Angle Park Preview

Racing News

Well there goes another week in racing, but how good is tonight’s program.  The highlight’s of the 11 event card are races 6, 7 and 8, but as you all know I love the 700m events and we see some of the best stayers gracing the Angle Park loam tonight, and any one of them can win.

Race 1 and we kick off with an interesting event.  There is a heap of early pace here and a couple that will be powering home late so that makes me lean towards He’s A Villian from box 1.  He will be flying home late and will be right in the finish.  Add in the pacey Aston Kane and Getty Bale.  Box Up 1.3.4.7.

Race 2, if you are looking for a special it is Wheel Spinner from box 1.  He will be very skinny odds so we will take him one out in the trifecta 1 from 2.3.7.

The 3rd and Banjo Blaze has pace and should be able to carve across from box 6 and win.  She is in terrific form and looks amongst the main chances.  I like a couple for the minors in Physical Road and Farron Bale.  Box Up 1.4.5.6

The 4th and the two main chances are the book ends.  Both will be up there very early and will take beating.  The trifecta looks tough as all of the others have place claims so we can go 1 and 8 from 2.4.3 for value.

Race 5 and there are several runners who are in fantastic form and this is nearly a dart shot who can win as there are at least 4 chances for mine.  I will go with the Troy Murray Astronomic but not with a huge amount of confidence.  Add in Young Gun McBain and the flying Allen Warlock.  Box Up 1.2.3.4

Here is the Distance affair race 6, and what a terrific race it is.  There are only 4 runners with the scratching of Grifter Bale but all have a claim on their night. I will tip the Petar Jovanovic trained Psychotic Gold.  She has been freshened and should improve and sit on the pace.  Luna Jinx ventured to Melbourne last start and failed to beat a runner home but we all know she is a class act when on song.  Ash Flash is looking for the 731m now after a few 600m races.  Because there are only 4 runners we will go in order for $1 in the Trifecta 4. 2.1.

The 7th and it doesn’t get any harder than this, how good is this race with pace from far and wide.  If you look at the 8 runners there isn’t one of them that have missed a place in their last 4 runs. Now to the winner I am leaning towards Coorong Kid and as you ask me why I don’t really know!!!!  He is a class act like all the others but can get the sit and win.  Blurred Lines is very smart and so is Alderley Reform.  Box Up 1.2.3.7

Race 8 and this is a very good betting affair as it’s a very wide and there doesn’t look to be a certainty.  We will go with Dr Kiaralee and Punishment.  Both have a good turn of early speed and will be in the mix.  Add in Taser McBain and Check Yo Self.  Box Up 2.4.6.7 (good luck)

Race 9 and Kalden Legenda has won a lazy 9 in a row.  He just loves racing and it is a credit to his trainer Ben Rawlings. So he is my top pick.  Box Up 2.4.7.8 and keep an eye on Supersonic Hawk who should be flying home.

The 10th and the Jovanovic kennel has a handy one in Rellim Allan.  He has won his past two here, both in good times and he will take a power of beating again.  Zipping Fee Fee has the draw and can kick up and run a cheeky race, and he has been in the placings at his last five starts.  Box Up 1.3.6.8

The final event and this is a tough one to go home on with the rails runners all having chances.  Bakmar Miss out in box 8, will be right in the finish.  Box Up 1.2.4.8 in a very interesting race to send us home on.

These will be followed by the Semi-Finals on May 21st and the $37,500 Final on May 28th.  Total prizemoney for heats and semis will be determined by the number of races run.

The race is for greyhounds that are eligible for Breeders 2015. Greyhounds don’t have to have competed in the Preludes to run in the Group 3 Howard Ashton.
* Nominations close tomorrow (Friday 8th May) with GRSA at 9.00am.

GAWLER QUEENS CUP HEAT ON SUNDAY

The feature on this Sundays Gawler program will be the Glen Gallon @ Stud Gawler Queens Cup heat. There is only one heat worth $1,810 with 6 runners engaged however to support these greyhounds it was decided to run this as a heat into the $3,500 final on Tuesday 19th May. The race is run as race 5 on Sunday due to start at 6.27pm and features a quality line up including Yiche, Taser McBain and Sunday Shoes. The winning connections of the final also receive a free service to outstanding sprinter Glen Gallon.

WINNING FORMULA ON BOARD WITH SPONSORSHIP

Recently Peter Bryce from Winning Formula has been oncourse at Angle Park and Gawler on a monthly basis being available to participants with his Winning Formula products. He has agreed to sponsor specific races with naming rights to the Maiden Heats and Finals and Juvenile Heats and Finals at Angle Park and Gawler. The monthly winner of the Angle Park Maiden Final will receive one of Peter’s products this Monday night.

At the Angle Park meeting on Monday 18th May Peter will be oncourse and supply the winners and placegetters of each of the races with some of his Winning Formula products.

We thank Peter and Winning Formula for his support of SA greyhound racing.

ANGLE PARK KENNEL HOUSE SATURDAY MORNING

There is current work taking place on the Angle Park kennel house which will affect some access for Saturday morning trials this weekend (9th May). On Saturday morning there will be NO access to the kennels themselves however you will be able to access the front of the kennel house where the wash bays and scales are. GRSA apologises for this minor inconvenience on Saturday morning to allow work to be completed.

This Tuesdays Angle Park meeting will be conducted as a Twilight meeting with times from 3.09pm to 6.21pm for an 11 event program. To remain consistent this meeting will be Angle Park Provincial 2 for grading, will have Tuesday prizemoney and will be conducted with the Finish On Lure.

“The Angle Park trials will be run as normal on Tuesday night starting around 7.00pm”

ADELAIDE CUP DATE CONFIRMED – FRIDAY 9TH OCTOBER

AUCTION DATE CONFIRMED – SUNDAY 25TH OCTOBER

The AGRC and GRSA have confirmed that the Auction date for 2015 is Sunday 25th October at Angle Park. Please see conditions of the Auction later in local news.

TRAINERS FEE INCREASE FROM $30 TO $50

As of Wednesday 1st April the Trainers Fee was increased from $30 and $5 per greyhound to $50 and $5 per greyhound.

TRIALS AT EMERLEY PARK HAVE STARTED

Greyhound Racing SA has taken over the trials at Emerley Park on Fridays. GRSA will maintain and conduct the trials. Details are below –

 ·         All Trials $6.00

·         All greyhounds are to be muzzled

·         Trials commence at 8.00am and conclude at 9.30am (unless numbers warrant and extension)

·         No timing is available

·         Straight track only

RACE NIGHT OFFICE TO CLOSE AT 6.30PM ON MONDAYS

The Race Night office at Angle Park will close at 6.30pm on Monday nights. Please ensure that Trainers have collected their Trainers Fee straight after kenneling and that any paperwork is lodged in the office before this time.

UPDATED DOMESTIC & AGRICULTURAL ANIMALS FORM AVAILABLE

GRSA advises that the form for notifying domestic & agricultural animals on your premise is updated and available on the GRSA website and from Angle Park. Please contact Animal Welfare Officer Belinda Pearce for further information. This form will need to be updated by June 30 when all license renewals are due.

PAYMENT OF PRIZEMONEY/TRAINERS FEE

As GRSA continues to refine and increase our usage of the OzChase system we have moved away from our current manual methods of processing prizemoney/trainers’ fee and have started utilising reports automatically generated from OzChase.

With this increased functionality, GRSA has the ability to split prizemoney payments between owners and trainers, as opposed to the current situation where 100% of prizemoney is paid to one bank account.  Should trainers or owners wish to take advantage of this it will be necessary for additional forms to be lodged with GRSA.

As a result of the fact that the payments will be automated, each OzChase ID will only be able to have one bank account associated with it.  Whilst previously GRSA has been able to manually adjust this and provide separate remittance advices, unfortunately this option will no longer be available.

These changes have been implemented. Any queries regarding this change please contact Sarah Webster or the racing department on 08 8243 7100.

**Please ensure that all transfers of ownership have been lodged as each race meeting will be finalised on a daily basis. If the transfer has not been lodged before the greyhound competes then the prizemoney will be paid to the current ownership or withheld if there is no account.

If an Owner directs their money to the account of a trainer and then owns another greyhound with a different trainer, GRSA will make the assumption that all money is to also be paid to the trainer unless otherwise advised**

POLICY RELEASED FOR TRIALLING AT ANGLE PARK AND GAWLER BEFORE THE RACE MEETING

The Industry Consultative Group recently met and discussed the trialling policies at race meetings and in particular how the Monday nights Angle Park structured policy has been accepted. The ICG panel decided to accept the Monday night policy for all Angle Park (except Thursday night) and Gawler meetings allowing for trialling to be conducted between kennels closing and the start of the first race. Kenneling times for these meetings will be extended by 15 minutes to allow for these trials to occur the same as Monday night.

The policy will now be introduced for Angle Park Monday & Wednesday along with Gawler Tuesday, Friday and Sunday to start from the Angle Park Monday meeting 4th May 2015. This will now be the sole policy for trialling at race meetings.

RACE MEETING TRIAL POLICY

Angle Park Monday & Wednesday along with Gawler Tuesday, Friday, Sunday (commencing Monday’s meeting - 4 May 2015)
Two fields from the boxes with  a maximum of four (4) greyhounds will be conducted immediately following the completion of the kennelling procedure for the Race Meeting.
The following lists the order in which greyhounds will be selected in the event if more than 8 greyhounds nominated.
1)         Reserves at the Meeting that do not obtain starts.
2)         Trainers that have greyhounds engaged and are located in an area affected by track closures.
3)         Trainers that have greyhounds engaged.
4)         Satisfactory trials.
5)         Other greyhounds.

PROCEDURE/CRITERIA
1)         For Monday nights trainer to contact GRSA between 10.00am and 11.00am on the Monday to nominate. Should the Monday be a public holiday bookings are to be made between 8am and 9am on the scratching line on the Monday.

2)         For Angle Park Wednesday, Gawler Tuesday & Friday trainer to contact GRSA between 9.00am and 10.00am on the day to nominate.

3)         For Gawler Sunday trainer to contact GRSA between 8.00am and 9.00am on the scratching line on the day to nominate.

4)         Other than reserve greyhounds Trainers will be restricted to trialling one (1) greyhound unless nominations determine otherwise.
5)         Stewards allot the Box for the Greyhound.
6)         Trials will be 515m & 531m in distance as first preference. Other distances considered depending on nominations.
7)         Greyhounds currently under suspension or not cleared to race are not eligible to be nominated.(these trials are conducted as if they are at a race meeting so all greyhounds need to be eligible at nomination time)
8)         Greyhound registration certificate or cards must be produced at kennelling time.
9)         Trainers with other greyhounds engaged can utilize the extra kennel space until such time they are ready to leave OR trainers with no other greyhounds will be free to leave following their trial.

Please Note
Kennelling times will be 15 minutes earlier for these meetings from 4th May to allow for these trials.

·         If there are 12 races at Angle Park or Gawler there will be NO trials.

·         The Vet Clinic at these meetings cannot be used to accommodate any greyhounds to allow for extra trialling greyhounds. This policy has been introduced so that participants book in under the policy. The Vet Clinic needs to be available for the Vet and Stewards at race meetings.

Exceptions to this Policy–

·         Thursday nights are kept available for the option for Interstate greyhounds to solo trial in a lead up to our Group races and also local greyhound’s trialling for Group racing interstate.

·         Local greyhounds will be allowed to solo trial in a lead up to a feature race upon request and they will take one of the eight kennels available for trialling ahead of the policy and sit separately to the 4 dog trials. Feature races are considered to be – Adelaide Cup, Gawler Cup, Oaks, Derby, Howard Ashton, Brian Johnstone, SA Sprint, SA Distance Championship, SA Anniversary Cup, SA Country Cup, National Finals & any Group race Interstate.

 ·         Local greyhounds will be allowed to trial on a race night, where they are in preparation for a feature event and nominated for a meeting and the race does not stand up. This will include all distances and also take precedence over the policy.

 ·         If a greyhound qualifies for a feature final and requires a trial in between this will be conducted as a solo trial and sit separately to the 2 four dog trials.

Whilst these changes increase the time between kennelling and the first race by 15 minutes it should provide an opportunity for more trialling opportunities for one and two dog trainers in particular.

It is extremely important that trainers book in to trial at these race meetings. No trials will be accepted outside of these booking times.
