TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

Happy New Year !!!!!

Tonight’s 11 event programme looks fairly even so it’s a good chance to get a couple of handy trifectas up.

Race 1 and Kalden Balerion can kick us off with a win from box 7.  Beach Wary will need early luck from box 5 but will be in the final 4.  Box Up 2.5.7.8

The 2nd and Dakota Fancy looks the one to beat who should be charging across the field.  Irish Keepsake has the perfect draw of 1 but can be tardy early.  Box Up 1.2.4.8.

Race 3 and Dakota La Flash has a good turn of early pace and should lead all the way for mine.  Couta Model won on debut here from box1 and has the same draw again tonight.  Box Up 1.2.3.6.

Race 4 and I like the inside 3 and Boojerooma looks the main pick from box 3.  She has pace and should be cherry ripe for this on recent efforts.  Oran Bale will be running on along with Gunslinger Girl.  Box up 1.2.3.5

The 5th and there is a lot of early pace in this event down on the rails.  Spring Amanda is very smart in box 5 and will be powering home over the top.  Box up 1.2.3.5 in a good betting race.

Race 6 and there are at least 5 chances.  But we can’t pick them all, so lets go with Sporting Tears out in box 7.  Allen Namour is well drawn on the fence and appears a trifecta chance.   Box Up 1.2.5.7

Race 7 and this is a very open affair and Firecette has the form on the board after his last start win here in 30.13 from box 3.  Mr Leonardo can be hit and miss but is more than capable when on song.  Box Up 1.2.3.7

Race 8 and this is the New Year Sprint and what a race it is with all 8 having a chance.  I have settled on Van Carrho Flash from the Murray kennel in box 3.  He will be hard to beat with an ounce of luck early.  Blue Viper has a good turn of pace but has been battling to run a solid 500m of late.  Box Up 2.3.5.6

The 9th and this is the distance event and Luna Jinx can bounce back into the winners circle but she will start very short.  Zara McLaren has been in terrific form and is more than capable.  Box Up 1.2.6

Race 10 and the speedy Gun McBain gets the nod from me.  He loves a wide draw and should lead all the way.  Victa Victoria will be charging home late but is slow early.  Box Up 1.2.6.7

The final event on New Year’s Day and this is a very tough event if your not in front by now, well good luck!!  Box up 1.3.4.8

GRADING REVIEW PANEL
Main items from the Grading Review Panel in November which take effect from meetings from 1st January 2015.

Grade 6

The panel were generally comfortable with the Grade 6 format however recommended a slight change to the Angle Park Grade 6’s for Non SA Bred greyhounds. Currently greyhounds can only win two of the three Angle Parks before racing elsewhere. It was proposed that Angle Park Wednesday (Provincial 2) be considered with Gawler and Strathalbyn allowing for a win on a Wednesday over 388m for example to not carry the same impact as a Grade 6 win on Thursday night. This change would also assist those trainers regarding FOL and Catching Pen and provide more options for trainers. There will be no retrospectively in regard to grades.

Veteran’s Races

The GRP considered whether veterans races would benefit from the same approach applied to Juvenile racing where the Grader will consider a race of Veterans age as his first option when grading regardless of nomination (Feature Events excluded). The GRP were specific that this was only for Grade 5 greyhounds and would be treated as Non Penalty events with guarding as required. If trainers did not want to be considered for these races they could put “No Veterans” on their nomination.

Downgrade to Grade 5

The GRP considered when a greyhound has its second unplaced run and goes back to grade 5 company from a grade 4 they should be on the Order to gain an automatic start. Currently these greyhounds are not on the Order. The Grader advised that this would be worthwhile as these greyhounds have raced generally in FFA company and at times their form has tapered off at that level putting them at risk in gaining a run. The GRP recommended that this be added to number 6 on the Order of Preference which will include Grade 5 greyhounds.
