TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

The highlight tonight is the Brian Johnstone Memorial Final which is race 8 on the programme with a massive $25,000 to the winner on offer.  Victorian trainer Jeff Britton has qualified four runners and can nearly run the First 4.

Race 1 and Set The Scene has his perfect draw of 7 he will be winding up down the back and will take a power of beating.  He can be hit and miss on box rise and looks very hard to beat.  Allen Illem will be running on along with the well drawn Lolly Bale.  Box up 1.5.7.8.

Race 2 and this is a terrific betting race as there are several chances.  Dyna Drama is in form and has her paw on the till.  She can kick up on the fence and will be right in the mix.  Velocity Tara is a good eachway hope and now the reserve getting a run Aston Wingard puts it right in the mix.  Box Up 2.5.7.9.

The 3rd and it is very hard to go past Big Zap for Troy Murray.  He is resuming and was a last start winner in a slick 30.48 at Gawler from this draw.  Senni Tony is a rough chance for a place along with the pacey Disco Dave.  Box Up 1.3.5.6.

The 4th and the Murray kennel can get a race to race double when Van Carrho Flash wins.  He is a very smart performer and looks the winner again from box 8.  Fancy Rick is more than handy along with Illusive Allen.  Box Up 1.2.3.8

Kim Johnstone has Wild Soul in form and he is the measuring stick in race 5.  His best form has been from wider draws but with 2 sub 30 sec wins on the trot here, he should be hard to beat again from the rails draw.  Galilee Spirit will be carving across along with Emerley Senorita.  Box Up 2.4.6.8.

Race 6 and this is a 600m affair and the main chances have drawn awkwardly.  Grifter Bale was very impressive on debut here when winning by over 7L and can only improve with another look at the track.  Blue Viper has a heap of pace and will be the likely leader and Aeroplane Bowser has struck form and will be flying home late.  Box Up 3.5.7.8

The 7th and another 600m event and we see the Strathalbyn Cup winner in Black Daddy who makes his South Australian City debut and has drawn well down in box 1.  He loves this trip and will be very hard to beat.  Apocal Bale for Tony Rasmussen is in outstanding form and is the big danger.  Box Up 1.5.6.8 in a terrific race.

This is the major event of the night, the Brian Johnstone Memorial.  How good is this particular race.  Oakvale Destiny missed the kick last week and was runner up behind kennel mate Textas Titan.  She is a class performer and loves this circuit and should bounce back.  Oakvale Flyer charged home to score in 29.95 from box 1 in the semi, and is well suited from the wide draw.  Texas Titan carved out a best of night run in 29.66 here last week and is in outstanding form.  Box up the Jeff Britton Four 3.4.6.7.

Race 9 and Zac Bale has been struggling for form of late from wide draws.  He appears a BIG improver from the rails draw tonight, Yambla Mick can cap off a big night for the Murray kennel after a week off.  Box up 1.2.3.6
If you like fishing jump on Coorong Kid out in box 8 in race 10.  He is hit and miss on box rise but is very smart when close enough.  He appears well suited in this and gets the nod.  Add Max Tyson and Aha McBain.  Box Up 1.6.8.

Race 11 and Squall Bale will be charging home late and is a big chance along with Dyna Garth who is the likely improver.  Box Up 1.3.5.7

I will go with the Murray kennel to have a HUGE night
Race 3 No 1 Big Zap, Race 4 No 8 Van Carrho Flash, Race 9 No 2 Yambla Mick

LOCAL INDUSTRY NEWS
2014 BRIAN JOHNSTONE FINAL
Last Thursday night at Angle Park there were two terrific semi-finals of the Group 3 Brian Johnstone final where the first four placegetters from each semi-final qualified for tonights feature final. The fastest qualifier for the final was Texas Titan for master Victorian trainer Jeff Britton who overcame a slow start to power home to victory in a slick 29.66 in the second semi-final. He defeated his higher rated kennel mate and sister in Oakvale Destiny who also walked out of the boxes and railed hard before just going down in the final straight. Both look hardest to beat tonight after drawing nicely in boxes 4 and 3 respectively.

The first semi-final was a two dog war between the Jeff Britton kennel mates Oakvale Flyer and Weblec Belle. Leaving the front straight on the first occasion Oakvale Flyer led thanks to the inside just ahead of Weblec Belle and from there no more than a head separated them until the winning post with Oakvale Flyer prevailing in a solid 29.95. It was a stirring battle between the Britton kennel mates given him four qualifiers for the final. Cameron Butcher qualified two of his brightest stars in Spicy Peppa and Dodger I Am for tonights final. Four greyhounds tonight also come from the extremely successful litter of Vapour Whirl x Foot Luce bred locally by Nathan Wilson and Ken & Melissa Trowbridge.

The Final field in Box Draw order is:
1.  Spicy Peppa                                        Cameron Butcher
2.  Gun McBain                            Vadim Roz
3.  Oakvale Destiny                            Jeff Britton
4.  Texas Titan                             Jeff Britton
5.  Dodger I Am                            Cameron Butcher
6.  Weblec Belle                           Jeff Britton
7.  Oakvale Flyer                                Jeff Britton
8.  Sunday Shoes                                Nathan Wilson

9.  Gunsmoke McBain (1st Res)          SCR
10.Young Gun McBain (2nd Res)         SCR

The Group 3 Brian Johnstone Final is for eligible SA Bred greyhounds whelped between July 2012 and December 2012. The $36,500 Final is race 8 tonight and is listed to jump at 9.11pm (SA time).
Tattsbet is offering a super Exacta Jackpot of over $8,000 on the final with the pool expected to get to over $50,000.

The final part of this series will be the Gawler Classic 2014 to be run in January 2015.

GROUP 1 BRISBANE CUP FINAL TONIGHT
The Group 1 Brisbane Cup Final tonights looks a fabulous race with an outstanding line up qualifying through the heats last week.

With $75,000 on offer to the winner the racing will be tight and tough.

Patrons on-course at Angle Park will be able to watch all the action as well as compare tote and bookmaker odds. Tattsbet will have fixed odds available on the series with a  First 4 Jackpot on the Final of $5,000. The final is race 8 on tonights program due to start at 9.16pm (SA Time). My tip for the final is Queensland star Iva Vision from the stripe who should almost lead and will be hard to catch.

The Final field in Box Draw order is:
1.  Cyndie’s Special                W Elson
2.  Iva Vision                            P Young
3.  You Can Talk                     P Ruetschi
4.  Exhibitionist                        D Chapman
5.  Le Sirenuse                               T Tzouvelis
6.  Fusaichi Kahn                     G Dart
7.  Keybox                                D McDonald
8.  Kiss Me Ketut                     D Burnett
9.  Happy Haswell (1st Res)      SCR
10.Clash Of Kings (2nd Res)      SCR

ALDERLEY REFORM SCRATCHED FROM PUPPY CLASSIC TONIGHT
Unfortunately for SA greyhound fans Alderley Reform for trainer Terry Cahalan has been scratched from the Group 1 Dapto Puppy Classic final tonight. He drew box 2 in a high quality event and would have been one of the main chances.

NEW RED VESTS A BIG HIT
After terrific feedback from the Industry the new red vests are being distributed to all of our tracks to be used as the main apparel for participants. Participants are able to purchase their very own red vets for $20 however GRSA will still always have some available. These vets look very smart and come up particularly well on Sky Racing promoting SA Racing so with that in mind the long parade coats will be phased out of action with participants required to have a black or navy jumper available to be worn under the vests.
