TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

Let’s back a winner or two tonight and if you followed me last week in this article you would have a stash under the old mattress, yes I picked a lazy 5 trifectas and my roughie of the night at 8/1 crossed the line and topped off a fantastic night.  Don’t forget race 8 on the programme, the SA St Ledger Final, how good is this event with the Cameron Butcher kennel having three runners Wendy Matcott four and the inform kennel of Vadim Roz who won last Sundays Gawler Cup Final.

Race 1 and I like the Lauren Harris trained Elay Galaxy, he has a good turn of pace and should be able to kick up and pinch this.  Excusez Moi will be right in the finish along with Taser McBain.  Box Up 1.2.7.8

Race 2 and it’s very hard to go past the inform Wheel Spinner.  He keeps on winning in quick times but the wide draw is the main worry for mine.  Add in the pacey Oz Dazzler and Getty Bale.  Box Up 3.5.7.8

The 3rd and Kath Johnstone has a handy one in Kingda Kahn.  He is well drawn in this and looks the measuring stick.  We can’t overlook Bianca Bale and Oran Bale who will be flying home late.  Box up 1.2.5.7

The 4th and if we are looking for strength we can’t go past He’s A Villian who should sit on the early pace and prove far too strong in the run home.  Big Zap has been struggling BIG time of late but is very smart when on song so he is a huge chance if in form.  Box Up 1.3.4.5

Race 5 and rarely does a night go past when the Murray kennel goes home without a winner and Kalden Kapone should be too good in this event despite the ordinary draw of box 6, he has the pace to lead and win.  We can’t leave out Blue Viper who has changed her racing style along with Good Odds Punk who will be rattling home late.  Box Up 1.2.5.6.

The 6th and Emerley Lover was never in the hunt in the Gawler Cup final last start but should find this more too his liking from the inside draw.  Hailstorm Billy has a very big motor and will start the punters elect but can be hit and miss on box rise.  Add in Chemical Maker and Kalden Legenda.  Box Up 2.6.7.8

Race 7 and this is a very tough race with a heap of early pace to the 1st turn.  Woodnear has the form on the board with 4 wins from his last 5 starts and is very hard to go past.  Black Bottle and Kalden Balerion all have pace.  Box Up 1.3.4.5 in a very good betting affair.

Race 8 The Big race of the night, the St Ledger Final and we have a lot of speedster’s in this and it will be a charge of the light brigade to the 1st turn that’s why I am tipping Fraya Bale from box 8.  He can hopefully stay out of trouble in the run to the 1st turn and continue in winning form.  The dangers look to be the other 7 runners as it is a fabulous race.  Box Up 1.3.6.8.

Race 9 and this one looks a handy each way bet and that is Physical Road.  She can be hit and miss on box rise but the draw brings her right into this event.  Add in Dante’s Spirit and  Cosmic Shez.  Box Up 3.4.6.7

The 9th and we need to be well in front by now as they don’t get any harder than this.  I like at least three runners here.  They are the pacey Bakmar, Miss, Red Can and Peejay Jack.  They are all are quick beginner’s.  There is one that will be flying home and that is Everlasting Gaze.  Box Up 3.4.5.6 in a good betting race.

The final event and if you are a bad darts player have a go at the board, there are several runners that all have a chance but there isn’t one that stands out.  It is between the 2 and 3 for mine but we can’t overlook the 5 and the 1.  Box them up 1.2.3.5 but this is a very hard affair to send us home on.

TODD GRAY PREVIEWS OUR FEATURE RACES TONIGHT AT ANGLE PARK INCLUDING THE SA ST LEGER FINAL

Race 7 - Free For All
Woodnear is the lone grade 1 dog in the race and proved us wrong last week by not only winning return on his return to 500 metre racing but coming from behind to do so, however once again a full field and more pace could hinder him early with Blue Bottle and Gawler Cup finalist Kalden Balerion draw outside. Stew’s Mistake has drawn where he wants and will go straight onto the rail as Allen Nemo is slow out. Kalden Gambino and Farmeroo are no strangers to the winners circle however last start winner Nebula may struggle in this class.
Race 8 – SA St Leger Final
The 2015 St Leger Final brings together a top field and the box draw has made things very interesting. Trainer Cameron Butcher has been best blessed drawing boxes 1, 2 & 5 with his runners Spicy Peppa, Coorong Kid and Dodger I Am. Spicy Peppa I would say is his best chance and likely leader which will give kennel mate and very smart field dog Coorong Kid the rails run. Young Gun McBain won both his heat and semi-final in fine style and this litter keeps on getting better and better. Dyna Motley will be storming home at the end but wants to get to the rails however from box 7 may struggle. Fraya Bale went straight to the lead in its semi-final but will find it hard to get across from the pink box. Parsec bale will be flashing home late and Dyna Drama gives Wendy Matcott her 4th runner in the final. Good luck to all.

WEST END DRAUGHT DISTANCE AND ANNIVERSARY CUP HEATS
Feature racing returns to Angle Park next month with the running of the West End Draught Distance Championship over 731m and the West End Draught Anniversary Cup over 515m on Thursday 12th March. Both finals are open events worth $14,500 for the Distance with unplaced and $13,750 for the Sprint with the winner collecting $10,000.
The honour role for both events are a who’s who of Greyhound racing with last years winners Token McLaren winning the Distance Championship and Set The Scene taking out the Anniversary Cup.
Heats will be run on Thursday 6th March.
* Nominations close on Monday 2nd March with GRSA at 9.00am.

****With the West End Draught Distance Championship only two weeks away GRSA decided to support the stayers and run a 4 dog race on Monday night at Angle Park. This is not common practice and is likely to be a “one off” circumstance however if we did not support these greyhounds it would affect their preparation for the series.****

VIRGINIA TRACK
