a win and is a must for the trifecta.  Add Low Tide for value.  Box Up 1.3.4.8

The 4th and there are only 5 runners so we must pick the trifecta for a $1.  The two main chances are Peejay Jack who should start the punters elect and McCray who ran a BOD at Gawler last start in a slick 30.56.  I am going with 6.1.4, add the 8 for the pick 4.

The 5th and we are half through the programme and hopefully in front and I like a roughie in this.  He looks a big improver and that is Black Bottle out in box 8.  He has just returned from a spell and was a little unlucky when 3rd.  He is a big chance of crossing and pinching this.   Wheel Spinner will start the punters elect and is a must for the top 3.  Box Up 1.4.5.8 ( go the 8)

This is the 600m of the night and it’s very hard to go past the Ben Rawlings trained Placid Planet.  He is in outstanding form of late and has a perfect record of 4 from 4 over this trip and looks far too good again on his last start 34.94 win here over He’s A Villian.  So we will make him a stand out and go with 8 from 1.2.4 boxed.

Race 7 no 7 is the Lisa Rasmussen trained Dyna Fatbob.  He has overcome a moderate start and powered home for a good win here in 30.09 and on that should be right in the firing line again.  Oran Bale is very strong and will be running on along with Big Zap who is more than capable with early luck.  Box Up 4.6.7.8

Race 8 and the two main chances are He Isn’t Really and Scarp Missile both are very smart and are in winning form.  We can add Breaker Kahn who will be running on late along with Antonio Tyson who broke through here for a nice win last week.  Box Up 4.5.6.7

The 9th and the Aldinga maestro puts the polish on Tribal One, Oswald Chegia has him racing well of late and should go home with a winner.  Night Rhythm has settled in well since transferring from the Apple isle and won at his last start at Gawler from box 3.  Box Up all the evens 2.4.6.8

The final event race 10 and Kathy Johnstone, Blu Light Banjo is knocking on the door with two good placings.  She has early pace and looks a big chance to send us home on a winning note.  The main dangers look to be Park Glory down in box 1 along with Always Winnie out in the 7.  Box Up 1.5.7.8

LOCAL INDUSTRY NEWS

VALE – CHARLIE IRWIN

GRSA was saddened to hear the news that Charlie Irwin passed away this week in Queensland. Charlie was a long standing participant in the SA Industry over many decades where he owned, trained and bred greyhounds. Condolences to Charlie’s family during this time.

IT’S CLASSIFIED EQUALS LONG STANDING TRACK RECORD AT GAWLER

Quick times were the order of the day at Gawler on Tuesday however It’s Classified for trainer Troy Murray showed his full potential by equaling the 531m track record. He began nicely from box 5 in a small field of 6 runners and was able to pounce on the early lead. From there he raced away from his opposition winning by an ever increasing 11 lengths in a blistering 30.23. This equals Regional Image’s track record set on 1st July 2003.

OAKS AND DERBY TRIAL RESULTS

On Monday night at Angle Park the Interstaters arrived with two Coffex Coffee SA Oaks trials and one BGC SA Derby trial.

The NSW kennels of Judith Fisher trialled lightly raced Dokmai who has had 4 starts for 2 wins and 2 placings over the 515m in preparation for the Oaks where she ran 4.51, 17.13, 30.19. She also trialled Espanyol over the 388m in preparation for the Derby. He has a handy record of 6 starts for 2 wins and 3 placings and he ran 10.09, 22.46.

NSW trainer Douglas Rogers trialled Camden Valleyway for the SA Oaks where she boasts an impressive record of 9 wins and 2 placings from just 13 starts and has recorded a 30.09 win at Wentworth Park. She ran 4.53, 17.17, 30.12 for the 515m journey.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS AT CANNINGTON THIS SATURDAY

After the running of the National State Finals Thursday week ago both Alex’s Entity for Ben Rawlings and Psychotic Gold for Petar Jovanovic will take on the best in the land representing SA at Wentworth Park on Saturday night in the National Sprint Championship and National Distance Championship Finals respectively.  Only the best greyhounds from each State have made it through to Saturday night, all chasing Group 1 glory and the winner’s purse of $75,000.

Alex’s Entity has drawn box 7 and does look to have the job ahead of him. He trialled on Saturday at Wentworth Park running 5.57/18.09/29.99 over the 520m which was a very nice effort.  He will need a quick beginning to put himself right in the firing line and who knows what might happen on the first turn. He is up against a high quality field including star Victorian Fernando Bale, Queenslander Keybow and Bessy Boo from the host State.

The son of Vee Man Vane and Girl Around has been quoted at $31.00 in early markets and rated one of the outsiders but no doubt he will be giving his all for SA and his connections in the Group 1 feature.

We are also at double figure odds in the Distance Final with the Petar Jovanovic stayer Psychotic Gold quoted at $21.00 which seems nice odds for a greyhound who ran third behind Space Star at the Meadows in February and boasts a fabulous record over the staying trip.

The daughter of Vapour Whirl and Molly’s Gold has already had a look at the Wentworth Park track earlier in the year when 5th behind Space Star in a heat of the Group 1 Association Cup. She will however have to overcome star stayers like Victorian’s Sweet It Is and Lay Toy along with NSW local Magic Earner. In her favour is her trainer who knows how to win a National Title as he has climbed that mountain before.

Good luck to all runners in Saturday nights National Finals especially the South Aussies and hopefully SA can take out the titles which haven’t been won since 1993 for the Sprint with Casino Tom and 2006 for the Distance with Bothing.

AGRA Neil Brown has compiled a comprehensive preview of the National Finals which we have included on the GRSA website at www.grsa.com.au .

WATERLOO CUP NEXT SUNDAY

The time honoured Waterloo Cup will be run on Sunday 30th August at Virginia. They will also have the Oaks and Derby on a terrific program of coursing.

COFFEX COFFEE SA OAKS & BGC INDUSTRIAL CLEANING SUPPLIES SA DERBY

Owners and trainers are reminded that the Oaks & Derby at Angle Park is getting closer. A reminder to trainers about the eligibility and conditions of both these series which has our races listed as one of the few AGRA Age Restricted Classics for the season. The whelping date of both the Oaks and Derby is for greyhounds whelped 30 months prior to the heats so to be eligible for both series your greyhound will have to be whelped on or after 1st March 2013. The other requirement is that Maidens are ineligible so your greyhound has to have won a race.

The series will be a two week series with Open Heats and a Final.

The Dates are:

Coffex Coffee SA Oaks (Group 3):

$4,415 Heats x 8 – Thursday 3rd September

SPUD REGIS @ STUD TO SPONSOR RACE MEETING ON 27TH AUGUST

The Angle Park meeting on Thursday 27th August will be sponsored greyhound sire Spud Regis with all races on the program named after the Group 1 winning sprinter. As a bonus to connections of each winner on the night they will receive a free service to Spud Regis which must be used within a 12 month period after the race meeting. This sponsorship for this night is worth more than $10,000 so we thank Brian Treloar and those associated with Spud Regis. It is anticipated that around the same time there will be meetings in NSW, Tasmania and Victoria with the same offering for each race on the night.

GAWLER SHOW DATES

August means that it is coming up to Gawler Show time, so a couple of weeks of racing at Gawler will be transferred to Angle Park this year.

This year the Annual Gawler Show will be held on the weekend of Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th August. Racing on Tuesday 25th August and Tuesday 1st September will be at Angle Park. These will be Angle Park Provincial (APD) fixtures with normal Tuesday prizemoney and will be raced with the Finish On Lure. Racing on Friday 28th August will be at Mount Gambier.

Trials will be cancelled at Gawler on Wednesday 26th August and Thursday 27th August. We will hopefully have the track ready to trial again on Wednesday 2nd September, but this will be dependent on the weather over the show weekend. There will be no Qualifying Trials at Gawler on Wednesday 19th August, as the following Tuesday is at Angle Park. There will be trials as per normal at Angle Park on Tuesday 25th August and Saturday 29th August.

CHANGE IN PAPERWORK FOR PRIZEMONEY

From 1st September 2015 the paperwork for directing prizemoney will change. In the past the paperwork refers to the owner directing where which account the prizemoney goes. GRSA has had no option but to direct all greyhounds owned by that person into their specific account. From 1st September the paperwork will refer to the greyhound so this will provide flexibility for each owner to have different conditions (if required) for each greyhound.

For example if an owner has 10 dogs with prizemoney all going into the same account under the same conditions then they only need to fill out one form naming all 10 greyhounds however if there are 10 different agreements for these greyhounds then they will need to complete 10 different forms for each dog.

As previously advised it is up to the owner of the greyhound to ensure prizemoney paperwork has been lodged prior to the greyhound racing to ensure payment is made correctly.

**All existing prizemoney accounts remain the same unless directed by the owners and updated account information is provided**

BARGIN STEEL CENTRE AS A NEW SPONSOR

GRSA has a new sponsor with Bargain Steel Centre confirming their involvement. They will have naming rights to the SA Sprint Championship to be run in January 2016, as well as many other benefits by being involved with GRSA.

After BGC and now Bargain Steel Centre becoming involved in sponsorship its terrific news for our industry.

STRATHALBYN TRIALS AT RACE MEETINGS

The Strathalbyn Greyhound Racing Club has advised that for any future trials at race meetings these will be conducted after the last race. Please contact the club if you are looking to trail on a race day.
