TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

How quick does another Thursday appear and tonight we are back to an 11 event card and we have two quality heats of the SA Sprint Championship.  They are races 6 and 7 on the programme added to a terrific night of racing at headquarters.

Race 1 and I have tipped Yiche in past weeks without winning however she is pacey and can jump to the front tonight and pinch this one from box 3. The Angela Modra kennel is in good form and we can kick off with an early winner.  Yoda Bale at odds can fill a place along with Kalden Blanco.   Box Up 2.3.6.7

The 2nd event and this looks wide open with a heap of chances.  So we will go with pace and that is Taser McBain out in box 8.  Cherokee McLaren is drawn for a bold showing down in box 2 and will be hard to beat.  Box Up 2.5.7.8

The 3rd and this race has a lot of hit and miss types on box rise so we will go with a bit of value out in box 8 with Flying Bale.  The top 4 look to be 2.3.4.8 and it looks a good trifecta race for mine with value.

This is the distance race of the night and we have 6 runners.  It appears a two dog race but there can always be an upset over this trip.  Let’s go with the pacey Spring Amanda.  She is in good form and can carve across early and pinch this.  Pandora’s Sin continues to perform and is the BIG danger.  Box Up 1.2.5.7

Race 5 and this is a very interesting affair with now Baz Will Rock getting a run from box 1 who is sure to be well tried after winning on Monday night.  Big Zap needs to improve his box manners but if he does he is close to a win.  Add in Danyo’s Luke for Colin Swain who is in form.   Box Up 2.3.6.7 with a watch on the reserve.

Race 6 and this looks one of the better bets of the night and that is Galilee Spirit for the Isaacson kennel.  He was very unlucky last start after being checked early, and from box 1 will take a power of beating.  Winbrook is very pacey and was an Adelaide Cup finalist.  Add in Genghis Kahn who will be flying home.  Box Up 1.4.7.8

Race 7 and another Cup finalist in Valladares can bounce back and lead and win from his draw of 7.  He has a ton of pace and will take catching.  Wild Soul can NEVER be overlooked along with Dustnado.  All have the quality to win here.  Box Up 2.3.7.8

The 8th and it looks a 2 dog race and they are the 1 and the 7.  They are both in terrific form and this will be a very tight race.  Cool Guinness is more than capable of causing an upset along with Absolute Boss to fill the placing’s.  Box Up 1.4.7.8.

Race 9 and this is the 600m event of the night.  I will go with Animate again after her win here last start over this trip, she can lead again and is always hard to run down when on the bunny.  The big dangers are the pacey Victa Victoria and Camouflage Model.  Box Up 2.4.5.8.

The 10th and she will start very short and that is Blue Viper.  The pacey blue sprinter jumped straight to the front here last week and led them a merry dance with a 9L win in 30.06.  Hard to beat again.  Box Up 5 From 1.4.8.

Race 11 the final event, and this is a tricky race.  Young Gun McBain has pace but does get a little leg weary over the last 100m but hopefully is a chance of pinching this.  Deadly Caper and Fiesty Fairy are chances along with the Don Foster sprinter Kankakee McLaren.  Box up 1.3 7.8.

SA SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP HEATS
Tonight we have two outstanding heats of the SA Sprint Championships for SA trained greyhounds and it features a very strong line-up of sprinters including Group 1 Adelaide Cup finalists Winbrook and Valladares along with Cup consolation winner Wild Soul. The listed Feature final is worth $15,000 to the winner and will be run next week (30th October) which carries a total purse of $22,000. The SA Sprint Championship is normally run in January however with the development of the Gawler track the Gawler Cup has moved to February with the SA Sprint filling the late October position for this year.

The first heat of the SA Sprint Championship is Race 6 on tonight’s program due to start at 8.29pm (SA time) and looks to have plenty of chances. The Bob Isaacson trained speedster Galilee Spirit has drawn perfectly in box 1 and looks the likely leader however there will be plenty of challengers. Winbrook ran a nice second last start after competing in the Group 1 Adelaide Cup and looks well suited in box 8. Kalden Gambino and Dakota Premier have been going far better than their form suggests and if either lobbed second or third they would be hard to hold out. Not to mention Genghis Kahn who will be flying home and Set The Scene who needs room to the first turn however can power home. This race is one to be missed.

The second and final heat which is race 7 due to start at 8.52pm features Adelaide Cup finalist Valladares for Lauren Harris and Cup consolation winner Wild Soul for Kim Johnstone in what looks a high quality heat. Valladares has drawn box 7 and showed his explosive speed by leading early in the Adelaide Cup and looks the leader again here. Wild Soul is probably the best run home sprinter in SA and if he is close enough will look to gun down Valladares over the concluding stages. There will be plenty of challengers however with Black Bottle, Dustnado, Farmeroo and Proven Juddy all capable of leading and have the brilliance when on the bunny to win. Both Very Bitta and Kalden Kapone will need luck from their boxes however they have shown that they can match it with the best in SA on their night.

The first four placegetters from each heat will qualify for next weeks listed final with the two fastest fifth placegetters declared reserves. The box draw for the final will take place on track after race 8 tonight.

CLASSIC 2014 PRELUDE (2) – NOMINATIONS CLOSE TOMORROW
The second Prelude of Classic 2014 will be run next week, with the Heats listed for next Wednesday 29th October. The final then follows on Monday 3rd November. As always prizemoney levels are determined by the number of Heats we run. In Prelude (1) we ran two heats and the heats were $1700 and the Final $4,800.
*Nominations close tomorrow (Friday 24th October) with GRSA at 9.00am.

2014 SA COUNTRY CUP
Below are details of how and where greyhounds can qualify for the $5,000 SA Country Cup Final, to be run at Strathalbyn over 536 metres on Strathalbyn Cup Final night Sunday 16th November 2014. The SA Country Cup will be rotated each year between Gawler and Strathalbyn to be held on each clubs Cup night.

Conditions
·         All South Australian Greyhound Racing Clubs outside of Angle Park will conduct heats, or nominate greyhounds from which the Greyhound Racing SA Grading Department will choose two representatives.
·         The event is open to all South Australian greyhounds that are not above Grade 5 at Angle Park (APK City A & APM City B meetings only) over 515 metres at the time of nomination. Winner of each event takes a penalty including the final.
Special Exceptions:
Mount Gambier and Port Augusta Clubs are allowed to include non-South Australian trainers under strict conditions:
  1. The trainer has had starters at 5 meetings for Pt Augusta and 15 meetings for Mt Gambier in the previous 12 months.
  2. The trainer can only qualify for one of the clubs.
  3. The trainer must have trained the greyhound nominated for the previous 3 months.
·         Graders’ discretion will be used to determine the best nominated.
·         The greyhound must be SA trained (except Mount Gambier & Port Augusta as above).
o   A South Australian trained greyhound is defined as one that has been racing in SA for a period of not less than 3 out of the 6 months immediately prior to the time of nomination.
·         The greyhound must have started at least 2 times in the last 12 months at the track it is attempting to represent.
·         There will be a maximum of two heats per Club with the winners of each heat qualifying. If there is only one heat conducted then the first two placegetters will qualify.
·         The two reserves will be determined firstly by a ballot of the second placegetters from all heats. The third placegetters will then be considered by ballot if required. If a heat was not conducted at the track, then that track is not included in the ballot. Should a greyhound be withdrawn prior to the ballot, the next placed greyhound from that Club’s heat will be selected.
·         Once a greyhound has qualified from a Qualifying Heat, it is not eligible to compete at another track in this series, unless there are insufficient nominations to fill the field.
·         Once qualified for the Country Cup Final the greyhound will be ineligible for the Strathalbyn Cup series as the final is run on the same night as the County Cup.
