Angle Park Preview

Racing News

Another terrific night of racing here at headquarters tonight, with a 10 event programme.  There are a couple of good things that we should be able to have a wager on tonight.  The kennel to follow is the Troy Murray camp as he has several chances on the programme.

Race 1 and this looks an open affair; Oran Bale will be working home late and appears a big chance.  The pacey one is Antonia Tyson from box 8.  Add in Parsec Bale for the trifecta.  Box Up 5.6.7.8

Race 2 and the Kenny Gill trained Farmeroo has the draw and the form to win this.  Velo Girl is more than capable when on song along with Spring Tyson who will need luck from the wide draw.  Box Up 2.3.5.8

The 3rd and Big Zap can bounce back into the winners circle with a win here.  He has been missing the kick of late but looks well placed in this.  Shamus’s Entity has the draw down on the rails and can kick up.  Box Up 1.3.5.8

Race 4 and I like the inside 3 with Alderley Reform looking the stand out from box 2.  He has won his last 3 all from inside draws and will take a power of beating.  Gunsmoke McBain can improve along with Victa Victoria.  Box Up 1.2.3.4

The 5th and Cash In Looper is in terrific form.  He can land on the pace and prove too strong despite the poor draw.  Sporting Tears is well drawn and can never be left out of calculations.   Box Up 1.4.5.8

Babylon Club is coming off a last start win in 29.92 from box 2 and tonight should prove very hard to beat again.  The sneaky one at good odds is Dyna Vanity for the Payne kennel along with My Party.  Box Up 1.4.6.7

The 7th and I am going with a good each way hope here in Nevada Smith.  He can be hit and miss but is a chance in a very open race.  The favourite should be Dakota Premier who is in terrific form.  Box Up 5.6.7.8

Race 8 and Gun McBain is in top form and has the pace to carve across from the wide draw.  He looks very hard to beat again.  Kalden Balerion is another who is in form along with Allen Illem who will be storming home.  Box Up 2.5.6.8.

The 9th and Dashing Dee Dee gets her chance in a very open race.  One who will be rattling home is Forest Bale for the Matcott kennel.  Box Up 2.4.5.8

Race 10 and this is a mystery bet race, I still lean to Red Can who can pinch this from box 7.  Necro Bale can kick up but is very hit and miss early.  Box Up 2.3.6.7

GRADING REVIEW PANEL
Main items from the Grading Review Panel in November which take effect from meetings from 1st January 2015.
Grade 6
The panel were generally comfortable with the Grade 6 format however recommended a slight change to the Angle Park Grade 6’s for Non SA Bred greyhounds. Currently greyhounds can only win two of the three Angle Parks before racing elsewhere. It was proposed that Angle Park Wednesday (Provincial 2) be considered with Gawler and Strathalbyn allowing for a win on a Wednesday over 388m for example to not carry the same impact as a Grade 6 win on Thursday night. This change would also assist those trainers regarding FOL and Catching Pen and provide more options for trainers. There will be no retrospectively in regard to grades.

Veteran’s Races
The GRP considered whether veterans races would benefit from the same approach applied to Juvenile racing where the Grader will consider a race of Veterans age as his first option when grading regardless of nomination (Feature Events excluded). The GRP were specific that this was only for Grade 5 greyhounds and would be treated as Non Penalty events with guarding as required. If trainers did not want to be considered for these races they could put “No Veterans” on their nomination.

Downgrade to Grade 5
The GRP considered when a greyhound has its second unplaced run and goes back to grade 5 company from a grade 4 they should be on the Order to gain an automatic start. Currently these greyhounds are not on the Order. The Grader advised that this would be worthwhile as these greyhounds have raced generally in FFA company and at times their form has tapered off at that level putting them at risk in gaining a run. The GRP recommended that this be added to number 6 on the Order of Preference which will include Grade 5 greyhounds.

ANGLE PARK THURSDAY
Next weeks Angle Park meeting features –
$6,875 John Gray Feature Grade 5 Final– 515m (Heats 15/1/15)
$3,065 Veterans FFA – 515m (Conditions apply)

$3,065 SA Owned Grade 5 – 515m
$4,800 FFA – 731m

PHOTO FINISHES NOW AVAILABLE ON THE GRSA WEBSITE
