Angle Park Preview

Racing News

Well there was certainly a few upsets here last week and as I mentioned when it looks easy on paper it’s often not.  The highlight on tonight’s programme is Race 8, the Stayers Cup final, which has an $11,788 jackpot in the trifecta pool and it looks to be a ripper.  The distance races are always a good betting race and this should be no different.

Race 1 and the inside three look to be the main chances.  All have different racing styles.  I am going with the Ray Murray trained Aston Kane.  He is a front runner and hopefully he will ping and win from box 2.  He’s A Villain is in great form and will be very hard to beat with a clear run as he is very strong over the last 100m.  Box Up 1.2.3.5

Race 2 and Aussie Noorumba has been around the mark of late and gets a chance to break back into the winners circle in this.  He can be hit and miss early but is strong.  Mighty Quoted for Carole Scott is well drawn and might get a clear run from box 1 so she is a must for the trifecta.  Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 3 and as we saw last week there is no such thing as a certainty, which was Real Flash, she was slow out and well beaten at short odds.  I will forgive her as she had been in sizzling form prior and should prove far too good for her rivals in this, but again she will be very skinny odds.  Add in Jaunty Bale and Lucky Road out wide.  So we will go 4 from 2.7.8 Boxed.

The 4th and this is a wide open affair with several chances.  I am going with the Victorian visitor Paranoia in box 2.  He hasn’t missed a place here in 5 starts and should be very competitive again.  Fast Noodle has won his past two over the short at Gawler and looks primed for this along with Magneto Bale who has been a runner up at his last three.  Box Up 2.3.4.5

The 5th and this is the 600m event of the night and Genghis Kahn has worked back to his best form and won well here last Thursday over the sprint.  He should prove too smart again over his pet trip and we can add in Ash Flash, Supersonic Hawk and Mi Diablo for the First 4.  Box Up 3.4.7.8

Race 6 and I like the book ends in this Sandave Gem in box 1 and the newcomer Access out in box 8, who has joined the Ray Murray kennel.  Both have pace and either will prove hard to beat.  Long Gully Mark is another who is racing well and can’t be left out.  Box Up 1.4.7.8

Race 7 and winning form is very hard to go past and so we must stick with Gun McBain, he has won his last 5 here all in top company.  So we will make him a stand out for the trifecta. Barnes Bay will be carving from box 8, so he is a must for us along with Alex’s Entity.  Go 2 from 3.6.8.

The 8th and this is the Stayers Cup final and there is a fair share of early pace in this so it will be a matter of who can get the clear run to the 1st turn.  Zipping Bart has been in good form with 3 wins from his last 4 and should be the pace setter.  Grifter Bale has been flying over the 600m and resumed over the journey here last week with a win.  So he is the big improver for mine.  Dakota Ruby found trouble in the run last week and can add some value in the trifecta along with the Gavin Harris trained Springvale Clint. Box Up 1.2.3.7

The 9th and this is another good betting race with several chances.  Jeddy Bale flew home here last week from box 7 and was only beaten 0.50L in quick time so she is a must for the trifecta.  Rajas Onyx is very capable on his night and has the perfect draw down in box 1 along with Macmarcus.  Box Up 1.2.5.7

Race 10 and Angela Modra has Yiche flying at the moment and from box 5.  She should lead and win again and appears one of the better bets on the programme.  Kalden Legenda is always around the mark and from box 1 and can finish in the placings.  Danyo’s Luke is slow early but will be working home late so he can pinch a place.  Box Up 1.3.5.7

The final event is race 11 and let’s hope we are in front as this is a tough race to pick the winner with several chances and no standouts.  I like the outside brigade starting from box 5 with Rajas Green Man then the 6 and 7 along with 8.  Box them up and let’s hope for a big win.

LOCAL INDUSTRY NEWS

STAYERS CUP FINAL TONIGHT

The feature on tonights Angle Park program is no doubt the $5,000 Stayer’s Cup Final where it appears to be a match race between Zipping Bart and Grifter Bale. Both won their heats in impressive fashion last week and will be eyeballing each other as they have drawn right next door. There are certainly other chances in the race if the favorites falter with the likes of Springvale Clint, Miss Party Girl, Dakota Ruby and Macca’s Sway all looking to pounce.

Tonights feature is Race 8 on the program due to start at 9.12pm (SA Time).

As an added bonus for those oncourse at Angle Park tonight the Henley Raider’s Rugby Club will be having their annual fundraiser and as part of this they will have three free services available in a silent auction. They have 2 to Spud Regis and 1 to Ernie Bung Arrow kindly donated. So if your oncourse tonight you may be able secure a service to one of these outstanding champions of our industry.

BGC INDUSTRIAL CLEANING SUPPLIES ON BOARD FOR SA DERBY

Barry from BGC Industrial Cleaning Supplies has come on board to sponsor this years Group 3 SA Derby. The SA Derby is one of the most sought after feature races on our calendar with some of the best greyhounds ever to race at Angle Park taking out this event. It’s another terrific boost for our industry to have BGC sponsor this feature race.

The BGC Industrial Cleaning Supplies SA Derby will be have heats on Thursday 10th September 2015 with the $35,000 Group 3 final on Thursday 17th September 2015.

LICENSE RENEWALS DUE
It’s time to renew your license which will expire on the 30th June 2015.  It is vital that you renew your license before the cut off time to ensure no greyhounds will miss a run.  Renewal have been sent out from GRSA however many participants will have renewed for two years last year so may not need to. Check with Owners locally and from Interstate to ensure all licenses are renewed well and truly before June 30th.

FUTURITY PAYMENTS DUE TOMORROW – FRIDAY 26TH JUNE
Owners of SA Bred greyhounds are reminded that the next batch of Futurity payments are due on Friday 26th June 2015. There will be three series for which payments will need to be made.

The payments due are:
Classic 2015 – Final Payment Pups Born July 13 to Dec 13
This payment is for greyhounds for which the first two Sustaining Payments have been made. The Final Payment is $121 per greyhound.

Breeders 2016– Second Payment - Pups Born Jan 14 to June 14
This payment is for greyhounds for which the first Sustaining Payments or a “one-off” Final payment was made last December. The Second Sustaining Payment is $55 per pup or a Final Payment of $121 can be made at this stage.

Classic 2016– First Payment - Pups Born July 14 to Dec 14
Finally the First Payment is due for Classic 2016. All SA Bred greyhounds born in the above period are eligible to make this payment. The First Payment is $27.50 per pup or a “one-off” Final payment of $121 can be made at this stage.

To assist all owners of Futurity eligible pups, reminders have been posted. It is perhaps a good idea to make the payment as soon as you can, so it doesn’t slip your mind and the closing date passes. If you have sold a pup/s we would ask if you can either forward on the information or let Caralyn Fielden know at GRSA and she can follow it up.  If you haven’t received a reminder and you think you should have, contact us asap.

UPDATED BREEDING RULES FROM 1ST JULY

From the 1st July there will be new breeding rules in place regarding the Registration of a Breeding Female, reporting of Litters and Breeding Restrictions. The Breeding Female is to do with registering your bitch for a Pink Card before you breed from her. She needs to be DNA tested and registered before she can breed. The changes to rules make it clear that all paperwork and processes have to be completed before she can be inseminated. Please update yourself with the new conditions in kennel capers, on the GRSA website or contact GRSA Animal Welfare Officer Belinda Pearce.

POLICY RELEASED FOR TRIALLING AT ANGLE PARK AND GAWLER BEFORE THE RACE MEETING

The Industry Consultative Group recently met and discussed the trialling policies at race meetings and in particular how the Monday nights Angle Park structured policy has been accepted. The ICG panel decided to accept the Monday night policy for all Angle Park (except Thursday night) and Gawler meetings allowing for trialling to be conducted between kennels closing and the start of the first race. Kenneling times for these meetings will be extended by 15 minutes to allow for these trials to occur the same as Monday night.

The policy will now be introduced for Angle Park Monday & Wednesday along with Gawler Tuesday, Friday and Sunday to start from the Angle Park Monday meeting 4th May 2015. This will now be the sole policy for trialling at race meetings.

RACE MEETING TRIAL POLICY
Angle Park Monday & Wednesday along with Gawler Tuesday, Friday, Sunday (commencing Monday’s meeting - 4 May 2015)
Two fields from the boxes with  a maximum of four (4) greyhounds will be conducted immediately following the completion of the kennelling procedure for the Race Meeting.
The following lists the order in which greyhounds will be selected in the event if more than 8 greyhounds nominated.
1)         Reserves at the Meeting that do not obtain starts.
2)         Trainers that have greyhounds engaged and are located in an area affected by track closures.
3)         Trainers that have greyhounds engaged.
4)         Satisfactory trials.
5)         Other greyhounds.

PROCEDURE/CRITERIA
1)         For Monday nights trainer to contact GRSA between 10.00am and 11.00am on the Monday to nominate. Should the Monday be a public holiday bookings are to be made between 8am and 9am on the scratching line on the Monday.

2)         For Angle Park Wednesday, Gawler Tuesday & Friday trainer to contact GRSA between 9.00am and 10.00am on the day to nominate.

3)         For Gawler Sunday trainer to contact GRSA between 8.00am and 9.00am on the scratching line on the day to nominate.

4)         Other than reserve greyhounds Trainers will be restricted to trialling one (1) greyhound unless nominations determine otherwise.
5)         Stewards allot the Box for the Greyhound.
6)         Trials will be 515m & 531m in distance as first preference. Other distances considered depending on nominations.
7)         Greyhounds currently under suspension or not cleared to race are not eligible to be nominated.(these trials are conducted as if they are at a race meeting so all greyhounds need to be eligible at nomination time)
8)         Greyhound registration certificate or cards must be produced at kennelling time.
9)         Trainers with other greyhounds engaged can utilize the extra kennel space until such time they are ready to leave OR trainers with no other greyhounds will be free to leave following their trial.

Please Note
Kennelling times will be 15 minutes earlier for these meetings from 4th May to allow for these trials.

·         If there are 12 races at Angle Park or Gawler there will be NO trials.

·         The Vet Clinic at these meetings cannot be used to accommodate any greyhounds to allow for extra trialling greyhounds. This policy has been introduced so that participants book in under the policy. The Vet Clinic needs to be available for the Vet and Stewards at race meetings

Exceptions to this Policy–

·         Thursday nights are kept available for the option for Interstate greyhounds to solo trial in a lead up to our Group races and also local greyhound’s trialling for Group racing interstate.

·         Local greyhounds will be allowed to solo trial in a lead up to a feature race upon request and they will take one of the eight kennels available for trialling ahead of the policy and sit separately to the 4 dog trials. Feature races are considered to be – Adelaide Cup, Gawler Cup, Oaks, Derby, Howard Ashton, Brian Johnstone, SA Sprint, SA Distance Championship, SA Anniversary Cup, SA Country Cup, National Finals & any Group race Interstate.

·         Local greyhounds will be allowed to trial on a race night, where they are in preparation for a feature event and nominated for a meeting and the race does not stand up. This will include all distances and also take precedence over the policy.

·         If a greyhound qualifies for a feature final and requires a trial in between this will be conducted as a solo trial and sit separately to the 2 four dog trials.

Whilst these changes increase the time between kennelling and the first race by 15 minutes it should provide an opportunity for more trialling opportunities for one and two dog trainers in particular.

It is extremely important that trainers book in to trial at these race meetings. No trials will be accepted outside of these booking times.
