TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

There are several good betting races on tonight’s programme and they are the opening event and race 6 and 7 all look pretty even.  So there should be a dollar or two for us to collect.

Race 1 and how good is this to start the night off.  It is very hard to go past Wild Soul down in box 1 as he is a very consistent performer.  The main dangers look to be the pacey Kalden Balerion and Galilee Spirit.  Box Up 1.4.6.7

Race 2 and again there are several chances.  I will stick with box 1 again in Long Gully Mark.  He was a solid run here Monday in quick time and can break through in this.  Add in Dakota La Flash and Top Gun McBain.  Box up 1.2.5.7

Race 3 and yes I have picked the red runner to win the first 3 races and Spring Tyson was very unlucky here last start and can definitely bounce back.  Woodside Jagger is more than capable when on song along with Quick Kisses.  Box Up 1.4.6.8

This is the distance affair of the night Race 4 and for a $1 investment we can get the trifecta in order 2 from 4.7.5.  Luna Jinx looks very hard to beat again here over her pet distance.

Race 5 and the two main chances for mine are Dakota Premier and Sporting Tears.  Both are more than capable and will be hard to toss.  Yambla Mick has been missing the kick of late but will be rattling home.  Add in Hashtag Harry for value.  Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 6 and this is a very open betting affair and there is a dog that has drawn wide and that is Set The Scene.  He will be rattling home and will be the widest runner on the home turn.  Fancy Rick is the form runner along with Farmeroo.  Box Up 1.2.5.6

Race 7 and as mentioned before this is another good betting race for trifecta punters.  There are a couple that will take beating and they are Van Carrho Flash and Firecette.  Add in Zac Bale and Bogie Yates.  Box Up 3.4.6.7

The 8th and Velo Girl has struck form with two wins here in a row both in quick time.  She is my top pick.  Coulta Model has pace and the draw and will be right in the mix.  Oran Bale could be the roughie of the race out wide.  Box Up 1.4.7.8

Race 9 and it’s the Lisa Rasmussen pair than are the main contenders here.  Boxes 2 and the 7 both are strong and love the 600m.  Box up 1.2.4.7

The final event after a very hot week Dakota Fancy can send us home on a winning note.  She can be hit and miss but is smart when on the bunny.  Alex Tyson is well drawn and is an improver along with Red Can.  Box Up 1.2.6.8.

PAWS OF THUNDER HEATS ON SATURDAY NIGHT

There are 8 heats with superstars of the track engaged like Allen Deed, Dyna Villa, Iva Vision, Winsome Prince and the SA owned and bred Oakvale Destiny just to name a few. It looks like a great series with the winner of the final on 17th January collecting a cool $100,000.

It will be a huge night of racing on Thursday January 22 at Angle Park with the running of the $6,875 Final of the John Gray Final. GRADING REVIEW PANEL
Main items from the Grading Review Panel in November which take effect from meetings from 1st January 2015.

Grade 6
The panel were generally comfortable with the Grade 6 format however recommended a slight change to the Angle Park Grade 6’s for Non SA Bred greyhounds. Currently greyhounds can only win two of the three Angle Parks before racing elsewhere. It was proposed that Angle Park Wednesday (Provincial 2) be considered with Gawler and Strathalbyn allowing for a win on a Wednesday over 388m for example to not carry the same impact as a Grade 6 win on Thursday night. This change would also assist those trainers regarding FOL and Catching Pen and provide more options for trainers. There will be no retrospectively in regard to grades.

Veteran’s Races
The GRP considered whether veterans races would benefit from the same approach applied to Juvenile racing where the Grader will consider a race of Veterans age as his first option when grading regardless of nomination (Feature Events excluded). The GRP were specific that this was only for Grade 5 greyhounds and would be treated as Non Penalty events with guarding as required. If trainers did not want to be considered for these races they could put “No Veterans” on their nomination.

Downgrade to Grade 5
The GRP considered when a greyhound has its second unplaced run and goes back to grade 5 company from a grade 4 they should be on the Order to gain an automatic start. Currently these greyhounds are not on the Order. The Grader advised that this would be worthwhile as these greyhounds have raced generally in FFA company and at times their form has tapered off at that level putting them at risk in gaining a run. The GRP recommended that this be added to number 6 on the Order of Preference which will include Grade 5 greyhounds.
