Angle Park Preview

Racing News

It’s been a very tough week on the punt, but with a classy 11 event programme tonight there should be some good value for punters in several events. The highlight for mine is race 5 over the 600m with a good even spread and race 8, as there are at least 4 main chances.  That does appear a good first 4 race.

Race 1 and Margaret Keeping returned to form with a good win here last start from box 5 in a sub 30 run and will be very hard to hold off again on that effort.  The other main chances look to be the pacey Aston Kane and Freesia Bale who will be carving across.  Box Up 1.3.5.7.

Race 2 and I like one in this who will be rattling home, Long Gully Mark, but we will need luck early, the draw is a worry but he is very smart when on song.  Add in Irish Keepsake who is always around the mark along with Zenga Bale who was a last start winner here for the trifecta.  Box Up 2.3.5.8

The third and Ben Rawlings looks to have a handy one here in Placid Planet.  He has won at both his S.A runs in quick times around the Gawler circuit and should be the one to catch in this.  Cash In Looper is always a threat as is Coolabah Jet.  Box Up 1.2.5.7

The 4th and I have gone with the pacey Avid Tyson, she has good short course form and might be able to pinch this with an ounce of luck.  The main dangers look to be Dyna Erwin who will be rattling home late and Merlot Monelli out wide. Keep a close watch on the reserve Astronomic who gets a run from box 4 as he is a must for the Trifecta.  Box Up 1.2.8.10.

This is the 600m event of the night and the Trowbridge kennel looks to have a strangle hold on this event with both their runners, but as we all know there is always a chance of an upset. Supersonic Hawk has been racing well and from box 1 should be right in the mix early, and he will be right in the finish.  Footluce Diva has a heap of early pace and has returned to her terrific best.  Mi Diablo has been placed here twice and the border hopper will be powering home late.  Box Up 1.3.5.7.

Race 6 and this is an open affair as they are all fairly even.  Viral Bale has his paw on the till with a string of places so he is a definite for us.  Rum Punch is from the inform kennel of Ben Rawlings and is another who is capable of surprising.  Box Up 1.3.4.6

Race 7 and Kalden Gambino looks well drawn down in box 1, he was very unlucky here last start when checked early so he can bounce back in this.  Victa Brooke has pace and should run another nice race, and is well boxed in the 3.  Van Carrho Flash is next best and worth a place ticket.  Box Up 1.3.4.8

The 8th and they don’t get any more even than this so there could be a bit of value for punters.  I will go with last start winner in Barnes Bay, he carved out a slick BON run in 29.65 and could be at each way odds.  We can’t leave out Getty Bale and the pacey Blurred Lines.  Add in Gun McBain for the first 4.  Box Up 1.2.3.7

Race 9 and she looks the best bet of the night and that is Banjo Blaze from box 2 for Kath Johnstone.  She has a good turn of early pace and can skip away and win.  Farron Bale can improve, but is hit and miss on box rise so we can put her in the top 4.  Box Up 1.2.4.8

The 10th and the Paul Hearnden camp can salute with She’s So Vain, another who has been on the improve and will be running on strongly at the right time.  The main danger looks to be the 3 and 5.  Box up 2.3.5.7

The final event and let’s hope we are well in front.  Another box 2 runner in Miss Everdeen, she is ultra-consistent and the rails draw will be a big help.  Lektra Diva has good claims as does Irish Midge.  Box Up 1.2.3.5

HIGHLIGHTS AT ANGLE PARK

There has been no shortage of highlights recently at Angle Park most notable the performance of Kalden Legenda and his trainer Ben Rawlings last Thursday night (7th May). Kalden Legenda secured his 10th win in a row when he defeated a handy line up of Grade 5 veterans when he lead throughout to win by over 2 lengths in a solid 30.22.

Kalden Legenda’s string of victories started on the 4th March in a mixed 4/5 event at Angle Park on a Wednesday before Rawlings brought him to headquarters to compete on a Thursday night. He has competed in grade 5 special events for older greyhounds with Kalden Legenda generally the oldest greyhound in the field. He had raced the last 9 Thursday nights winning on each occasion making him not only consistent in his performance but also extremely durable with an extraordinary desire to win. He was whelped on 8th December 2010 making him 4½ years of age and had to battle a serious injury keeping him away from the racetrack for around a year. Both Ben and Kalden Legenda deserve much praise for their performances but tonight Kalden Legenda is having a night off and not racing.

When he returns to the track the record of 15 wins at the Angle Park track set in 1981 by superstar Kate’s A Scandal could well be in danger but no doubt it will be one win at a time from here.

Kalden Legenda presentation after winning his 9th race in a row on May 7

Also last Thursday night at headquarters greyhound fans were treated to one of the quickest and best stayers seen at Angle Park when Luna Jinx showed she was right back to her brilliant best with a 12 length win over the 731m, equalling her personal best 42.77 in the process. Only a handful of stayers have ever broken 43 seconds at Angle Park and she has now done it twice. The only other greyhound to do this multiple times recently was star performer Token McLaren who did it on three occasions.  The Gavin Harris trained star has been drawn into tonight’s Group 1 Sandown Cup heats with her given the visitors box of 7. With 4 heats she will have to run in the first two so all SA fans will be cheering for her. She is in race 3 at Sandown due to jump at 7.15pm (SA time).

Finally those people who ventured out to last Tuesdays twilight meeting at Angle Park were in for a welcome surprise when Real Flash started from box 8 in a Grade 6 event over the 515m. The Troy Murray trained sprinter had shown ability in her previous 7 starts winning 2 of them and was quite justifiably the long odds on favourite. So to see her spear to the front and win as she liked was really no surprise but the winning margin of over 12 lengths and sectionals of 4.47, 16.84 and an overall of 29.49 was out of the box. That sort of performance would put her right into Group 1 Adelaide Cup contention however with her being so young she can only derive benefit from more race experience. Good luck to connections as Real Flash certainly lived up to her name on Tuesday.
