TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

Unbelievable to think that we are halfway through the month of November and we need to build the Christmas bank big time in the next few weeks.  There are several open races tonight that we can surely snare a handy winner or two at eachway odds.

Race 1 and I like the Kenny Gill trained Farmeroo.  He will be better suited by the sprint tonight and only needs an ounce of luck from box 5 to win the opening event.  The big dangers look to be Disco Dave who has early pace and Allen Illem who will be rattling home late.  Box Up 1.2.4.5

The 2nd and I am going with pace and that is Black Bottle out in the 7.  He has a good turn of speed and will find this easier than last start.  Gun McBain and Hashtag Harry both in the same kennel will be running on and fill a place.  Box Up 1.6.7.8

The 3rd and Micko Fozz is in fine form with two handy wins here and Port Augusta.  He has the pace to lead from this draw and should be too strong for these.  Box Up 1.3.6.8. in a good race

Race 4 and there looks to be several chances in this.  Apocal Bale is in form and is in the Tony Rasmussen kennel.  He has broken the 30 sec barrier twice here in his last 4 runs.  Everlasting Gaze can be hit and miss but is very strong in the run home.  Box Up 4.5.6.7.

The 5th and Woodside Jagger has been knocking on the door lately and is a big chance of leading this event early.  Should go very close.  Spot Goes Racing will be running on and is a must for the trifecta.  Don’t overlook Velocity Daff who is well drawn.  Box Up 1.2.5.7.

The 6th and I tipped him last week and he failed to fire but Senni Tony can return to form from box 2.  He just needs to be close enough early to win.  As It Goes is another who is very strong and looks a big chance.  Add in Van Carrho Flash for the top 3.  Box Up 2.4.5.7.

Race 7 and the inside brigade appear the main chances.  They are Fancy Rick and Wild Soul.  One is a front runner the other will be rattling home over the top.  Emerley Senorita has been in terrific form and a win wouldn’t surprise here.  Add in Genghis Kahn who will be winding up late.  Box Up 1.2.6.7.

The 8th and High Market has won his past two starts in quick fashion in lower grades.  He steps up here and this draw of 5 is a bit of a worry.  Boojerooma has pace and will be carving across from the wide draw.  Box Up 1.3.5.8.

The Distance affair is only a 5 dog field and Zara McLaren is the form runner in box 4.  She is strong and looks very hard to beat.  Long Gully Surf and Shamus’s Entity can fill a place. Box Up 1.2.4.6

Race 10 and Midway Magic won from this draw last start here in 30.25 and is a chance of making it back to back tonight.  Aha McBain is in the in-form kennel of Todd Kelly and is drawn for a bold showing.  Box Up 2.3.7.8.

The final event of the night and Red Can is a chance of bouncing back from a run where he was checked from pillar to post last week.  The Wally Harkins trained runner in Aeroplane Bowser will be flying home in the run and is a big chance.  Box Up 2.3.6.8

LOCAL INDUSTRY NEWS

2014 DAISH IRRIGATION & FODDER STRATHALBYN CUP FINAL SUNDAY
After three fabulous heats last Sunday the $10,000 Daish Irrigation & Fodder Strathalbyn Cup Final this Sunday looks to be one of the highlights on the local racing calendar this season. The Club has drawn together an outstanding field for their main meeting of the year and a huge crowd is expected to attend the Southern Greyhound Raceway.
Last weeks heats were taken out by the Troy Murray trained Kalden Kostello who ran home strongly to win in a handy 32.17, Charter for Lauren Harris who sat just off the pace before gunning down Kalden Balerion in the straight to win running away in a solid 31.60 to be the fastest qualifier and Woodnear who showed his class in winning the final heat for Paul Barry in a handy 31.89.

The Cup Final will be race 8 on Sunday due to start at 7.20pm (SA time) with full coverage of their 11 event program on Sky Racing 2.

Also featured on Sundays program is the $5,000 Next Lending SA Country Cup final featuring greyhounds which qualified in heats run at Gawler, Strathalbyn, Mount Gambier and Port Augusta. It is race 6 on the program due to start at 6.34pm and Gawler representative Punishment for trainer Carole Scott looks very hard to beat however the likes of Mount Gambier representative Thanks Tubby for David Peckham comes into the race with outstanding form on the South East track. It looks to be another highlight on Strathalbyn’s feature night of racing.

The Daish Irrigation & Fodder Strathalbyn Cup Consolation is race 4 on the program due to start at 5.55pm for those greyhounds which failed to qualify for the $10,000 final. The race is worth $2,000 so it will be a very keenly contested affair. Unfortunately this race was redrawn midweek after it was discovered Lannister for Troy Murray was included into a grade 5 event on the program instead of the consolation. As there was a vacant box in the consolation Lannister was added to the field and then the race was redrawn with Lannister being scratched from his engagement in race 7.

*Please note that due to Lew Newton being unavailable on Cup night due to hip surgery the Les Newton Trophy Grade 6 over 536m was moved back to the 30th November when Les will be able to attend and present the trophy.*

*Nominations close with GRSA tomorrow (Friday 14th November) at 9.00am.

The final part of this series will be the Gawler Classic 2014 which will be run in January when the new facility at Gawler is up and running.

GROUP 1 MELBOURNE CUP HEATS TONIGHT
The action really hots up at Sandown tonight with the running of the eight heats of the 2014 Group 1 TAB Melbourne Cup. The Heats have drawn all of the current stars of Australian Group racing. Some of the big names that will be competing in the heats include Adelaide Cup winner Allen Deed, recent Topgun winner Buckle Up Wes, last week's four-dog Shootout winner Ivan Vision plus the likes of Hume Cup winner My Bro Fabio, Oakvale Destiny, Keybow and the exciting Secret Spell.
Also to be run tonight will be the four heats of the Group 1 Solo Bold Trease Cup over the 715m distance. The heats feature stars of the staying ranks Sweet It Is, Dyna Kayla and Blinkers On.
Local followers can enjoy all the action at Angle Park on Sky Racing and through the tote and bookmakers on course. If you can’t get to the track the SA TAB will cover the meeting as per normal.

GREYHOUND OF THE MONTH – OCTOBER
Greyhound of the Month for October was the Bob Isaacson trained Galilee Spirit who had a super month of racing, winning two races from his four starts with one placing. In a tight month of voting he got the nod from the panel just ahead of Wild Soul, Punishment and Winbrook.

The son of Aston Galilee and Southpaw Chic started the month off in a heat of the Adelaide Cup where he started one of the favourites however he found trouble and was unplaced before he bounced back with a nice third at headquarters.

He was again well fancied in the heats of the SA Sprint Championship and this time there was no disappointment as he was able to push through and lead on the first turn and from there went on to win well in a solid 30.04. Drawing box 3 in a hot final there was some suggestion that he may not be able to lead however that was put to rest moments after the start when he exploded to the front and ran his competition ragged, flying around the Angle Park loam in a blistering 29.70 and taking out the listed feature final.

At the end of the month Galilee Spirit had won 29 races from his 74 lifetime starts along with 17 minor placings and prizemoney of almost $60,000.

RUN OF THE MONTH - OCTOBER
The Run of the Month for October was Galilee Spirit for trainer Bob Isaacson who produced a flying performance at Angle Park in the SA Sprint Championship Final over the 515m on Thursday 30th October.
Galilee Spirit pinged the lids from box 3 running a sizzling 4.37 to lead the high quality line up. He went down the back in 16.77 before finding plenty in the run to the line to win by a length and record a brilliant 29.70.

AGRC NEWS

LUCKY DRAW
We have done a new lucky dog draw for the new year and it is listed later in this document, it starts tonight (Thursday 13th November).

Reminder on how it works, this year we have drawn 4 names for each week’s Thursday race 8, next to each name is the box number of the dog you have drawn in Race 8.  If your box number happens to win Race 8, you can renew your membership next year (30th June) for half price.  We have drawn 8 names on the night of the AGRC Xmas dinner, so some one has to win that night.

If you happen to own or train greyhounds racing on the date that your name has been drawn, you can choose to have your dogs drawn instead of the lucky box number and it works the same if your dog drawn happens to win.  It is up to you to notify an AGRC committee member on the night that you want to take up this option and we will randomly draw one of your dogs competing on the night.

AGRC Committee members are Alan Amezdroz, Barry Stewart, Petar Jovanovic, Natalie Bailey, Gabe Vistolli and Gavin Harris.

AGRC ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The annual general meeting for the Adelaide Greyhound Racing Club will be held on Sunday 23rd November, 2014, starting at 10:30 am in the Sportsman bar at McQueens Tavern. After the meeting is completed members in attendance will be provided a meal and drinks. Please come along to discuss club initiatives and give the management committee direction on what they would like us to undertake in the coming year.

AGRC XMAS FUNCTION
The AGRC committee has booked 120 places at Chasers Restaurant on Thursday 11th December, for our annual Xmas function.  All members and their partners are welcome.  The club pays for the buffet and provides drink vouchers for you both on the night. If you wish to bring extra guests that is fine but any guests will pay the normal price for the buffet.  If you could please advise Gavin Harris 0418853111 or email [email protected], or Natalie Bailey 0417855532 or email [email protected] by the 4th of December, so we can finalise the numbers. This is great value for all members, so we encourage you all to come along.  On the night the AGRC committee will be conducting some raffles and seat prizes as well and it is always a good, fun night.

NEW RED VESTS A BIG HIT
After terrific feedback from the Industry the new red vests are being distributed to all of our tracks to be used as the main apparel for participants. Participants are able to purchase their very own red vets for $20 however GRSA will still always have some available. These vets look very smart and come up particularly well on Sky Racing promoting SA Racing so with that in mind the long parade coats will be phased out of action with participants required to have a black or navy jumper available to be worn under the vests.
An implementation date for Red Vests to be the only apparel used will be advised shortly.

HOT WEATHER POLICY
A reminder to trainers with the hot weather coming to make sure they are aware of the updated conditions relating to the Hot Weather Policy. This policy is available on the GRSA website and also at the track.

PRIZEMONEY INCREASES
In response to better than expected first quarter returns from wagering on South Australian greyhound racing product by national wagering operators, the Board of GRSA has resolved to make an additional allocation to industry returns for the current year.  With effect from November 10, the returns for Category 2 racing which currently includes Monday night meetings at Angle Park and Tuesdays at Gawler will increase by an average of 15% across all grades.  Allowing for the previous increases announced in July, this decision takes the total increase to industry returns in 2014-15 to more than $370,000 equating to 6% growth on the previous year.

Additional funding will also be provided to Strathalbyn, Mt Gambier, Port Augusta and the GOTBA to remove their dependence upon the charging of nomination fees for race meetings at those venues.  This initiative will not only satisfy a key objective within the 2012 Strategic Plan, but also reflects the Board’s belief that such charges represent an unreasonable burden on our participants.  On the basis of the current arrangements, the removal of nomination fees will result in an annual saving of $50,000 to participants at those venues.

The following changes to category 2 stakemoney and the removal of all nomination fees will take effect from Monday 10th November, 2014.
