Angle Park Preview
TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow
Well I certainly need to improve after last week’s disaster when they were winning from left right and centre and the favourites had an ordinary night. Tonight we have a 10 event programme with 8 sprint races and a handy 600m, along with the crowds favourite, a 731m.
Race 1 and I’m very confident we can kick off with a winner. Freesia Bale, she has been knocking on the door in recent runs and will be the one running on late. The main danger is the well drawn Antonio Tyson who looks the likely leader. Add in the newcomer in Coulta Mayham and Aeroplane Bowser who will be rattling home. Box Up 1.2.4.8
Race 2 and I like the inside 4, in no particular order. All have been around the mark and have a chance. The outside brigade will need a lot of luck here. Box Up 1.2.3.4
Race 3 and Dakota Premier is the class runner of the field. He has a PB here of 29.57 and in recent runs has been very unlucky. He’s my top pick. Add in Nevada Smith and Zac Bale. Box Up 1.3.7.8
The 4th and this is the Distance affair of the night with 5 starters. The main two are Luna Jinx and Zara McLaren. The latter will be the likely leader and has very strong claims. So let’s go 1 out for a $1 investment. Pick 4.1.2
Race 5 and number 5, Kalden Kapone. He has a good turn of early pace and should be able to overcome the poor draw. I like Danyo’s Luke down in box 3. He can run another bold race. Add in Set The Scene and the well drawn Victa Scott. Box Up 3.4.5.7 in a good betting race.
The 600m affair of the night is another 5 runner affair. This appears pretty open. I have gone with Beach Wary as he flew home last week to run 3rd behind Grifter Bale. Tonight looks his night. Volta Allen nearly looked the BOLTA at enormous odds here in the same event when 2nd beaten a long neck at 200/1. Is sure to start at single figure odds in this. Box Up 1.2.4.6
Race 7 and there is a bit of pace in this so it will be interesting to the 1st turn. Galilee Spirit is well drawn out in the 7 and should be right in the finish. Honky Tonk Doll has terrific short course form and is well suited down in box 1. Kalden Balerion has won 3 of his past 5 here all in quick times and is a must for trifecta punters. Box Up 1.2.4.7
The 8th and this is a terrific betting race as there are at least 5 chances out of the 8 starters. I have tipped Black Daddy in recent weeks to win and he has been very close. Elay Galaxy has the form on the board with two good wins here from inside draws. Excusez Moi is another who appears a big chance. Box Up 1.3.6.7
The 9th and Bakmar Miss has a good turn of early pace and box 7 will only enhance her chances in another open affair. Springvale Clint and Ortiz Bale who is well drawn. Will be running on late. Add in for value Scottish Thistle for the first 4. Box Up 1.4.7.8
Race 10 is the final event and we can end the night the same way we started it (hopefully)!!!! and that’s with a winner in Necro Bale from box 2, if he can be close early he will be hard to beat. I like Kingda Kahn and Master Bekim out in the 7 as he will be flying home but is a very risky beginner. Box Up 1.2.6.7

GRADING REVIEW PANEL
Main items from the Grading Review Panel in November which take effect from meetings from 1st January 2015.
Main items from the Grading Review Panel in November which take effect from meetings from 1st January 2015.
Grade 6
The panel was generally comfortable with the Grade 6 format however recommended a slight change to the Angle Park Grade 6’s for Non SA Bred greyhounds. Currently greyhounds can only win two of the three Angle Parks before racing elsewhere. It was proposed that Angle Park Wednesday (Provincial 2) be considered with Gawler and Strathalbyn allowing for a win on a Wednesday over 388m for example to not carry the same impact as a Grade 6 win on Thursday night. This change would also assist those trainers regarding FOL and Catching Pen and provide more options for trainers. There will be no retrospectively in regard to grades.
Veteran’s Races
The GRP considered whether veterans races would benefit from the same approach applied to Juvenile racing where the Grader will consider a race of Veterans age as his first option when grading regardless of nomination (Feature Events excluded). The GRP were specific that this was only for Grade 5 greyhounds and would be treated as Non Penalty events with guarding as required. If trainers did not want to be considered for these races they could put “No Veterans” on their nomination.
With the chance to be running more Veteran's races with the Grade 5 option it would be preferred that any Grade 5 greyhound eligible for veterans advises FFA on their nomination.
Downgrade to Grade 5
The GRP considered when a greyhound has its second unplaced run and goes back to grade 5 company from a grade 4 they should be on the Order to gain an automatic start. Currently these greyhounds are not on the Order. The Grader advised that this would be worthwhile as these greyhounds have raced generally in FFA company and at times their form has tapered off at that level putting them at risk in gaining a run. The GRP recommended that this be added to number 6 on the Order of Preference which will include Grade 5 greyhounds.
