TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

There were highlights a plenty here last Thursday with the final of the Howard Ashton event and the heats of the Shane McQueen, we see the final of the latter in race 8 on the programme tonight and it is an absolute beauty with several chances.

Race 1 and we can kick off with a winner in the Angela Modra trained Yiche.  She is in terrific form of late with good wins here and at Gawler and is drawn for a bold showing again.  Allen Hodney will be flying home late along with the ultra-consistent Kalden Legenda.  Box Up 1.3.6.8

Race 2 and this is a real toughie as the box draw has made it difficult for several runners.  I’m leaning towards the inside 4 but not with a huge amount of confidence.  This looks a good race to go wide on.  Let’s all have a go on the trifecta selecting 1.2 from 1.2.3.4.from 1.2.3.4 .7 (good luck)

The 3rd event and the newcomer from Victoria in Alex’s Entity who hasn’t put a paw wrong in two runs since crossing the border with wins here in slick times.  He will be very hard to beat again.  Big Zap will be running on late and is a must for trifecta punters.  Add in Black Bottle for value and Gunsmoke McBain.  Box Up 2.4.7.8

Race 4 and Spicy Peppa has been a little hit and miss of late but is drawn to run a very cheeky race in this.  Jaunty Bale is well drawn and will be making late ground from a favourable draw along with Sunday Shoes.  Box Up 2.3.4.8

Race 5 and this is a good even event with several chances.  Anisa Bale fell here last start over the 600m and drops back to the sprint tonight.  She looks well placed and is a big chance. Sandave Gem is another who is racing well and should run into the placings.  Fraya Bale is a punters favourite and can’t be overlooked.  Box Up 1.2.3.4

The 6th and Coorong Kid can return to his winning form from box 1.  He hasn’t had a huge amount of luck in recent runs but is drawn for a bold showing in this.  Lannister has been in form of late and will be the one running on late.  Young Gun McBain has a good turn of pace and it wouldn’t surprise if he pinches this.  Box Up 1.2.5.7

The 7th and there are several with back to back wins and they are the 3 and the 6.  Both of them will be in the mix again.  I like Barnes Bay out in box 8 as he has pace and is a chance of crossing these in the run to the 1st turn.  Add in Antonia Tyson who has been in the money of late at big odds.  Box up 1.3.7.8

Race 8 is the Shane McQueen Final over the 600m, this looks like a good betting race.   Footluce Diva will start the punters elect and so she should on her latest form with 4 wins here on the trot over this trip all in quick times.  Grifter Bale is from the inform kennel of Ben Rawlings and is a huge chance again, and is boxed to run a bold race.   He’s A Villian found a heap of trouble here in the heat but still managed to qualify.  Box Up 1.2.7.8

The 9th and we have a newcomer in Cawbourne Kayono.  He has won 12 of 52 with 15 placing’s.  The well-travelled chaser has won at Bendigo and at Wentworth Park in his last 4 so on those performances he will be very hard to beat.  Add Placid Planet who has been in good form at Gawler of late and should be right in the mix.  Box Up 3.4.7.8

Race 10 and Electric Impulse has been carving up the track of late with 3 wins from her last 4 runs here.  She has pace and will be very hard to beat from box 5.  The Kenny Gill trained One Eyed Watto is another who is very consistent and is a must for pick 4 punters.  Box Up 2.3.4.5

The Final event on a big night of racing, Race 11, and Dee Ivy hopefully sends us home on a winning note.  She looks ideally drawn in box 2 and should prove the measuring stick.  Eye Ball Paul looks to have a handy future and should be put in the top 4 along with Mordor Bale.   Box up 2.4.5.6

LICENSE RENEWALS DUE ON 30TH JUNE 2015

Please be advised that your license renewal will be due on Tuesday 30th June 2015. We will be sending out renewals to those requiring to update their license shortly however with most participants renewing for two years last year many will not have to go through this process this year.

Please check your license card to confirm the expiry date.

With the date being the 30th June it is vital that you license before the cut of time to ensure no greyhounds will miss a run. Check with Owners locally and from Interstate as this has been an issue in recent years and get the licenses renewed well and truly before June 30.

SHANE MCQUEEN FINAL TONIGHT

In the second heat Footluce Diva for Ken Trowbridge continued her good form when she was also able to lead throughout and record a slick 34.99 for the 600m journey. She won by 1 length from Winbrook who returned to something like his best in running second with Freesia Bale hanging on well for third.

In the final heat Grifter Bale for Ben Rawlings showed his class with a strong win when he overcame a slow start to lead most of the way in a solid 35.11. He defeated Supersonic Hawk by 3 lengths with Young Gun McBain a further 4 lengths back in third.

LUNA JINX IN BRISBANE CUP HEATS TONIGHT

Local superstar stayer Luna Jinx is at Albion Park tonight contesting heats of the Group 1 Brisbane Cup. Regular trainer Gavin Harris has sent her up north to be trained by Tony Brett and last week she showed she was in exceptional form by trialing in 41.7 at Albion Park.

Tonight she is heat 1, which is race 3 on the program and she has drawn box 4. Her main challenge will come from Dzeko which has drawn the pole however with only two heats she only needs to run in the first four to quality for next weeks Group 1 final. In the second heat, which is race 4, the main chances appear to be Lady Toy and Hougenie.

Good Luck to all concerned with Luna Jinx tonight.

SOUTH AUSSIE REAL FLASH WINS THE WA OAKS

South Australian REAL FLASH crossed from box five and led throughout to take out the Group 2 WA Oaks at just her 10th career start last Saturday night at Cannington.

After having won at Angle Park in 29.49 earlier in the month, trainer Troy Murray decided to bring the blue bitch to WA to have a crack at the feature final with $40,000 added to her winner’s purse.

Before her win she had amassed just $9,000 in stakes. Her first sectional split of 5.61 set up her win as she scored by two-and-a-half-lengths over the race favourite and Victorian Weblec Belle and WA chaser Ruble Monelli third.

Stepping very cleanly from box five, the daughter of Vee Man Vane and Bonegilla Flash got clear room to move early and hit the accelerator, racing to the lead in the run to the winning post on the first occasion ahead of Ruble Monelli (box three) and Weblec Belle (box two).

Heading down the back and Real Flash was out in front, off and gone. Despite a strong finish from Victorian bitch Weblec Belle, Real Flash proved too good in the run to the line and scored a second WA Oaks for trainer Troy Murray. One of South Australia’s leading mentors Troy won the Oaks in 2005 with Estella,

Real Flash ran sections of 5.61, 18.74 and a run home of 11.52, the overall time for the final was 30.26. She is raced by the Roofless Truckers Syndicate with the Group 2 Oaks win taking her record to 10 starts for five wins and four placings and prizemoney earnings of $49,135.

2015 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The AGRA National Championships are just around the corner. The National Finals this year will be held at Wentworth Park in New South Wales to be conducted on Saturday 22nd August. Both the National Sprint and National Distance Finals will carry prizemoney of $75,000 to the winner.

The State series’ for SA will be held at Angle Park on Thursday 30th July for the Heats with the State Finals on the 6th August.

The most important date for local trainers to remember is the national closing date for entries. Acceptances for the National Championships will close with GRSA on Thursday 23rd July at 12 noon. Nominations must be on the prescribed form and the conditions of nomination must also be signed. The forms are available at GRSA and on the GRSA website.

A reminder to all trainers of the clause which requires a greyhound to have been domiciled in South Australia for a period of not less than 76 days out of the 150 days immediately prior to the National Acceptance Closing date to be eligible to represent SA. If unsure of a greyhound’s status, please contact the GRSA grading staff.

During this time the Maintenance staff will be painting the kennel house roof. This will be completed for racing for Monday night however there may still be a paint smell in the kennel house.

POLICY RELEASED FOR TRIALLING AT ANGLE PARK AND GAWLER BEFORE THE RACE MEETING

The Industry Consultative Group recently met and discussed the trialling policies at race meetings and in particular how the Monday nights Angle Park structured policy has been accepted. The ICG panel decided to accept the Monday night policy for all Angle Park (except Thursday night) and Gawler meetings allowing for trialling to be conducted between kennels closing and the start of the first race. Kenneling times for these meetings will be extended by 15 minutes to allow for these trials to occur the same as Monday night.

The policy will now be introduced for Angle Park Monday & Wednesday along with Gawler Tuesday, Friday and Sunday to start from the Angle Park Monday meeting 4th May 2015. This will now be the sole policy for trialling at race meetings.

RACE MEETING TRIAL POLICY
Angle Park Monday & Wednesday along with Gawler Tuesday, Friday, Sunday (commencing Monday’s meeting - 4 May 2015)
Two fields from the boxes with  a maximum of four (4) greyhounds will be conducted immediately following the completion of the kennelling procedure for the Race Meeting.
The following lists the order in which greyhounds will be selected in the event if more than 8 greyhounds nominated.
1)          Reserves at the Meeting that do not obtain starts.
2)          Trainers that have greyhounds engaged and are located in an area affected by track closures.
3)          Trainers that have greyhounds engaged.
4)          Satisfactory trials.
5)          Other greyhounds.

PROCEDURE/CRITERIA
1)          For Monday nights trainer to contact GRSA between 10.00am and 11.00am on the Monday to nominate. Should the Monday be a public holiday bookings are to be made between 8am and 9am on the scratching line on the Monday.

2)          For Angle Park Wednesday, Gawler Tuesday & Friday trainer to contact GRSA between 9.00am and 10.00am on the day to nominate.

3)          For Gawler Sunday trainer to contact GRSA between 8.00am and 9.00am on the scratching line on the day to nominate.

4)          Other than reserve greyhounds Trainers will be restricted to trialling one (1) greyhound unless nominations determine otherwise.
5)          Stewards allot the Box for the Greyhound.
6)          Trials will be 515m & 531m in distance as first preference. Other distances considered depending on nominations.
7)          Greyhounds currently under suspension or not cleared to race are not eligible to be nominated.(these trials are conducted as if they are at a race meeting so all greyhounds need to be eligible at nomination time)
8)          Greyhound registration certificate or cards must be produced at kennelling time.
9)          Trainers with other greyhounds engaged can utilize the extra kennel space until such time they are ready to leave OR trainers with no other greyhounds will be free to leave following their trial.

Please Note
Kennelling times will be 15 minutes earlier for these meetings from 4th May to allow for these trials.

·         If there are 12 races at Angle Park or Gawler there will be NO trials.

·         The Vet Clinic at these meetings cannot be used to accommodate any greyhounds to allow for extra trialling greyhounds. This policy has been introduced so that participants book in under the policy. The Vet Clinic needs to be available for the Vet and Stewards at race meetings

Exceptions to this Policy–

·         Thursday nights are kept available for the option for Interstate greyhounds to solo trial in a lead up to our Group races and also local greyhound’s trialling for Group racing interstate.

·         Local greyhounds will be allowed to solo trial in a lead up to a feature race upon request and they will take one of the eight kennels available for trialling ahead of the policy and sit separately to the 4 dog trials. Feature races are considered to be – Adelaide Cup, Gawler Cup, Oaks, Derby, Howard Ashton, Brian Johnstone, SA Sprint, SA Distance Championship, SA Anniversary Cup, SA Country Cup, National Finals & any Group race Interstate.

·         Local greyhounds will be allowed to trial on a race night, where they are in preparation for a feature event and nominated for a meeting and the race does not stand up. This will include all distances and also take precedence over the policy.

·         If a greyhound qualifies for a feature final and requires a trial in between this will be conducted as a solo trial and sit separately to the 2 four dog trials.

Whilst these changes increase the time between kennelling and the first race by 15 minutes it should provide an opportunity for more trialling opportunities for one and two dog trainers in particular.

It is extremely important that trainers book in to trial at these race meetings. No trials will be accepted outside of these booking times.
