SEASONS GREETINGS

On behalf of the GRSA Board Members, Management and Staff we would like to wish all greyhound industry participants and followers a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

Well this is the last chance to win some cash on a Thursday night before Christmas.  I would like to wish all participants a safe and Merry Day on the 25th and don’t forget to give your greyhounds a special treat for Christmas.

Race 1 and Wheels of Fire is the form runner and will take a power of beating.  We can’t leave out Breaker Kahn who is in the in-form kennel of Kath Johnstone.  Squall Bale is very slow early but will be running on over the top.  Box Up 1.2.4.6

The 2nd event and this is a tough race as it’s a very open affair.  There are several who can lead and a couple who will be charging home late.  Allinga Dot has good country form and is drawn to run a bold race from box 3.  Add in Dashing Dee Dee and Cherokee McLaren.  Box Up 3.6.7.8  in a good betting race.

Race 3 and there is a bit of pace in this down on the rails.  I am going with the inside 3 and add the 6 who is knocking on the door.  Box Up 1.2.3.6.

Race 4 and Luna Jinx made short work of these last week, with the only difference being that we see the return of Psychotic Gold.  They look the pair to beat so let’s go in order for a $1, 2.8.1

The 5th and Aston Wingard is in form and has the pace to kick up early.  The main dangers look to be Dyna Paul and Sporting Tears.  Box Up 1.3.4.6

Race 6 and the Murray kennel should be able to back up with another winner, and that is Big Zap.  He can be hit and miss on box rise but is very strong and will be flying home.  Disco Dave has pace out in box 8 and is a place chance.  Box Up 2.3.5.8

Race 7 and Fancy Rick is boxed to win.  He has the pace to lead from the rails draw.  Black Bottle has struck form and is another with early burn.  Box up 1.2.3.8 in a very good betting race.

The 8th and how good is this event, The Doug Payne Feature final.  Set The Scene is very smart and the wide draw is a bonus.  Blue Viper will be right in the mix along with Lannister.  Box Up 1.2.6.7

Race 9 and this is a 600m event and Black Daddy will appreciate the small field.  The likely leader will be Spring Amanda so it will be a match in 2.  Let’s go with 8.4.6 in order for a $1.

Race 10 and a very open affair for mine.  I like the book ends as they both have early pace.  Spring Pearl can be hit and miss early but is strong this looks a good pick 4 event.  So go with 1.4.7.8.

The final event Race 11 and we can go home on a winner with Koombooyana Kid.  He looks the leader out in the 7.  Dyna Phoebe is another who will be kicking up.  3 & 7 look the obvious Quinella.

DOUG PAYNE TONIGHT
A great night of racing at headquarters tonight featuring the $6,875 Doug Payne Feature for Open SA Bred greyhounds. It’s an outstanding field with the box draw making it even more interesting with all runners given a hope of filling the placings.  Impressive last start winner Set The Scene looks nicely boxed in box 6 for Laurie Cahalan however there is plenty of speed on his inside from Blue Viper, Punishment, Emerley Senorita and Taser McBain. Not to mention last stat winners Vuchko, Lannister and Gun McBain who all have excellent ability. It looks a great race on paper.

Trainers are reminded to collect a free bottle of wine from the Racing Office tonight when getting their Trainers Fee to thank them for their participation this year.

HOBART THOUSAND FINAL TONIGHT
Australia’s Feature Calendar switches to Hobart tonight with the running of the $75,000 to the winner Hobart Thousand Final. One of the National Calendar’s longest running feature races, it has its origins back in the 1930’s.
A top field has been assembled from the heats last week who have progressed through to tonight’s Group 1 Final. TattsBet will be offering a Fixed Priced service on the Hobart Thousand Final with Melbourne Cup winner Dyna Villa and Above All who was super impressive in his heat look hardest to beat.

ANGLE PARK ON BOXING DAY DURING THE DAY WITH INCREASED PRIZEMONEY
As there is no Thursday night racing next week due to Christmas Day GRSA has decided to increase the prizemoney for the Friday Day meeting at Angle Par. All races on Friday 26th December will be worth $2,000 and will be a City B meeting for grading purposes. Races will be considered as if they were Monday night grades to allow trainers to “Beat The Grader” from Monday to Friday and Friday to Monday giving them a chance to win two races for just one grade. All races will be 515m, 600m and 731m to be run with the Catching Pen in use. There will be no 388m on this class of program.
*Nominations close Monday 22ND December with GRSA at 9.00am.

SA GREYHOUNDS SHOOTING FOR GROUP 1 GLORY INTERSTATE
On Saturday night Ben Rawlings has taken Grifter Bale across the border to run in the heats of the Group 1 Sale Cup over the 650m. Grifter Bale has been in super form over the 600m since joining the Rawlings camp with two wins and a second from his three starts at headquarters. He has drawn box 2 in the first heat of the Cup which is race four on the program due to start at 6.18pm (SA Time). There are 6 heats of the Cup featuring some of the best middle distance greyhounds in the land including Star Recall, Allen Deed, Texas Titan and superstar stayer Sweet It Is.

Kathy Johnstone has also jumped across the border to the Meadows on Saturday night with her front running sprinter Black Bottle engaged in the heats of the Group 1 Silver Chief. After two brilliant wins at Angle Park he has deserved a shot at the big time and has drawn box 1 in the first heat of the feature which is due to be run at 7.07pm (SA time). The Silver Chief also features a top line up including Dyna Villa, Above All, Gorham Bale and Clash Of Kings.
