Telling the Tail by the Shadow

The top quality South Australian sprinters get to strut their stuff in the SA Sprint Championship final tonight which is race 8 on the programme.  The winner’s cheque is a more than handy $15,000 to the winner and the event is a very open affair with more than 5 main chances to collect the major prize.  There are 9 more races to support the major event and it is a tough night to find a special which means it will be a great night for punters to get a couple of good Trifectas and Pick 4’s.

Race 1 and Fancy Rick is in terrific form and is well drawn again to kick up and take the early lead.  He proved far too strong with a win here Monday night and for mine looks very hard to beat.  Add in the run on type in He’s a Villian out in box 7 and they appear the main two chances.  Box Up 1.3.7.8

The 2nd and you won’t get a wider affair, I am going with Onus On Me down in box 1.  He has early dash but is yet to carve out a quick time, but he has the form on the board and is well drawn.  Ruby Swift is strong and will be right in the mix along with Spring Tyson and Kankakee McLaren, it is a toughie!!!!  Box Up 1.2.4.6 maybe 7 and 8, Good Luck.

Race 3 and the pace will come from the 1, 5 and 7, but let’s go with Just As Fancy out in box 8 who will need a lot of luck early to cross but is very strong.  Box Up 1.5.7.8

The Distance affair of the night and we went with the pacey Spring Amanda last start and she was run down but she is a chance of pinching this and holding on in the final stages.  Manila Express has continued to impress and looks the favourite.  Sheza Ten and the pacey Pandora’s Sin all have chances.  We can’t forget Zara McLaren from box 1, as she will be running on late.  Box Up 1.3.6.8

Race 5 and the two big hopes are the Petar Jovanovic trained Sneaky Little Me and Van Carrho Flash for Troy Murray.  They can be hit and miss and there are several other chances like Red Line Lad and Velocity Daff.  Box Up 3.5.6.7 in a tough race.

The 6th and it is very hard to go past Wheels Of Fire out in box 8.  He led them a merry dance last start and won by a mammoth 6L in a handy 30.16 from this draw.  He has a picket fence of wins beside his name.  Top pick.  Add in Set The Scene who looks a big improver from box 1 and Senni Tony who will be storming home late.  Box Up 1.3.6.8

Race 7 and the pacey Emerley Senorita can return to the winners circle from box 2 by leading and winning for the Hurley kennel.  Kalden Blanco is another who is in outstanding form and has a heap of pace and ability.  We can’t leave out Farmeroo who is always a chance of bobbing up.  Box Up 2.4.5.8

This is the Big One, the SA Sprint Championship final.  The main two for mine are the book ends.  One has pace the other will be rattling home late, so I will go with the pace in Dustnado who is in outstanding form and will be very hard to beat.  Wild Soul can be hit and miss on box rise and will be pushing up into the 1st turn and will be in the hunt.  Genghis Kahn is better suited over more ground and will be high flying late and is a big chance along with Galilee Spirit who is another who can kick up.  Put them all together in a high quality event and Box Up 1.3.7.8.  Well done to all connections on making the final.
Race 9 and Woodside Jagger nearly pinched it here last week when 2nd in 30.08 from box 2.  He is a chance of being a front runner again and a win wouldn’t be a surprise.  Lannister is well drawn and from the rails will be right in the mix.  We can’t forget a handy type in Piero and Alderley Retreat who are more than capable when on song.  Box Up 1.3.5.6

The final event and hopefully it won’t be the get out stakes.  Let’s go home on a winner in Storm Allen.  She can be hit and miss early but will hunt up and take beating.  Boonoona Boy is another who is moody out of the lids and is a chance if close enough.  Box Up 1.4.6.8

NEW RED VESTS A BIG HIT
After terrific feedback from the Industry the new red vests are being distributed to all of our tracks to be used as the main apparel for participants. Participants are able to purchase their very own red vests for $20 however GRSA will still always have some available. These vets look very smart and come up particularly well on Sky Racing promoting SA Racing.  With that in mind, the long parade coats will be phased out of action with participants required to have a black or navy jumper available to be worn under the vests.
An implementation date for red vests to be the only apparel used will be advised shortly.

2014 SA SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL TONIGHT
For the second time in 2014 the best locally trained sprinters in the State gathered at Angle Park last week in two heats of the SA Sprint Championships. With the ongoing redevelopment of the Gawler venue the SA Sprint Championship came forward from January 2015 to October this year with the Gawler Cup moving from its normal early November timeslot to February next year.

We had an exciting series in Janurary and the October edition looks no different after the heats were conducted last week. The fastest qualifier for tonight was in the second heat with the Steve Hoffman trained speedster Dustnado just nailing Black Bottle for Kathy Johnstone in the shadows of the post in a slick 29.88 for the 515m journey. Both greyhounds showed great speed to lead and avoided interference on the first turn which affected the chances of Adelaide Cup finalist Valladares and Proven Juddy. Dustnado has drawn nicely out in box 8 and should be able to carve across however Wild Soul who ran third in this heat after a slow beginning looks the one to beat after drawing box 1 tonight.

The first heat saw Galilee Spirit for Bob Isaacson use his exceptional early speed to kick through from box 1 after being all but crossed by Kalden Gambino. Once finding the front the Isaacson trained flyer was never headed going on to record a solid win in a handy 30.04 with Kalden Gambino sticking on well for second and Genghis Kahn again running home nicely over the sprint journey for third. Galilee Spirit has drawn well in box 3 tonight however there is plenty of early burn in the final so luck to the first corner will play a huge part.

The $22,000 Listed feature will be race 8 on tonight’s program and is listed to jump at 9.11pm (SA time). Tattsbet are offering a huge $13,972 Jackpot on the Trifecta so it is well worth having a crack at with the pool expected to reach $60,000.

The Final field in Box Draw order is:
1.  Wild Soul                                            Kim Johnstone
2.  Kalden Kapone                         Troy Murray
3.  Galilee Spirit                                         Bob Isaacson
