TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

We have another strong night of racing with the highlight being Race 6 the 2020 Leigh Rogers final which carries $6,000 to the winner. As usual all races are Trifecta and First Four.

Race 1 - Cawbourne Blaze can be hit and miss on lid rise, he will be doing his best work late and should give this a big shake. Lewicki is a newcomer who has handy form in N.S.W, she has only had the 10 starts for a win and 6 placings and must be kept safe on her SA debut. Box Up 2.5.7.8

Race 2 - This is the Maiden of the night and Spring Driven is making her debut, the well bred youngster has the gun draw and is sure to be right in the mix. Allegra continues to fill a place, she has had 41 starts and is still a Maiden, she will be flying home and is getting close to a win. Box Up 1.4.5.7

Race 3 - This certainly is a wide open affair and I lean towards Marlee Jaye who has handy Gawler form, she has a bit of early pace and is a chance of pinching this if able to lead. Shamrock Lava is the improver, he is very capable on his night and if he is within striking distance into the back will be hard to beat. Add Concede and Invincibility for the First Four. Box Up 2.4.5.7

Race 4 - Hot Zorro gets his chance tonight, he has been in the money at his last four starts and is drawn for a bold showing. McLaren Illusion is our value runner, he is better than his form suggests and is a must for our Trifecta. Minnie Mac has handy short course form and can pinch a place. Box Up 1.2.5.7

Race 5 - This is the distance affair of the night and we will stick with Miss Takiri out in box 7, she needs to ping the lids tonight and run them of their legs early and open up a big break to win. Wooden Tiger will be humming into the back, he has been placed here at his last three and will be right in the finish. Boom Down continues to mix form and can’t be overlooked as he is more than capable on his night. Box Up 1.2.7.8

Race 6 - Fly For Trix has been in very good form winning his last three here all in good fashion, he is very strong and should go very close again on his recent efforts. Zipping Marshall cruised to an easy win here last week in 29.78, he is the big danger. Add From The Gallery at big odds for our Trifecta. Box Up 1.3.5.8

Race 7 – With Shadow Mist scratched it looks like Rushes and Fantastic Shell can fight this one out with my leaning to Rushes. Maddie Me to run third. 4.6.8.1

Race 8 - The Rasmussen kennel should have a handy night and they look hard to beat with the well drawn Buddy Guy down in box 1, he has been in terrific form and is the measuring stick. Thunder On has been hit and miss of late on box rise, he has handy short course form and can fill a place. Ask Me Now is a strong type and is a definite threat. Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 9 - Jacks Knight has been in fine form at Murray Bridge winning his last three, he has a good turn of early pace and looks one of the better bets of the night. Lily Pad and Footrot Fernando both have their fair share of ability and have been racing well they are drawn to make their presence felt. Box Up 2.5.7.10

Race 10 - This is a tricky event, Woodside Zulu has a ton of ability but his box manners are very ordinary, he will be flying late but cant be backed with confidence. Fantastic Pippa can jump and lead, she can run time on the lure and will go very close. Corryong McLaren is our smokey as he is capable with a clear run. Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 11  - The outside brigade look the main chances here in the final event, Classic McLaren has been runner up here at his past two and can handle a wide draw. Zipping Ted will be running on if he can stay out of trouble early he can give this a big shake. Box Up 1.2.7.8

Best Bets

Race 8, No: 1 - Buddy Guy
Race 10, No: 2 - Fantastic Pippa

Best Each-Way

Race 3, No: 4 - Marlee Jaye

GROUP 3 BRIAN JOHNSTONE HEATS – NOMINATIONS CLOSE TOMORROW

Following the 2020 Gawler Classic and both the Classic 2020 Preludes attention will swing to the rich Brian Johnstone Series. The Group 3 series is the main event of the Classic 2020 Futurity.

The Heats for the Brian Johnstone will be run on Wednesday, 11th November at Angle Park, followed by the Semi- Finals on Thursday, 19th November and the $37,500 Final on Thursday, 26th November.

UPDATED CROSS BORDER DIRECTION – MOUNT GAMBIER

The updated Cross-Border Direction (No. 17) has been released and is now in effect.  This Direction opens free movement to Victorian residents within 70km of the border (that is, no reason needed), but you still need to have your 7-day COVID tests.  You also still need to possess a permit (either the current one or apply for one if you have not done so).

HOWEVER, the new Direction has been re-written to clarify the position of where you can travel into Victoria.   South Australia has effectively quarantined the area 70km both sides of Victoria to cross-border members (you).  If you now travel more than 70km into Victoria, you can no longer cross into South Australia under the cross-border community member status.  You can still cross but would need to apply under a different entry status.  However, the other options are not suited to a race meeting visit.

What this means is, if you travel into Victoria more than 70km, you cannot rely on your cross-border community member status to then enter SA.  The Direction is unclear on what time frame a Victorian cross border member who travels more than 70km into Victoria is not permitted into SA. Please check with police on this, but it is likely you would need a 12-day COVID negative test cycle (effectively, two 7-day negative tests), before you could cross into SA.  If you went back into Victoria more than 70km, for any reason, you would need to repeat that process before you entered SA.

GRSA TO MOVE BACK TO 8 DOG QUAD FOR ANGLE PARK SATURDAY, MONDAY & WEDNESDAY & GAWLER TUESDAY

GRSA will move back to an 8 DOG QUAD for Angle Park Saturday, Angle Park Monday, Angle Park Wednesday and Gawler Tuesday meetings effective immediately.

These meetings carry high volume of nominations and should not adversely affect the sustainability of the weekly schedule. GRSA will continue to monitor nomination flow through our weekly schedule with the intent for all meetings to be on a G-SIX and 8 DOG QUAD format in the near future.

Mt Gambier has a different format to this schedule due to the club only able to race once a week at present.

GOOD LUCK TO GOLDEN NIGHT & SIR TRUCULENT IN THE TOPGUN ON SATURDAY NIGHT

Good luck to SA trained stars Golden Night for Troy Murray in the Topgun Sprint and Sir Truculent for Wally Harkins in the Topgun Stayers on Saturday night at the Meadows.

The Topgun Stayers is race 6 at 7.40pm SA time worth $75,000 to the winner and the Topgun Sprint is race 8 at 8.15pm worth $150,000 to the winner.

BOXING FOR FEATURE FINALS

GRSA advised last month that the boxing procedure for feature Heats and Finals will revert back to 2 rows where applicable.

GRSA will continue to monitor these processes.

SATURDAY MORNING FORTNIGHTLY MEETINGS

We now run a fortnightly Saturday morning meeting at Angle Park and to accommodate this meeting through our weekly schedule we made some changes to the number of races run during and after this meeting at other venues.

We have changed to all G-Six except for feature, specific races and selected meetings for an 8-dog quad, moved the Wednesday meetings to be back to back Straight track and then Angle Park on a three week rotation where possible.

We have also made the Saturday morning meetings Time Graded with alternate conditions as this is the biggest group or greyhounds, with programming crucial to accommodate the weekly schedule.

The next meeting will be on this Saturday 14th November -

Timed Graded Meeting - “Worst to Best” rating. MAIDEN AND 1-4 WIN RACES WILL HAVE FIRST PREFERENCE

Greyhounds graded into 3 categories. Maidens, 1-4 wins & 5 or more wins. Specific grades of greyhounds are not considered except for Maidens. Races–N/P with Pathway Prizemoney. Reserves will be determined by Grader. There will be No Guarding. Refer to “Time Based Grading” published conditions.

STRAIGHT TRACK TRIALS INCLUDED ON TUESDAY NIGHTS AT MURRAY BRIDGE

GRSA has started trialling on the Straight Track at Murray Bridge on Tuesday nights.

This will provide an opportunity for those trainers wishing to nominate for the Wednesday meetings. Trials on Tuesday night will start at 5.30pm with Straight Track trials, no bookings required. The One Turn circle will NOW start at 6.30pm, with bookings required as normal.

It is encouraged for trainers wishing to race on Wednesday that they consider trialling first down the straight.

277M FOR MT GAMBIER UNTIL 305M INSTALLED

After consultation with the Mount Gambier GRC, GRSA have approved the re-introduction of 277m effective immediately, however, they will cease when a new distance of 305m is made available, hopefully by the middle of November.

The Club believes a short course distance will assist their greyhound numbers in the region and allow the Club to continue to meet nomination requirements.

There will only be two 277m races introduced effective immediately, one for young Maiden greyhounds with the youngest greyhounds gaining entry first based on age. There will also be a Masters 277m with eligible greyhounds being selected on age with the oldest given first preference. Masters conditions will be the same as races conducted in the Metro area with greyhounds 3¾ years and above eligible.

GRSA strongly recommends trainers nominate for multiple distances to ensure they do not miss out on a run at the meeting.

BEANIES NOW AVAILABLE FROM GRSA

Approved beanies are now part of the GRSA Dress Code Policy and available for sale from GRSA. These beanies are GRSA specific and are the only ones approved. They cost $10 and are available the GRSA racing office.
