Angle Park Preview

21/05/2015
Racing News

Tonight’s racing has a good mix over the three distances and two very good Semis of the Howard Ashton Group 3 Feature, race’s 6 and 7 on the programme.  If that’s not enough we have a bumper 12 races tonight.  Then we also see Luna Jinx over the distance who should set the track alight in race 3 and Kalden Legenda shooting for 11 straight in race 1.

Race 1 and we couldn’t possibly go past Kalden Legenda.  He notched up his 10th in a row here two weeks ago and there is no reason why he can’t win again.  Add in Galaxy Snow from box 1 along with Victa Scott.  Box Up 1.2.6.7

Race 2 and the two main chances look to be Ilys Bale down in box 1 and Jeddy Bale in box 4.  Both are kennel mates and they look the ones to fight out the finish.  Box up the inside 4 1.2.3.4

Race 3 is the distance affair of the night and Luna Jinx will start a very short priced favourite and she should be far too strong in the small field.  We will make her the stand out for the trifecta 8 from 2 and 4.

Race 4 and there is a heap of early pace in this and I like a little spice in my food so I will go with Spicy Peppa.  She is well drawn out in box 8 and will give them something to catch.  Cash In Looper is well drawn down in box 1 and will be rattling home late.  Box Up 1.2.7.8

Race 5 and this is a toughie with a heap of chances.  Lannister has been racing well of late and is well drawn in box 1.  Rum Punch has won 2 of his last 3 and is another who will be right in the mix.  Box Up 1.2.4.6.

The 6th and Aussie Noorumba appears one of the BEST BETS of the night as he has been racing well of late and should prove too good from the rails draw.  There are a heap of chances for the minors in Long Gully Ben and Lucky Fergo.  Box Up 1.2.4.6

Race 7 and the main chances are all coming from the middle draws so they will need a lot of luck in the run to the 1st turn.  Lady Xanthe gets the nod for me from Mrs Bubbles.  Box up 1.3.4.5. in a great betting affair.

Race 8 and this is a terrific race that oozes class.  The inside 4 are all racing well and will be in the firing line and all have a good turn of pace so all look a chance.  Then we must go to the widest runner in Barnes Bay who is very smart when on the lure.  Box Up 1.2.3.8

This is the 600m of the night with a small field of 5.  Freesia Bale will start the punters elect and will be flying home late.  I like He’s A Villian out in box 8.  He is well suited by the small field and is a chance of crossing so we will go with 8.1.4.2 in order.

Race 10 is a good open affair and there doesn’t look to be a stand out for mine.  So we will go for a trifecta with value.  Box Up 2.3.5.7 and we can only hope we can pinch this as it should pay well.

Race 11 and there is a lot of hit and miss beginners in this affair so the run to the first turn will be vital.  Pelican Keeping is well drawn and will be very hard to beat.  Add in Anisa Bale and Castanea.  Box up 1.3.5.6

The final event, race 12 and we can go home on a winner in Wayne’s Error.  He is the in-form runner and was a quick winner here last start.  Box up 1.5.6.8

TODD GRAY PREVIEWS TONIGHT'S HOWARD ASHTON SEMI FINALS

Tonight at Angle Park see’s the running of the semi-finals of the Group 3 Howard Ashton, with the top 4 runners making the $37,500 Group 3 final next week and the two 5ths filling the reserves. The box draw will be conducted oncourse after the running of race 8 tonight.

This event has shown good support and brings together two semi-finals with a fair amount of depth.

Race 6 – 8.28pm (Semi-Final 1)

It seems that every preview I’ve done I always seem to end up potting Aussie Noorumba but she keeps coming up with the inside draws, I’ll say it again, talent wise clearly the best but I’m always happy to risk her off the inside draws and to make it worse there’s plenty of early pace here so I can see carnage on the first turn. I’m sticking to the inside runners I know will get clear run. Long Gully Ben on his best numbers can run you a solid 30.10 and will be right there to rail up on the first turn and won’t be the easiest to get around if in front. Gelignite Jack will be big odds and can fill a spot in the first four, he has been running sensational in recent feature races and will be a good thing when he drops back to a Maiden. Lucy Fergo is the strongest runner but will have to deal with the pace makers Girl From Alice which I must admit surprised me leading all the way running out the 515m trip easy enough and Galactic Viper which is my pick to lead but got run down easily enough by Check Yo Self in the heats which has already won a Breeders Prelude series. Yarramundi Hanna will need a lot of luck from box 8. All this goes out the window if the red holds the lead and avoids trouble but I’m saying that won’t happen.

Selections 2-4-7-3

Race 7 – 8.52pm (Semi-Final 2)

There’s going to be a lot of pressure going to this first turn with Long Gully Stevi, Lady Xanthe and Brett’s Magic all wanting the lead. Lady Xanthe should hold the front but she’s the most vulnerable of the three as she relies solely on leading. I’m leaning to Long Gully Stevi who is more solid and can run down Lady Xanthe where she couldn’t run her down. Mrs Bubbles is the big danger and I think she will be a super handy type in the near future and is the strength in the race but the draw is awful for her. Don’t know too much about Mojito Mayhem but didn’t mind its run in the heat, can’t leave it out of multiples. Scottish Thistle is the runner I give the each way hope, likes it out wide and stormed home in her heat and I think she can do it again for astute trainer Michael Stewart. I’m Mums and Emerely Lane look slightly out of their depth here. The 3 dog should lead and 7 should stay out of trouble and with a clear run watch out.

Selection 3-7-5-4

And a special mention to Kalden Legenda who is going for 11 wins in a row. He is in race 1 due to start at 6.42pm and has drawn a much tougher Veterans race this week. He should lead again but they will all be challenging at the finish. Let’s hope he can hang on!

POLICY RELEASED FOR TRIALLING AT ANGLE PARK AND GAWLER BEFORE THE RACE MEETING

The Industry Consultative Group recently met and discussed the trialling policies at race meetings and in particular how the Monday nights Angle Park structured policy has been accepted. The ICG panel decided to accept the Monday night policy for all Angle Park (except Thursday night) and Gawler meetings allowing for trialling to be conducted between kennels closing and the start of the first race. Kenneling times for these meetings will be extended by 15 minutes to allow for these trials to occur the same as Monday night.

The policy will now be introduced for Angle Park Monday & Wednesday along with Gawler Tuesday, Friday and Sunday to start from the Angle Park Monday meeting 4th May 2015. This will now be the sole policy for trialling at race meetings.

RACE MEETING TRIAL POLICY
Angle Park Monday & Wednesday along with Gawler Tuesday, Friday, Sunday (commencing Monday’s meeting - 4 May 2015)
Two fields from the boxes with  a maximum of four (4) greyhounds will be conducted immediately following the completion of the kennelling procedure for the Race Meeting.
The following lists the order in which greyhounds will be selected in the event if more than 8 greyhounds nominated.
1)          Reserves at the Meeting that do not obtain starts.
2)          Trainers that have greyhounds engaged and are located in an area affected by track closures.
3)          Trainers that have greyhounds engaged.
4)          Satisfactory trials.
5)          Other greyhounds.

PROCEDURE/CRITERIA
1)          For Monday nights trainer to contact GRSA between 10.00am and 11.00am on the Monday to nominate. Should the Monday be a public holiday bookings are to be made between 8am and 9am on the scratching line on the Monday.

2)          For Angle Park Wednesday, Gawler Tuesday & Friday trainer to contact GRSA between 9.00am and 10.00am on the day to nominate.

3)          For Gawler Sunday trainer to contact GRSA between 8.00am and 9.00am on the scratching line on the day to nominate.

4)          Other than reserve greyhounds Trainers will be restricted to trialling one (1) greyhound unless nominations determine otherwise.
5)          Stewards allot the Box for the Greyhound.
6)          Trials will be 515m & 531m in distance as first preference. Other distances considered depending on nominations.
7)          Greyhounds currently under suspension or not cleared to race are not eligible to be nominated.(these trials are conducted as if they are at a race meeting so all greyhounds need to be eligible at nomination time)
8)          Greyhound registration certificate or cards must be produced at kennelling time.
9)          Trainers with other greyhounds engaged can utilize the extra kennel space until such time they are ready to leave OR trainers with no other greyhounds will be free to leave following their trial.

Please Note
Kennelling times will be 15 minutes earlier for these meetings from 4th May to allow for these trials.

·         If there are 12 races at Angle Park or Gawler there will be NO trials.

·         The Vet Clinic at these meetings cannot be used to accommodate any greyhounds to allow for extra trialling greyhounds. This policy has been introduced so that participants book in under the policy. The Vet Clinic needs to be available for the Vet and Stewards at race meetings

Exceptions to this Policy–

  • Thursday nights are kept available for the option for Interstate greyhounds to solo trial in a lead up to our Group races and also local greyhound’s trialling for Group racing interstate.
  • Local greyhounds will be allowed to solo trial in a lead up to a feature race upon request and they will take one of the eight kennels available for trialling ahead of the policy and sit separately to the 4 dog trials. Feature races are considered to be – Adelaide Cup, Gawler Cup, Oaks, Derby, Howard Ashton, Brian Johnstone, SA Sprint, SA Distance Championship, SA Anniversary Cup, SA Country Cup, National Finals & any Group race Interstate.
  •  Local greyhounds will be allowed to trial on a race night, where they are in preparation for a feature event and nominated for a meeting and the race does not stand up. This will include all distances and also take precedence over the policy.
  •  If a greyhound qualifies for a feature final and requires a trial in between this will be conducted as a solo trial and sit separately to the 2 four dog trials.

Whilst these changes increase the time between kennelling and the first race by 15 minutes it should provide an opportunity for more trialling opportunities for one and two dog trainers in particular.

It is extremely important that trainers book in to trial at these race meetings. No trials will be accepted outside of these booking times.
