Angle Park Preview

11/06/2015
Racing News

It looks a fairly even night on the punt with the big highlight being race 2 on the programme as we see the return to South Australia of the Troy Murray trained Real Flash.  She was a last start winner in Western Australia winning the Group 2 WA Oaks and is boxed to win.  It will be interesting to see how quick she can go as she carved out a sensational 29.49 early last month here from box 8.

Race 1 and it is an interesting start to the night as there are several runners who would be normally running over the 600m.  They are dropping back to the sprint here and all will be right in the finish.  They are the 3, 4 and the 5 and I will put them all in our trifecta.  Add in the pacey Aston Kane out wide.  Box up 3.4.5.8

Race 2 and this is the highlight as mentioned before because we get to see Real Flash go around.  She will be very skinny odds so we will need to get the first 4 so let’s go with 1 from 2.3.5 boxed for the trifecta and the first 4.

Race 3 and the inform kennel of Ben Rawlings looks to have a strong hold with their runner in Placid Planet.  He has struggled here at his past couple but when on the lure is very smart and he is boxed for a bold showing.  Black Bottle can improve along with Sandave Gem.  Box Up 1.2.3.6

The 4th and I am going with a frontrunner here in Yiche, she is in form and has tardy beginner’s either side so she is my top pick.  Allen Hodney will be running on late along with Galaxy Snow.  Box Up 1.4.5.8

The 5th and there is a bit of value in this event and the punters elect will be Peejay Jack in box 5.  He has been ultra-consistent and will be right in the mix again.  Add in Breaker Kahn who could be the big improver along with Viral Bale.  Box Up 1.2.5.8

The 6th and another open affair with at least 4 main chances and they all have a good turn of early pace so the run to the 1st turn will be vital.  I will go with Lochinvar Akira down in box 1, she can kick up and take beating.  The Rawlings kennel could be in for a big night if Alex’s Entity continues his good form.  Add in Young Gun McBain for the trifecta.  Box Up 1.4.6.8.

Race 7 would have seen Gun McBain start favourite however he has been scratched. Kalden Gambino now looks the top pick and is always a chance in this type of race along with the pacey Barnes Bay. Alderley Reform cannot be left out of calculations however looks to be racing a little flat at present. If you are looking for value don’t leave out Aston Wingard at good each way odds.  Box Up 2.4.5.7

Race 8 and Fraya Bale is another who is in outstanding form and from box 2 she looks the measuring stick again and should lead throughout for another win.  Spicy Peppa has early pace and should be there in the finish along with Sunday Shoes.  Box Up 2.6.7.8 in a good betting race.

The 9th and there are 4 main chances again and they are all a chance of winning with early luck.  I am leaning towards Princely Bogan for the Hearnden kennel as he looks perfectly drawn down in box 1 and on his recent Gawler form will be hard to beat.  Ilys Bale can improve along with the pacey Koombooyana Kid.  Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 10 and Dee Ivy carved out a slick 29.98 win here last start from box 2 leading throughout.  She can do it again from box 1 on that effort for Dean Decrea.  Kalden Viseron has been in the money in his last 4 runs here and should be able to continue his good form and is a must for trifecta punters.  Box Up 1.3.4.6

The final event is race 11 and Kenny Gill looks to have a handy one in Raglan Gun.  He has won 3 from 3 and has kept on improving his times.  Yoko Bale was a winner here last start from box 4 in 30.22 and looks well placed to be in the mix.  Box Up 2.3.6.7

LOCAL INDUSTRY NEWS

LICENSE RENEWALS DUE
It’s time to renew your license which will expire on the 30th June 2015.  It is vital that you renew your license before the cut off time to ensure no greyhounds will miss a run.  Renewal notices are being sent out this week from GRSA however many participants will have renewed for two years last year so may not need to. Check with Owners locally and from Interstate to ensure all licenses are renewed well and truly before June 30th.

UPDATED BREEDING RULES FROM 1ST JULY

From the 1st July there will be new breeding rules in place regarding the Registration of a Breeding Female, reporting of Litters and Breeding Restrictions. The Breeding Female is to do with registering your bitch for a Pink Card before you breed from her. She needs to be DNA tested and registered before she can breed. The changes to rules make it clear that all paperwork and processes have to be completed before she can be inseminated. Please update yourself with the new conditions in kennel capers, on the GRSA website or contact GRSA Animal Welfare Officer Belinda Pearce.

2015 GAWLER BREEDERS HEATS
On Tuesday the 2015 Gawler Breeders Heats were held at the Northern circuit with three terrific heats. The qualifiers will now compete in next Tuesdays final worth $4,600.

Heats winners were –
Long Gully Magic – 30.61

Long Gully Ben – 30.71

Lady Xanthe – 30.65

LUNA JINX IN GROUP 1 BRISBANE GOLD CUP TONIGHT

SA owned Luna Jinx will be shooting for another Group 1 win when she steps out in race 7 tonight at Albion Park. She has drawn nicely in box 2 and should be further improved with another week in Brisbane after her solid second last week in the heats. The heats were won last week by Tuavasa Shek and Dzeko and along with Lady Toy they look the hardest to beat for SA’s star stayer. She should be able to find the rails early and with a clean passage she should be storming home at the finish. We wish Gavin Harris and her connections all the best.

The field and box draw is as follows:

1.         Tuavasa Shek                        Tony Brett

2.         Luna Jinx                             Tony Brett

3.         Cyndie’s Magic                       William Elson

4.         Cosmic Vee Bee                     Rob Britton

5.         Dzeko                                  Samuel Dart

6.         Zipping Maggie                       Peter Dapiran

7.         Hougenie                              Peter Ruetschi

8.         Lady Toy                  Brooke Ennis

9.         Reality Ghost (res)       Les Lewis

If unsure of a greyhound’s status, please contact the GRSA grading staff.

POLICY RELEASED FOR TRIALLING AT ANGLE PARK AND GAWLER BEFORE THE RACE MEETING

The Industry Consultative Group recently met and discussed the trialling policies at race meetings and in particular how the Monday nights Angle Park structured policy has been accepted. The ICG panel decided to accept the Monday night policy for all Angle Park (except Thursday night) and Gawler meetings allowing for trialling to be conducted between kennels closing and the start of the first race. Kenneling times for these meetings will be extended by 15 minutes to allow for these trials to occur the same as Monday night.

The policy will now be introduced for Angle Park Monday & Wednesday along with Gawler Tuesday, Friday and Sunday to start from the Angle Park Monday meeting 4th May 2015. This will now be the sole policy for trialling at race meetings.

RACE MEETING TRIAL POLICY
Angle Park Monday & Wednesday along with Gawler Tuesday, Friday, Sunday (commencing Monday’s meeting - 4 May 2015)
Two fields from the boxes with  a maximum of four (4) greyhounds will be conducted immediately following the completion of the kennelling procedure for the Race Meeting.
The following lists the order in which greyhounds will be selected in the event if more than 8 greyhounds nominated.
1)          Reserves at the Meeting that do not obtain starts.
2)          Trainers that have greyhounds engaged and are located in an area affected by track closures.
3)          Trainers that have greyhounds engaged.
4)          Satisfactory trials.
5)          Other greyhounds.

PROCEDURE/CRITERIA
1)          For Monday nights trainer to contact GRSA between 10.00am and 11.00am on the Monday to nominate. Should the Monday be a public holiday bookings are to be made between 8am and 9am on the scratching line on the Monday.

2)          For Angle Park Wednesday, Gawler Tuesday & Friday trainer to contact GRSA between 9.00am and 10.00am on the day to nominate.

3)          For Gawler Sunday trainer to contact GRSA between 8.00am and 9.00am on the scratching line on the day to nominate.

4)          Other than reserve greyhounds Trainers will be restricted to trialling one (1) greyhound unless nominations determine otherwise.
5)          Stewards allot the Box for the Greyhound.
6)          Trials will be 515m & 531m in distance as first preference. Other distances considered depending on nominations.
7)          Greyhounds currently under suspension or not cleared to race are not eligible to be nominated.(these trials are conducted as if they are at a race meeting so all greyhounds need to be eligible at nomination time)
8)          Greyhound registration certificate or cards must be produced at kennelling time.
9)          Trainers with other greyhounds engaged can utilize the extra kennel space until such time they are ready to leave OR trainers with no other greyhounds will be free to leave following their trial.

Please Note
Kennelling times will be 15 minutes earlier for these meetings from 4th May to allow for these trials.

·         If there are 12 races at Angle Park or Gawler there will be NO trials.

·         The Vet Clinic at these meetings cannot be used to accommodate any greyhounds to allow for extra trialling greyhounds. This policy has been introduced so that participants book in under the policy. The Vet Clinic needs to be available for the Vet and Stewards at race meetings

Exceptions to this Policy–

·         Thursday nights are kept available for the option for Interstate greyhounds to solo trial in a lead up to our Group races and also local greyhound’s trialling for Group racing interstate.

·         Local greyhounds will be allowed to solo trial in a lead up to a feature race upon request and they will take one of the eight kennels available for trialling ahead of the policy and sit separately to the 4 dog trials. Feature races are considered to be – Adelaide Cup, Gawler Cup, Oaks, Derby, Howard Ashton, Brian Johnstone, SA Sprint, SA Distance Championship, SA Anniversary Cup, SA Country Cup, National Finals & any Group race Interstate.

·         Local greyhounds will be allowed to trial on a race night, where they are in preparation for a feature event and nominated for a meeting and the race does not stand up. This will include all distances and also take precedence over the policy.

·         If a greyhound qualifies for a feature final and requires a trial in between this will be conducted as a solo trial and sit separately to the 2 four dog trials.

Whilst these changes increase the time between kennelling and the first race by 15 minutes it should provide an opportunity for more trialling opportunities for one and two dog trainers in particular.

It is extremely important that trainers book in to trial at these race meetings. No trials will be accepted outside of these booking times.
