TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

Well there goes another month of racing.  Tonight’s programme looks an interesting one on paper with several even races amongst the 11 events.

Race 1 and we kick off with a good betting race.  The two main chances look to be My Party and Lochinvar Akira. Both have pace and will be right in the finish.  Box up 1.3.7.8

The 2nd and King Chaos has the perfect draw down on the rails in box 1.  He has the pace to lead and hold on.  Long Gully Mark will be carving across from box 6 along with Red Can.  Box Up 1.3.4.6

The 3rd and this is the Distance race of the night and it has been interesting that we have had two separate winners in recent weeks so there are no certainties in this.  The main three are Luna Jinx, Psychotic Gold and Zara McLaren.  Box those 3 and that’s the trifecta. 1.4.5

Race 4 and Wendy Matcott has a handy one in Destiny Bale.  She has been in great form of late and is well boxed down in box two.  The Murray kennel has a new one in Fast Noodle and is sure to well tried on debut.  Box Up 2.5.7.8

Race 5 and I tipped Black Daddy last start and he was very unlucky.  He looks the improver.  Add in Rum Punch and See Him First.  Box Up 1.2.5.8

Race 6 and the main chances in this all can be hit and miss on box rise.  Cash In Looper is very smart when on song and is a must for trifecta punters.  Good Odds Punk only needs an ounce of luck early to have a big say in the finish.  Box Up 3.4.6.7

The 7th and he SHOULD be the best bet of the night from this draw and that is Set The Scene.  He should find this more to his liking but needs to stay out of trouble in the run to the 1st turn.  Add in Elay Galaxy and Excusez Moi.  Box Up 3.4.7.8

The 8th and this is a very good betting race as there are several chances in a quality field.  The four I will box up all have winning chances and they are 1.2.5.8.  Dakota Premier gets the nod in a fantastic race.

Race 9 and this is the 600m event of the night.  There looks to be 3 main chances.  The favourite should be Grifter Bale out in box 8 and he will be winding up over the last 100m.  Beach Wary has pace and has been in fine form over the sprint.  Add in He’s A Villian in box 1 for the trifecta.  Box Up 1.5.6.8

The 10th and this is a toughie to pick as they all have a chance.  Go with your favourite numbers so I have picked 1.2.3.5

The final event and we should be well in front.  Have a lash at Nikita Kahn in the Kim Johnstone kennel.  She will be very hard to beat on her last start win here and is drawn for a bold showing again.  Bianca Bale is another who is well drawn out in 8 and will figure in the mix.  Box Up 1.3.4.8

At the last Grading Review Panel meeting it was agreed to request increased money for SA Bred and SA Owned races when they are programmed. These races are run on Category 1, 2 and 3 meetings and are usually Grade 6 and Grade 5 events. The Board has approved the changes below to be introduced 1st February 2015 to ensure the Ozchase computer system can accommodate the prizemoney changes
·         SA Bred or SA Owned  Category 1 races will have an extra $200 added
·         SA Bred or SA Owned  Category 2 races will have an extra $100 added
·         SA Bred or SA Owned  Category 3 races will have an extra $50 added

GRADING REVIEW PANEL
Main items from the Grading Review Panel in November which take effect from meetings from 1st January 2015.
Grade 6
The panel was generally comfortable with the Grade 6 format however recommended a slight change to the Angle Park Grade 6’s for Non SA Bred greyhounds. Currently greyhounds can only win two of the three Angle Parks before racing elsewhere. It was proposed that Angle Park Wednesday (Provincial 2) be considered with Gawler and Strathalbyn allowing for a win on a Wednesday over 388m for example to not carry the same impact as a Grade 6 win on Thursday night. This change would also assist those trainers regarding FOL and Catching Pen and provide more options for trainers. There will be no retrospectively in regard to grades.
Veteran’s Races
The GRP considered whether veterans races would benefit from the same approach applied to Juvenile racing where the Grader will consider a race of Veterans age as his first option when grading regardless of nomination (Feature Events excluded). The GRP were specific that this was only for Grade 5 greyhounds and would be treated as Non Penalty events with guarding as required. If trainers did not want to be considered for these races they could put “No Veterans” on their nomination.
With the chance to be running more Veteran's races with the Grade 5 option it would be preferred that any Grade 5 greyhound eligible for veterans advises FFA on their nomination.

Downgrade to Grade 5
The GRP considered when a greyhound has its second unplaced run and goes back to grade 5 company from a grade 4 they should be on the Order to gain an automatic start. Currently these greyhounds are not on the Order. The Grader advised that this would be worthwhile as these greyhounds have raced generally in FFA company and at times their form has tapered off at that level putting them at risk in gaining a run. The GRP recommended that this be added to number 6 on the Order of Preference which will include Grade 5 greyhounds.

MOUNT GAMBIER NEWS
